An Unbreakable Addiction

Billionaire Add 49

"Should we inform Mrs. Jasper in advance?" Sam asked. If they told her ahead of time, she could choose the gown herself, something she would probably prefer

"No need. I'll let her know when the time comes." Hunter was planning on enjoying the spectacle and telling Mia ahead of time would ruin the show.

"By the way, the research lab called earlier. Someone contacted them to buy the latest breakthrough medication at a high price. I looked into the buyer, and It's... Mrs. Jasper." Sam had been debating how to bring this up, and he finally got it out.

Hunter raised an eyebrow. "Doesn't her grandmother's condition receive monthly medical subsidies? If she needs any specific medication, the hospital should be providing it. Why would she need to buy it herself?"

Apparently, this new medication was produced in limited quantities and was highly effective, often selling out quickly. "It seems the hospital may be out of stock and that's likely why Mrs. Jasper is trying to find it on her own," Sam explained, thinking, "Mrs. Jasper would rather spend her own money and go through extra channels than ask Hunter for help. How disappointed she must be in him."

"Have the research lab tell Mia that if she wants the medication, she'll need to come to me." As long as her grandmother was alive, Mia would stay firmly within his grasp. A dark glint flashed in Hunter's eyes as he considered it.

With someone Mia cared about deeply in his hands, he could keep her by his side indefinitely. She would never escape him.

At that moment, even Hunter couldn't pinpoint the exact reason for his possessiveness over Mia. Perhaps it was simply a matter of habit.

Sam had been by Hunter's side long enough to read between the lines. He regretted mentioning Mia's attempts to buy the medication. He should have discreetly helped her obtain it.

Now, Hunter would undoubtedly use this as leverage against her, which seemed entirely unfair to Mia.

"Go investigate the TC project," Hunter ordered, glancing at the report. "Someone dared to make a move right under my nose. I want a full update immediately.

"Understood. I'll look into it now," Sam replied.

"Oh, and have Mia's grandmother's primary doctor come by. I want a complete update on her condition." Hunter needed to understand her situation if he was going to hold the medication over Mia. "Of course, l'Imake the call right away."

Back at the law firm, Mia joined Mandy in preparing documents for the next day's court appearance. Once they finished, she stretched and made her way to the break room.

"Did you hear? Our firm's getting a new boss!" one coworker whispered.

"That's old news! Everyone's heard by now," another chimed in.

"But do you know who the new boss is?"

"Word is it's someone from one of Haven City's Four Prominent Families. Think about it. Who them has an heir that's engaged?"

The Four Prominent Families included the Jaspers, the Fords, the Lloyds, and the Jacksons. Though each family had eligible sons and daughters, only the Ford family had officially announced an engagement between Zac Ford and Xena Smith, Zac had just mentioned recently launching his new law firm, QM Law Firm. It didn't seem likely he would acquire HH Law Firm so soon.

Plus, he knew about her complicated history with the Smith family, especially with Xena. Even if he had bought HH, it was hard to imagine he would bring Xena on board.
