Chapter 426
Yvette was sobbing uncontrollably as she clung to Fleur.
"Mom, I'm so sorry," she wailed. "I couldn't protect your grandchild! I never wanted this to happen. I didn't know Aunt Calliope would do something so awful out of jealousy!"
"My baby, my baby is gone!"noveldrama
Fleur shot a furious glance at Calliope. Her hand was poised in the air, ready to
slap Calliope, when suddenly a tall figure stepped in.
Silas caught Fleur's wrist mid-air, giving her a cold, hard stare.
"You should go check out the ballroom," he said.
"What for?" Fleur exclaimed in disbelief. "Your precious wife killed my grandchild!
She caused the miscarriage! She pushed her down the stairs!"
Fleur was livid, the sight of Yvette's blood still fresh and glaring in her mind.
Yvette's relatives had started wailing, each one demanding to know why Calliope would be so cruel, why she would do this to Yvette.
Yvette had only just married Gideon, the wedding celebration incomplete, and now this tragedy had struck.
Silas remained silent.
Gideon appeared then, his face grim as he looked at Yvette.
"Gideon, I'm sorry, I couldn't save our child! Don't blame Aunt Calliope, it's my fault, I slipped!"
"It's all my fault, all my fault!" Yvette sobbed.
The guests around them remained silent, their expressions unreadable as they watched Yvette.
Yvette found it strange that no one whispered a word, no murmurs of sympathy reached her ears. Her heart filled with confusion.
Gideon slowly made his way to Yvette. He finally stood in front of her, his eyes boring into hers.
"What are you saying? Who pushed you? How did you fall down the stairs?" Gideon pressed.
"I was careless... It had nothing to do with Aunt Calliope, don't go against her!" Yvette murmured, looking down.
"Is that right? You know it was your carelessness?" Gideon's eyes were as cold as steel. "You couldn't even look after your own child?"
Yvette was taken aback, her plan backfiring before her eyes, panic setting in.
"Gideon... didn't want you to upset
Uncle Silas. Even though Callion pushed me, let's just leave it bet Aunt Calliope will retaliate against us!
"Smack!"
Gideon's slap landed on her face.
Yvette gasped, clutching her stinging cheek, staring at Gideon in shock.
"Gideon, what's wrong with you? Why are you doing this to me?"
It was beyond belief. She was the one who had miscarried! "Don't you know?"
"Why would Aunt Calliope push you? You jumped yourself, don't you know how you tost the baby? Your baby had problems, and instead of dealing with it, you pretended if was a healthy pregnancy to fool us? Yvette, do you think our whole family is stupid, that you could just play us all like fools?"
Gideon sneered, his voice dripping with disdain.
The guests began to murmur, pointing fingers at Yvette in disbelief and judgment.
Yvette finally realized something
was terribly wrong! She was
supposed to be the victim, so why wasn't anyone sympathizing with her? Why was there no one stepping
forward to help her?
What do you think?
