Chapter 1921 Playful Teasing and Honest Talks

Emmanuel and Frederick were at a loss for words, and even Mackenzie

thought her sister was being a little too harsh.

“Oh… I’m really leaving now!” Shane, feeling utterly defeated, turned to leave,

looking like a wilted flower.

“But if you continue pursuing me, who knows, I might say yes someday!”

Beatrix teased, a playful smile on her face.

Shane paused mid–step but didn’t dare get too excited this time. “So… is

there a chance?”

“Nope!” Beatrix shook her head again.

Brutal. Absolutely brutal, Everyone else thought. This was probably the

harshest rejection in history.

Shane’s breathing grew heavier, anger bubbling up inside him as he turned

around, fuming.

“But even if I don’t agree to be your girlfriend, I might still give you a chance to

try,” Beatrix added, her playful smile never leaving her face.

“Is that a possibility?” Shane, though devoid of hope, turned once more to ask.

“Nope!” Beatrix shook her head again.

“Argh! That’s it, I’m done with you!” Shane shouted, completely losing it as he

lunged toward her. He was never one to take rejections hard, but this–this

was just cruel.

Luckily, Emmanuel stepped in to hold him back, and Mackenzie also gently

scolded her mischievous sister, reining her in. “That’s enough, Beatrix. Stop

teasing him.”

“But it’s fun!” Beatrix laughed. “He’s leaving soon, and I won’t have the chance

to mess with him again!”

Frederick was at a loss for words. He couldn’t help but wonder if he ever

confessed to her, would she toy with him like this too? Just the thought made

Quintus, too, was relieved Mackenzie wasn’t as merciless as her sister. Sure,

rejection was painful, but at least Mackenzie wasn’t cruel about it.

After the little scene, Emmanuel helped his wife back to their room to rest.

Mackenzie, having just given birth, was understandably exhausted and

quickly fell asleep.

Tia took care of their newborn, allowing Emmanuel to go and check on

Claudette.

“Claudette, he’s here. You two should talk,” Laura said before tactfully leaving

the room as Emmanuel approached.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth had already returned to her studies and left Eastern Star

Mountain earlier.

“How are you feeling?” Emmanuel asked with a gentle smile, keeping a

respectful distance, since it was late and also that Claudette was dressed in

a light nightgown.

“I’m feeling fine physically,” Claudette nodded gently, and the guarded look

she once had toward Emmanuel was no longer there. Sitting on the bed with

her long hair cascading over her shoulders, she still had a youthful glow

despite being in her thirties.

“That’s good to hear,” Emmanuel nodded, momentarily unsure of what to say

next. It was Claudette who broke the silence, her soft eyes watching him as

she asked, “Are you busy? I heard you’re leaving Yeringham tomorrow for

Eldoria.”

“Yes,” Emmanuel confirmed. “I need to find my sister, and if all goes well, I’ll

head straight to Zovince from there.”

“Good luck!” Claudette smiled, looking at him like a fan admiring her hero.

Emmanuel smiled back, finally speaking, “I’m sorry I haven’t been able to help

you recover your memories yet. I haven’t had the time to research it or find

anyone who might help. But after I finish these urgent tasks, I promise I’ll do

my best to help you regain them.”

Claudette nodded slowly, lowering her head for a moment before raising it

again. “But… why are you so determined to help me regain my memories?”

Emmanuel froze, surprised by her question.

“Hehe, just joking,” Claudette stuck out her tongue playfully. “Of course, it’s

better to regain them–people shouldn’t live without their past, right?”

Emmanuel’s smile stiffened, unsure how to respond. In truth, he had started

to wonder if helping her regain her memory was even necessary. Claudette

seemed happy and content with her life now, and maybe she didn’t need to

remember. Besides, if she didn’t regain her memories, it might save

Mackenzie from some emotional conflict.

“Thank you, really,” Claudette said, her smile soft and sincere. “Aunt Laura’s

been telling me about you–how you’re a 5–Star Battle General with many

soldiers under your command. You’re so important, yet you still find time to

visit me. I’m really touched.”
