Chapter 457
"If you want to keep it, I'll help you hold onto it." Silas said affectionately, "It's just a house. If they need that land, I'll find them another plot."
He reached out and gently touched her cheek, his eyes radiating warmth and tenderness.
Calliope shook her head. "No, it's fine. Grandpa always said that if they needed it, we should just let them have it. The folks there were always good to us when we lived there.
Now that Grandpa's gone, and I don't visit much anymore. I should honor his wishes. I'm sure it would make him happy. But I need to go back and sort through some things."
Silas nodded. "Whenever you're ready to go, I'll come with you."
Calliope nodded back. "Maybe in a few days. I'd like to make it there before the year ends. I still have some things to wrap up with the Jewell Group and other matters."
As she spoke, something else crossed her mind.
"I need to travel abroad the day after tomorrow."
"Is everything okay?" Silas asked, his brows furrowed slightly.
"One of my patients had some accident and needs my attention," Calliope explained. "I'll be back as soon as the treatment is done, probably in two or three days."
"Alright, is there anything you need me to prepare for you?" Silas looked at her, his deep-set eyes full of deep affection, the kind that could make anyone want to fall for him.
Calliope met his gaze and shook her head.
"They've got everything ready for me."
"That's good. Just be safe while you're traveling." Silas gently ruffled her hair as he gazed at her. "And remember, you have a husband who's just a call away if you need anything, okay?"
His eyes were filled with such tenderness and love.
Calliope smiled, her eyes crinkling at the corners, and leaned into Silas's
embrace. "Will you miss me? If I go abroad, I might think of you."
The more time she spent with Silas, the more she loved being close to him. If she could, she'd stick by his side every moment.
Especially knowing there had once been someone important to him, someone whose fate was uncertain. It made her a little uneasy at times, afraid of losing him. She never dared to ask too much, fearing it might drive him away.
Even though he treated her so well, she sometimes wondered why. Was he this kind to everyone? Or was it just because she reminded him of that woman? Was she just a stand-in for that woman?
But such questions were best left unasked. Asking too much could lead to conflict. Everyone has their past, just like she never talked about having been reborn. Silas didn't know that she had died once.
After dinner, they took a stroll in the backyard and played with Snowy for a while. Million, having been sent to Eamon, had taken quite a liking to him, and the feeling was mutual, so Million stayed with him for the time being.
Calliope petted Snowy's head. Snowy, much like a big cat, rubbed against her palm.noveldrama
Damien and a few others were also in the yard.
Seeing how gentle Snowy was with Calliope was a bit of a marvel.
"The lady of the house, indeed. Snowy never acts this calm around us!"
"Yeah, and we're the ones who feed Snowy every day!"
"Heartless thing!"
The group jokingly grumbled about Snowy.
What do you think?
