Chapter 1071
Chloe just stared, at a complete loss for words.
She didn't even have to ask-one look at her mentor and she knew exactly what was going on in his head.
Here we go again, she thought. He was probably already trying to figure out how to sneak that fancy sofa out and sell it for some extra cash.
She couldn't help but nudge him back to reality. "Master, can we please focus? We're here for a reason."
Nemo snapped to attention, sitting up straight. His whole vibe shifted, suddenly all business.
He looked straight at Jeffery. "Are you really saying you didn't kill the thirty- something members of the Grevenberg family?"
Jeffery's expression was just as serious. "You drugged me, dumped me on some abandoned fishing boat, and left. Not long after, a fisherman found me. He helped me wake up, and as soon as I could, I rushed to the Grevenberg estate. But when
I got there, the whole place was on fire. There were bodies everywhere."noveldrama
He locked eyes with Nemo. "I always thought you finished the job for me."
Nemo let out a heavy sigh. "That night, I was planning to do it-take care of the Grevenberg family for you-but I got ambushed by Black Crow. Took me longer than I thought to get rid of him. By the time I made it to the estate, everything was already up in flames. And in the middle of the chaos, I saw you."
For a moment, the truth settled between them-finally clear after all these years.
Silence stretched out, heavy and long.
Kash was the first to break it. "If neither of you did it, then who wiped out the Grevenberg family?"
Nemo shook his head. "No idea. We were just following orders-we never knew who our client was. For all we know, they could've hired other hitmen just in case."
Jeffery spoke up again. "There was one survivor-a child. Did you know about him?"
"I did," Nemo said quietly. "I'm the one who saved him from the fire."
Everyone turned to stare at him in shock.
"He was hiding behind a fake rock in the garden. When I found him, he was terrified-completely out of it. considered killing him, just to tie up loose ends, but when I looked into his eyes, I couldn't do it. Plus counted the bodies-there were thirty-eight, exactly as expected. So I figured maybe he wasn't really part of the Grevenberg family. In the end, I took him with me."
"The kid got really sick after that. When he finally woke up, he didn't remember anything. I dropped him off at an orphanage. What happened to him after that, I have no idea.”
Nemo let out a deep sigh. "I guess that's where all this trouble started. Everything happening now goes back to that kid."
"Wait," someone asked, voice low. "Is that kid... Grant's father?"
Nemo nodded. "Most likely. I'm not sure if Grant is really his son, but..."
Nemo's gaze flickered to Connor, lingering just a second before he sighed again. "What a mess."
Jeffery looked weighed down by old memories, his eyes darkening.
To Chloe, it felt like they were speaking a language only the two of them understood, as if there were secrets in the room no one else could touch.
But she pressed on. "If you had nothing to do with the Ballard family massacre, you need to tell Grant.
He's spent his whole life chasin et
revenge against the Sartori family-he deserves to know he's been blaming the wrong people." Cóntent
Kash added, "The only problem is, will he even believe us? He might just think we
made all this up to cover ourselves."
What do you think?
