Chapter 1385 Wage Slave
"You contributed so much, only for him to take everything from you just like that?"
Having followed Laura for several years, the subordinates expressed their dissatisfaction rather vehemently.
Upon hearing this, Laura responded sternly, "Such words should not be spoken again in the future."
Yet, the more she defended Josie, the louder the rumors within the corporation became. They labeled Laura as a pushover. Gradually, Josie was portrayed as a nepotistic tyrant who parachuted into the company.
Subordinates entering the office to report would also cast peculiar glances at Josie.
Seeing that the situation couldn't continue like this, Laura took the initiative and said, "The last project concluded flawlessly. Hector sees potential in you and has asked me several times about having you in the commerce department. What are your thoughts on this?"
Josie was rather indifferent. "Either way is fine. You arrange as you see fit."
It didn't take long before Josie was swiftly transferred to the commerce department, serving in a minor clerical role.
On her first day at work, Hector dumped a pile of files on her desk. "Ms. Warren... No. Josie, I need you to finish these today, please."
"Sure. All right."
It seemed Josie had become a wage slave.
While Josie was sorting out the documents, she noticed that, in recent years, Laura clearly wanted to modernize the business. Many of her business dealings were leaning toward artificial intelligence and renewable energy, veering away from the traditional real estate. The era of the bubble economy was clearly behind them.
Night had already fallen when the last colleague in the department clocked out. Seeing Josie still engrossed in her work at the computer, the person let out a sigh and asked, "Still not done, huh?" Glancing at the documents on the table, Josie didn't mention that she had already finished them. Instead, she chuckled lightly. "Almost done."
"Mr. Leigh is just like that. I guess he didn't benefit from the Eccentric Corporation project, so he's deliberately making life difficult for you." Josie nodded, noticing this person was quite amicable. "What's your name?" she asked.
"Queenie Deblois. I know you. Your name is Josie Warren," Queenie Deblois said.
Closing her laptop, Josie asked, "Where do you live? I drove here. Let me give you a ride."
Queenie was somewhat taken aback, but as a wage slave, the last thing she could refuse was a free ride.
Throughout the journey, she was
very polite, not prying too much into Josie's personal life. Instead, she
shared her wisdom and said, Yog
did right by not competing with Hector. He's a vindictive person. Who knows how much trouble he could cause you in the future?"
Josie curved her lips. "You seem to know him well. How long have you been working here?"Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Queenie counted on her fingers. "It's been almost three years. When I started working here, Hector was just a junior staff member. Now, he's the general manager, and I'm still a wage slave." "Why?"
"It's hard to say..." Queenie revealed an ambiguous expression. "You could say he knows how to handle things."
"It's been three years without a promotion. Why haven't you left?"
"The benefits are great. If I were to leave Olsen Group, I wouldn't be able to find a better company than this one." Queenie sighed before adding, "However, the market has been rough these past couple of years, and they've had to cut back on our salaries quite a bit."
Josie looked up. "Is that so?"
Queenie realized she had said too much. "I can only speak for myself. I don't know about others."
Without asking further, Josie dropped Queenie home and promptly left.
Josie's thoughts were in disarray. For a moment, she drove aimlessly, unsure of where to go. Eventually, her heart stirred, and she found herself heading toward the back door of that hotel.
She didn't pay much attention during
her last visit. But this time, she
noticed a long, expansive river across the street. The other side of
the river was shrouded in darkness, an area untouched and
undeveloped.
Josie picked up a few small pebbles, her heart beating unusually fast. Is Dexter able to see me? Is he even still here?
