Chapter 72
She raised her head and saw a face that she disliked.
"We will be engaged on the 10th of next month. Jeremy asked me to send you an invitation!" Lindsay said, smiling from ear to ear. She appeared with blushed cheeks, red lips, and a red dress.
Was this how a pregnant woman dress?
"She must have put in a lot of effort to meet me!"
Alicia took the card and replied with a chuckle, "You are making such a big deal out of this. Haven't you learned the lesson from my past?"
Three years ago, her wedding was much grander than Lindsay's! What was there to show off?
"Do you really think everyone is the same as you?" Lindsay sneered and gave her a sarcastic reply. She intentionally touched her belly.
Alicia's heart was churning, but the smile on her face remained.
She replied, "Oh, I almost forgot, he got you pregnant! Is that the reason why he wants to marry you? Then, you should be more careful! Why are you still wearing high heels? Aren't you afraid that he will change his mind at the last minute? He's someone who can miss out on his own wedding. What would he think of this engagement? Ha!"
She shook her head and revealed a smug look on her face.
Lindsay's face turned red on the spot. "Don't curse me! I am not you! Do you really think everyone has a grudge against him like you?"
Lindsay suddenly realized what she had said. She suddenly shut her mouth and bit her lower lip in annoyance.
"What... did you say?"
Alicia was shocked. She wondered, "I have a grudge against him? Did I mishear it?"
"You want to trick me into telling you? I won't! But I can tell you this, Jeremy is a good man, he has never forgotten you. He would still celebrate your birthday by eating cakes and drinking wine. On his birthday, he would drink and stay in a daze! He loves you, but what can he do about it? He won't be with you, nor would he marry you! To him, you are just an item of the past! The only thing you can do is watch the person you love hugging me. All you can do is watch the three of us become a happy family... We will have our happiness!" Linsay responded.
She then turned around and strode away proudly. Alicia did not come back to her senses even after a long time.
Apparently, there was a reason!
She had even thought that there was some misunderstanding between their two families!
But, how could it be possible?
He came back from abroad. Her family had always been doing business in Bayton City. It was not a big business, but it could not be considered small either. Her father was also kind to people and had never offended anyone. Among the people he dealt with, none of them had the surname Pitcher!
Her college life went smoothly too. She could not recall anything out of the ordinary happening!
What kind of hatred was so deep that it took him so many years of planning?
These disturbing thoughts bugged her, and Alicia could not calm down at all.
When Victoria Altas met Alicia, it was already late at night. Alicia was standing at the end of a bridge in a daze. She was alone, and she was still holding the invitation card.
"I knew that you were only pretending when you said that you did not care! You have not eaten yet, right?" Victoria said.
She walked forward and handed Alicia a hamburger. "Eat this! It's inconvenient for me to bring anything else!"
Alicia turned around, and her eyes were wet with tears. She hugged Victoria and cried loudly, "Vicki- "
"Alright, alright, that's enough! What happened to the arrogant and conceited Miss Blanchard? Who was the one who said that all men in the world were the same?"
Victoria patted her back. She did not know how to comfort her. In fact, ever since they had met each other, she looked up to Alicia. Of course, she did not know that it was also the same for Alicia.
After Alicia vented her unhappiness, Victoria gave her another piece of tissue. Only then did Victoria know that Jeremy was going to marry Lindsay. He
even had a complicated relationship with Lindsay.
"Trash should be put together! These two are perfect for each other! They are both shameless! Ally, how did he pursue you back then? It wasn't just me, but everyone in school witnessed it too! You don't even know what happened, how could we outsiders understand it?" Victoria said.
She sighed and actually felt very sad for Alicia. Back then, Alicia was so elegant, gorgeous, and confident. She even had a good family background. The number of men who wanted her was so
plentiful that they could line up and circle around the whole city twice. But, she kept a low profile at present and had changed a lot.
She continued, "We all thought that he had fallen in love with you at first sight! It's such a pity. You have even done so much for him! But it is understandable, a lot of people were envious of you guys. Lindsay was jealous, and she wanted to replace you! It's a good thing that we know about her true nature earlier, right? Why do you feel sad for such people? I was hesitant in telling you when I first heard the news. I was afraid that you would regret it in the future!"
"Once they get married, love is not a reason anymore! However, I did not expect them to have a child already! Had I known about it earlier, I did not have to say anything else! Children are a burden. Are you going to be their child's stepmother?" she said.
Victoria's words were like a slap on Alicia's face. Her eyes got even wetter. She then told Victoria about
Frederick, but she replaced his name with "Uncle".
She did not tell her who he was.
Victoria's eyes widened on the spot. When she realized that Alicia did not continue speaking, she also did not ask further. She only shook her head.
"You are already married? Then, why are you worried about this?"
"I have loved him for three years, and I have waited for him for three years too! Vicki, to tell you the truth, no matter how unrestrained I am, no matter how much he hurt me, I know that it is bad for me to not be able to forget him! However, sometimes, love is not something that one can forget immediately! I also know that there are too many barriers between us, and it is impossible for us to
work it out. But, I really have to find an answer! Maybe I have put too much effort into this, and I am reluctant to give up! Do you think that there's a problem with me?" Alicia asked.
Victoria said, "Since you know that there is something wrong with you, then it is not that serious yet!"
Victoria tapped her forehead and stuffed the hamburger in Alicia's hand.
"You will have more energy to be sad after you eat this! Actually, you don't have to force yourself. Maybe, you will meet another Jeremy one day. By then, you will naturally let him go! I think that your resistance and obsession are the real reason why you can't let him go! Since you have decided to forget about him, then you should understand that there are no more connections between you two!" Victoria raised her foot and kicked the bottle on the ground with all her might. This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.
"After listening to your words, even I feel bad for you! This man is a sc*mbag! If I were you, to h*ll with his reasons, I would stab him with a knife for toying with my feelings! I don't care about any grievances, he is wrong for treating you like this! There's nothing wrong with your relationship... Ally, think about these three years, how did you go through it? Didn't you make it through? Just do it again, there are plenty of three years in your life. There will be a day when you truly forget about him, and you will find your Mr. Right! Maybe, you can even find a man better than him right now! By the way, The Four Great Masters of Casterwich City are all better than him. Some of them look good too. Do you want me to investigate them for you?"
Alicia rolled her eyes. Victoria was definitely something. "No, no! I have my own goals!"
Was she trying to scare her to death?
At this time, her cell phone rang. "He is urging me to go back! He has a bad temper. I can't afford to offend him. I have to go!"
Was he in his fifties already?
How old was he? Why did she find someone like that? Victoria couldn't understand Alicia.
These things suddenly popped up in Victoria's mind, and she felt even more distressed for Alicia. She was afraid that Alicia would be sad, thus, she did not probe further.
