Chapter 19. Spending The Time
Brenton was sleeping, I was reading on the chair by his side when his parents arrived. Hellen was by my side in no time hugging me.
“Hey Nicolette, thank you for waiting on Brenton. You could leave now if you want to freshen up and rest?” She asked me politely.
“Mm… I’m actually thinking of spending the night here. But if you want privacy, I can get back in the morning?” I was a bit disappointed. But I didn’t want to take the time they had with Brenton. They sure looked like busy people.
“Nonsense darling, stay if you want. I just thought you might be exhausted. But if you want to stay, come and let us have some dinner and coffee. I already packed some for us. Let’s sit on the couch.” I put my book down, and kissed Brent, and followed her to the couch.
She brought sandwiches and coffee, but she said they’ve already eaten on their way here. But she set up the coffee for all of us. And let me ate my sandwich in peace, while she got to Brenton’s side and sit with him for a while.
I could see her love for him when she brushed her hand to his hair softly. Making me remembered my own mom, suddenly I felt that I missed my parents a whole lot. I had not think about them since my issues with Collin. Now, it all came back to me and it hit me hard. My tears started to fall. Patrick saw me and he looked concerned. He gave me his handkerchief and rubbed my back lovingly.NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.
“I’m so sorry. I just suddenly miss my own parents. Would you excuse me for a moment? I’m just going to freshen up.” I walked quickly to the public bathroom outside, because I didn’t want to use the private one in the room.
I quickly pulled down the toilet seat cover and sat down, I started hugging myself sobbing.
Fuck! Stay strong Nicolette. You can do this. Brenton would want you to be strong.
I missed mom and dad, how they would hug me, and loved me. It still hard for me to accept their death up to today.
Somewhere inside my mind I always thought their marriage was what drives my relationship forward with Collin. I craved stability after they were gone, and Collin offered that.
Damn it! Maybe I should go home and rest.
I didn’t think I could handle seeing them all together. I was so jealous. Maybe I was just tired. Yes, I definitely need to go home now.
I was going to say goodbye to them, and let them spend more time with Brenton when I heard people argued. I could see Brenton was awake, and joining in on the heated conversation. There was this voluptuous beautiful red-haired woman, holding his hand crying.
What the fuck!
That was when he saw me, and she was looking at me glaring. He quickly clawed off her hand from his. Hellen looked at me, and Patrick was coming my way. I finally get myself moving and entered the room.
“Patrick, Hellen I think I’m going to get that rest now.” I gave them a tight hug and whispered to them. “Please take good care of Brenton, I know he still loves you both, as I know you still do too.”
“Goodnight Brenton, get well soon.” I nodded to his direction and the red hair. Then I dashed out of the room quickly as my vision became blurry, and my tears stinging my eyes.
I quickly got in the taxi and get back home. I slid down to the kitchen floor, drinking my wine.
I can do this. I can do this. I can do this.
I kept on chanting the words myself. I gulped down the rest of the wine in the glass and poured myself another one.
I already turned off my phone. I just needed to be left alone.
I can do this. I can do this. I can do this.
Then there was a knock at the door.
Shit.
“Be right there!” I called out to the door. Drank down the rest of the wine, and wobbly got up and got to the door. I peeked from the window seeing Hellen? What could she be doing here, shit! Did anything happen to Brenton? I was suddenly sober from my wine.
“Hellen did something… Brenton is he okay? Tell me he’s okay?” I started crying and she smiled and hugged me.
“He’s okay my dear, he’s sleeping when I left him with Patrick. Ssh… it’s okay. Brenton told me to check on you since he couldn’t get through to your phone. He gave me the address, I hope you don’t mind?” I shake my head and let her inside.
“He’s worried about you. I know that he loves you, Nicolette.” She rubbed my arm.
“The red-haired woman is Marcie, she was his ex. I always hated her.” She laughed.
“Thank god, he ditched her. But apparently, she still wants him. See now Nicolette, I’m going to tell you the whole story okay? But why don’t I make us coffee first?” She asked me, trying to take care of me. I missed this kind of motherly affection.
Then she told me all about the gold-digging ex-girlfriend Marcie. I finally relaxed. “Thank you for this Hellen, I just thought… he, I mean, I just love him too much to doubt him. So when I see her, I just left. I couldn’t handle it. Sometimes I feel like I’m always running away from something.” I tried to explain myself to her.
“Oh honey, it’s okay. You’re still young. You’re bound to make mistakes. Next time just make sure you don’t run away dear. If you love someone, then you should fight for your love. I know I did.” She winked at me making me laughed.
“So, you want to get back to Brenton or you still want to rest?” She asked tidying up my kitchen.
“I’ll go get changed and grab some stuff for the hospital. I’m going to stand by my man.” I hugged her tightly.
We arrived at the hospital and Brenton was relieved to see me and gave me his best smile. His parents went back home after I thanked them both.
“Thank you for coming back, Nicolette. I love you.” He holds my hand and kissed my palm.
