Capture Her Heart After Marriage

Chapter 9 Five Million

Chapter 9 Five Million

Without waiting for Alexia to turn around, Chaim grabbed her and hugged her into his arm.

Alexia looked up to meet Chaim’s stern face in surprise.

“Why are you here?”

“I met your mother at the hospital. She told me you ran after a thief.”

Chaim’s tone was indifferent, but his calm gaze fell on her. After ensuring she was not injured, he turned to Joseph, reaching out his hand. “Nice to meet you, I’m Aily’s husband. Thank you for helping my wife.”

“Husband?” Joseph turned to Alexia in surprise. “Ms. White, are you married?”

He thought Alexia was a fresh graduate, but she was actually married.

“Mr. Swift, I’ve been married for three years.”

Alexia showed him the wedding ring as her heart fluttered. This was the first time she heard Chaim admit their relationship.

“Excuse me, we have other urgent things. If you need compensation, we can talk later.”

Chaim nodded, gave Joseph his business card, and led Alexia to the car.

“You… how did you know I’m here?” Alexia asked cautiously when she entered the car.

“A passer-by has seen you.” Chaim replied coldly with an expressionless face.

“Oh, I see…”

Alexia lowered her head disappointedly, savoring the remaining warmth from Chaim’s palm on her shoulder. She hoped he would be very nervous about her. However, as expected, she was only flattering herself.

Chaim started the car and asked again, “Your mother told me something. Did you run out of cash now?”

In order to get the money back, she ran after the thief without considering personal safety. Fortunately, Joseph was there to help her.

Chaim didn’t want to imagine what would happen if Alexia faced the thief alone, or the thief carried a weapon.

Alexia lowered her head without words.

The air in the car was painfully silent. After a long moment, Chaim said, “If you really need money, you can ask me.”

“No, I don’t need your money.”

Alexia quickly refused, much to Chaim’s surprise.

Although she really needed money, Alexia didn’t need others’ help. Especially Chaim’s.

Alexia married Chaim only for the love she had hidden for years, not for his money.

“I thought you needed it and that’s why you chased the thief.”

Chaim’s face darkened. Nobody had ever rejected him so simply and quickly.

“I need to meet up with my mom. Can you drop me off there?”

The police delayed Alexia for so long; she didn’t know if her mother would wait at the hospital or not. Maybe she had gone home long ago.

“OK.”

Chaim turned around and drove toward Mrs. White’s neighborhood. He parked the car outside Mrs. White’s house and, out of politeness, he followed Alexia.

Alexia gripped her bag. Even though Chaim and Alexia were married for three years, it was the first time Chaim was visiting her family.

“It doesn’t look like anyone’s home.” Chaim said.

“Let me check.”

Alexia blushed and hurried toward the front door, not wanting to see his expression.

Alexia pushed the door and found it was unlocked. Worried, she called out, “Mom, are you back?”

“What took you so long? Do you not care about your brother? Did you recover the money? Show me!”

Mrs. White entered the entry hall from the living room and snatched Alexia’s bag, not noticing Chaim walking up the front steps.

“Is this it?” She took out all money in the bag and counted it as her face darkened. “Do you really think this measly amount will help! You really don’t care about your brother after all!”

“Mom, this is all my money. What’s going on with Charlie? Won’t this help appease the other driver?”

Mrs. White rolled her eyes. “You foolish girl. Charlie didn’t crash into another car at all. He lost about one million because of stocks, but I couldn’t really say that in front of all those people, could I?”

“Aily, ask Chaim Lancaster for money. You’re married; his money is naturally yours!”

“Mom!”

Alexia’s face turned pale. She knew her mother was crass, but she never thought her mother would be so forward with her thoughts. Then Alexia remembered Chaim. ‘Oh no! Chaim must have heard it!’

Alexia looked back in panic, wishing to close the door immediately. What would he think of her family?

“One million, right?”

Chaim’s distinctive deep voice came from the front porch before he stepped inside and stood next to Alexia. He calmly glanced at Alexia before turning his attention to Mrs. White.

Alexia lowered her head, embarrassed. She wanted to explain it was just a misunderstanding and her mother really didn’t mean what she said, but… if she couldn’t come up with one million, how could she help her brother? Was there any other way except for asking for Chaim’s help?

“Oh, you’ve come over too, Chaim? Aily, why didn’t you tell me earlier?”

Mrs. White smiled warmly again and reached out to invite Chaim, “Chaim, come in and sit—” NôvelDrama.Org content.

“No need for that, Auntie.”

He declined appropriately, then took out his phone and called his assistant, Wood Chiao.

“Wood, prepare a check for five million and bring it to me.”
