Chapter 32
ALPHA DEAN CALVERT'S POV
When I was a little boy and my father told me of the witch hunt that our pack was involved with a century ago with the Blackwood pack, I thought he was making it up. I thought they were telling stories to try and get me to behave and act like a true Alpha. Even at a very young age. But as I got older and my wolf finally appeared, I realized that the curse the witch had put on us, it was very real.
Every full moon my wolf goes crazy and tries to hurt the people that I love and sometimes I almost hurt myself.
I can barely remember these nights. Just the pain. It's unbearable.
So, I thought if I left the pack for a while and spent some time in the human community then I might be able to find a way to break the curse.
Well, I didn't find a way to break the curse. But I did meet a woman at a club one night, Marilyn. She was a really pleasant and wonderful woman and we had a lot of fun together.
I decided to stay in Seattle to spend more time with Marilyn after that but it wasn't long before she announced that she was pregnant. It had to have been from that first night that we were together.
Well, that's what I believed at first when she told me. But when I got to thinking about it, I couldn't be too sure who the father of that baby was.
Marilyn didn't really strike me as the shy quiet type who only hooked up with me and no one else in her life.
But I knew that Marilyn wasn't my mate and I decided to leave so I could find my true mate. If it was even possible for me to do that. I had to at least try.
Not long after I left her my Beta's mother Celie, moved moved into the house next door to Marilyn and she was quick to tell me that Marilyn had given birth to my pup.
I didn't believe it at first. I knew that Marilyn wasn't a saint and she was very flirtatious with me and even with other men while she was in front of me. I didn't believe that the child was mine.
So, Celie sent me a photo of the girl, and I couldn't deny it after that. She had a lot of my features, my eyes in particular. They were bluer than mine, but they were definitely mine. Celie told me that her name was Ella.
I knew that she was going to be brought up by humans so I wanted her to have a normal life. Or at least, try to have a normal life that wasn't plagued with werewolves or curses or anything. So I instructed Celie to send Ella monthly financial support. I wanted to provide for my daughter, but I knew that she was happier without me in her life.
I did eventually find my true mate. That would have been the happiest day of my life.
But pretty soon afterwards, she found out about Ella. She knew that I was sending money to her and helping support her but I had never met her.
My mate, Ariel, confronted me with our daughter and was furious that I had a child to another woman.
She wanted me to make a choice. It was either our daughter or my bastard daughter. Not both of them could be the next Alpha of this pack. That honor would always go to the oldest child, and Ariel wanted our daughter to be the Alpha because she grew up in this life knowing about werewolves and she was strong and being trained for it. So I finally agreed to meet Ella and sever all ties with her. I just hadn't gotten around to doing it yet.
I was hosting a meeting in my packhouse when all the influential people of the pack started piling into the conference room.
Once everyone was there we started discussing our latest progress of treating this Alpha mania that occurs every full moon. Everyone was aware of the curse and none of them took it personally when they had to hide on those nights so I didn't kill them. I was doing everything I could to break the curse.
We were brainstorming with everyone in the room when Celie's phone started ringing.
She took it outside to answer it and she returned a couple of minutes later.
"Alpha. That was Ella." Celie told me through the mind link and I turned to look at her intensely. I knew that something had to be wrong if Celie was telling me about
it.
So I excused myself and I left the conference room with Celie.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"Alright. There's a lot that I haven't told you about Ella's life. She's miserable in Alaska. It's horrible there. She's been beaten at school, her mother hates her, treats her like a punching bag, her stepfather grabs what he can whenever he can. I'm not sure how far he's gotten with her, but it's bad enough that she's told me about it. She wants to leave. Right now." Celie explained. And I stood there listening very intently to everything that she was saying.
I thought Ella was thriving in Alaska but there was a lot that Celie wasn't telling me. But I know this woman. There has to be a good reason why she didn't tell me. Probably to keep up Ella's confidence. It had to be something like that.
"When does she want to leave?" I asked.
"She wants to get out of there by the end of the week. She can't stay there a minute longer." Celie told me.
Honestly, even though I told my mate that I would sever all ties with Ella. It had gotten to the point where I didn't think I could live much longer without her. She was a part of me and thanks to Celie, I have gotten to know her over the years. She sounds like a wonderful woman and someone that any parents would be proud of. I can't believe her mother is treating her like that. That's not the woman that I remember.
"Call her back." I instructed. So Celie called Ella back immediately, but I grabbed the phone.
"Hello." Ella answered.
"I will arrange a flight back to Seattle for you. You only need to bring your essential belongings. Nothing more." I instructed.
"Who is this?" Ella asked. Her voice sounds so magical. I couldn't wait to meet her. I knew that she wouldn't let me down. Even if she didn't have her full wolf yet.
"I am your financial supporter. I am very eager to meet you once you get back to Seattle." I announced.
"Okay. I have to get from here to Anchorage to catch a flight." Ella said.
"I'll take care of it. Don't you worry about anything." I assured her. And I hung up.
"Alpha. You need to be prepared. As soon as Ella gets to Seattle it's possible that she will disappear." Celie said. And I turned to look at her curiously. I just told Ella that I was looking forward to meeting her. Why would she disappear.
"Why would you say that?" I asked.noveldrama
“Because Ella is a very resilient girl who hates bothering people. She doesn't like to put people out. I think she probably thinks that asking me for help to get her out of Alaska is asking too much." Celie explained.
"Contact the airline. Tell them to install a tracker in Ella's luggage. I will personally make sure that she makes it home to me." I said.
"And what about the Luna?" Celie asked.
"Don't worry about her. Or Sara. I can't handle them." I said.
"Is Sara still in Alaska?" Celie asked. And I looked at her for a moment, thinking about Ella but realizing that Celie had asked me a question.
"No. She's back here in Seattle. I wasn't going to leave her there. I just wanted her to go to that school for a little while and tell me what she could about Ella."
"Did Sara know that she was a spy for you?" Celie asked.
"No. And she didn't suspect. She changes school's so much that she didn't suspect a thing.” I explained. But I was still thinking about meeting Ella and I think Celie realized that so she left to make all of the arrangements and call the airline so we didn't lose Ella once she got to Seattle. I was finally going to have my whole family with me. It's all I've wanted for so long.
