Chapter 41 Surgery
Chapter 41 Surgery
Alexia hadn’t yet calmed down from the flurry of activity she just experienced when she suddenly heard him ask, her face showing nothing but doubt. "Why what?"
Chaim grunted coldly and turned to Alexia, grabbing her arm roughly. "Who told you to wear that necklace? Eve is being sent to trauma. Are you satisfied now?"
"What do you mean? Why are you asking if I’m satisfied?" Alexia asked, eyes growing wide, becoming exasperated by his words.
Chaim was making it sound like Alexia was desperate for Evelyn to be in danger.
"Alexia, before you came in to see Eve, did I not tell you, you weren’t allowed to divulge a single word about our relationship to Eve?" Chaim let go of Alexia like he was disgusted by just touching her.
Alexia took a step away from him and her back hit the wall, causing her to stifle a grunt in pain. "You said that, but I said nothing to her about us!"
"What about the necklace? Who told you, you could wear that necklace when you went out?" Chaim's thin lips pursed into a straight line.
Chaim's remarks stunned Alexia, and it took her a moment to find her voice. "You're blaming me? So, just because I wore this necklace and Ms. Chi saw me, you think you can blame me for Ms. Chi passing out?"
Chaim took a deep breath without answering, but the meaning was clear enough. He was blaming her regardless!
Alexia was completely enraged and cried. "If anything, you’re the one to blame! When you first gave me the necklace, you didn't tell me it was originally for Ms. Chi. You still hadn’t said anything, even
though I've been wearing the necklace every day since! However, now that Ms. Chi has pointed it out you're blaming me! Don't you think you're being unfair?"
Alexia’s shoulders sagged, and large tears rolled down her cheeks. Soon her make-up had run all over her face, especially underneath her eyes, making them look pitiful and comical.
"Come on, stop crying!" Chaim pinched the bridge of his nose and gave her a disgusted look.
Her crying was not only noisy, but it also made his heart inexplicably seize up with her’s. Alexia’s uncontrollable emotion was getting on his nerves!
Alexia sniffled and slowly stopped crying. "Here, take this back!" She slapped the necklace into his hands.
"Alexia, what are you doing?" Chaim looked at the necklace, finally noticing the broken chain, and his eyes deepened.
Alexia raised her arm and casually wiped a tear from her eyes with her sleeve. "I’m returning the necklace to its rightful owner. I certainly don’t want it anymore.!"
"Returning it to its rightful owner?" Chaim frowned.
Alexia nodded, still choking on the occasional sobs. "Isn't this the necklace you were going to give to Ms. Chi? Why would you ever give it to me then? You'd better give it to Ms. Chi."
"I can’t!" Chaim tried to give the necklace back to her with an expressionless face. "It’s yours now. No one else has worn it, and Eve won’t want it anymore."
"And you think I still want it?" Alexia glared up at him. "You just said that Ms. Chi, won’t wear what others have worn and so she won’t want it again. Well, neither do I."
She wasn’t sure why Chaim thought she’d still want the necklace after discovering its original purpose. She only knew how happy she was to receive the necklace then and how unhappy she felt now.
"Throw it away if you don't want it!" Chaim spat unhappily, seeing Alexia’s uncouth anger toward the necklace.
Alexia was clenching her fists so hard they shook. "Throw it away?"
"You don't want it, so why keep it? Just throw it away." Chaim returned indifferently, straightening his cuffs.
"But..." Alexia hesitated.
She definitely didn’t want the necklace. However, the idea of throwing away something so expensive upset her. She knew better than to throw away such a large sum of money.
"But what?" Chaim asked, lifting his eyes to her ever so slightly.
Alexia shook her head. "I can’t throw away something worth so much. I’ll just have Aunt Song put it away in the back of a closet. Then, if Ms. Chi asks, you can give it to her."
"Whatever you want!" Chaim handed her the necklace and turned toward the door to leave.
"Wait!" Alexia called out to him.
Chaim stopped and turned back to her. "What else do you want?"
"There's a problem." Alexia clasped her hands together nervously.
"What problem?"
"About you and Ms. Chi." Alexia took a deep breath and mustered up the courage to speak. "Chaim, are you planning to get back together with her?"
Chaim stared at Alexia in shock, trying to feign innocence. "I don’t know what you're talking about."
"I know about your relationship." Alexia bit her lower lip. "I’ve been thinking about this for a long time and it’s been weighing on my heart from the moment I found out that you and Ms. Chi used to date. Since then, I've always wanted to ask you, Chaim tell me, are you..."
"Who told you that?" Chaim interrupted her with a gloomy expression.
Alexia blinked. "What?"
"Who told you about the relationship Eve and I once had?" Chaim repeated, the cold air around his body chilling the air.
"Aunt Song."
"What else did she say to you?"
"Nothing. Aunt Song confirmed you had been together, she said nothing else." Alexia answered truthfully.
Chaim's face softened some, but it was still cold. "Alexia, I hope you won't go prying into my past next time. Do you understand?"
Hearing the warning in his words, Alexia nodded slightingly. "I won’t. But I still want to know if you ever intend to get back with Ms. Ch—"
"No!" Chaim pursed his lips in response.
Alexia revealed a surprised smile. "Are you telling the truth? You really aren’t going to?"
Chaim looked at her eyes, full of expectations and lacking any impurities. So his heart softened against his will. She must’ve bewitched him! How could there be any cuteness in such a plain, average-looking woman! Her face was even still as dirty as a flowered cat.
Chaim shook his head, pushed down the strange emotions, and was about to say something when Nathaniel came back.
"You're really still here!"
Nathaniel's appearance interrupted Chaim. Although Alexia was a little disappointed not to receive a confirmed answer, she was already content. At least she’d heard Chaim clearly.
"Why are you here?" Chaim glanced disgustedly at the smiling Alexia and turned his gaze to Nathaniel, his face serious. "Is Eve alright?"
"She’s stabilized for the time being, but..." Nathaniel hesitated.
Chaim impatiently prodded. "What? But what?"
"Calm down." Nathaniel pushed up his glasses. "Evelyn's condition is indeed stable, but her white blood cells are no longer under control. She needs the surgery now, as long as that’s okay."
While he was addressing the two people in front of him, his eyes were solely on Alexia. This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.
Alexia's expression froze. "Now?"
"Yes." Nathaniel nodded.
Alexia pursed her lips and then forced a smile. "I have no problem ..."
"Then What are you waiting for!" Chaim shouted, hammering the point home.
"Good. Then I will arrange the preparations for the surgery now. Sister, please go back to your room and change into your surgical gown." Nathaniel mentioned.
Alexia gave a small nod.
After Nathaniel left, Chaim glanced at her sideways, "I'll accompany you up."
"No need." Alexia waved him away in refusal. "You go wait for Ms. Chi outside the operating room. I know you’re worried about her and would feel better waiting for her. I was the one who called you back. So go now and I’ll head back to my room by myself."
Having said that, she walked past him with her head down. Before she could take more than two steps, Chaim grabbed her hand.
