Chapter 416
Yvette noticed it too, and she was more than a little annoyed with Gideon. As soon as the ceremony was over, she pulled Gideon aside.
"Gideon, today is our wedding day. Could you please not act like this? Everyone's watching, and you're making it really awkward for me. It's embarrassing for both of us!"
"I get it. Maybe you're still hung up on Calliope, but you saw it yourself Calliope only has eyes for Silas! You can't go against your uncle, and you certainly can't win her back!"
"I'm carrying your child, Gideon. If not for anything else, think about the child I'm carrying. It's your baby! Your first child!"
Yvette took Gideon's hand and placed it on her belly. "Do you feel that? It's in there, your child! It's alive."
She looked at Gideon with hope in her eyes, wishing that the mention of the baby would change something in him.
And it did, at least a little. Gideon's gaze softened when she mentioned the child.
He actually liked kids quite a bit, and knowing Yvette was carrying his made him feel something, if not for her, then for the life growing inside her.
Kids were always adorable. He was kind of looking forward to the little one's arrival.
"I get it." Gideon glanced at Yvette. "I'll play along."
Yvette finally let out a sigh of relief.
"But you need to have a word with your parents, make sure they don't cause a scene."
Gideon frowned and looked over to where her family was gathered.
Yvette's mom and stepdad, along with a bunch of relatives, were there, chattering about who-knows-what They were probably up to no good. They knew there was a wedding, so there was no way to keep them from coming. Even though he'd warned them, it seemed Yvette's family didn't take his words seriously.
"I don't want any drama at the wedding, you understand, right?" Gideon's eyes were serious as he looked at Yvette.
"I know," Yvette said, taking a deep breath. She lifted her wedding dress slightly and hurried over to her family.
Calliope happened to glance up just as Yvette ran over to her family. Turning her head, she locked eyes with Gideon.
Calliope was speechless. She quickly averted her gaze. Gideon's constant glances were making her uncomfortable.
Others noticed too, leading to unnecessary speculation.
Even though Calliope turned away, Gideon walked right up to her.
A bit of bad luck, she thought. There was no time to avoid him, so she just gave Gideon a slight, irritated look.
"Aren't you supposed to be with your bride? What are you doing here?"
"About yesterday, I'm sorry. I had too much to drink," Gideon said to

Calliope. "Don't worry, I'll go through
With
the wedding."
"You don't owe me an apology," Calliope said coolly. "You owe it to yourself."
Gideon paused, taken aback.
"Gideon, sometimes we end up paying for the things we do, so it's wise to think things through."
Calliope shot him a brief look. "And
right now, with everyone around,
speaking to me like this isn't
appropriate. You might not café
about appearances, but I do!
What do you think?
