Echoes Of a Forsaken Heart

Chapter 58

Chapter 58

Natalia was utterly baffled by the man’s sudden attitude. Instinctively, she sensed his anger boiling beneath the surface. She didn’t approach him, just stood by the edge of the bed..

“We can talk like this,” she said. Hamilton’s eyes narrowed sharply as he reached out and yanked Natalia’s wrist, pulling her towards him.

With hardly any strength to resist, Natalia stumbled and crashed onto his chest. Hamilton’s arms wrapped tightly around her waist, spinning her around and pinning her against the windowsill.

“Who did you see?” His voice was icy enough to frost over.

Pressed against the windowsill, Natalia winced in discomfort, struggling reflexively.

Hamilton’s expression darkened with her every move.

He tightened his grip, making Natalia feel as if her back was against the blunt edge of a knife.

“I'm asking you, which guy did you meet with?”

“It hurts, Hamilton!”

Hamilton let out a mocking laugh. “Sorry about that.”

Tears welled up in Natalia’s eyes as her lips trembled slightly. “Hamilton, are you out of your mind?” “I'm out of my mind? Or are you being ungrateful?” His words were clenched with frustration.

“| don’t know what you mean. | just had a meal with Lionel, that’s all! Am | not even allowed to have a meal with someone else now?”

Her relationship with Lionel was as transparent as day. Yet, Hamilton irrationally fumed over him time and time again.

As for his own dealings with Eveleen, their lack of innocence was common knowledge, yet he paraded her around Natalia without a care in the world.

Hamilton's scoff was cut by a sudden release of his hold. Natalia coughed violently, gasping for air. Hamilton watched coldly as she struggled to breathe. Only when she finally stopped did he speak indifferently.

“Even in your condition, you had to go out for a meal? How important is this Lionel to you? Do you even remember who you are?”

Natalia’s cheeks were flushed from the coughing. She looked up with reddened eyes and managed a bitter smile.

“| don’t need you to keep reminding me of my status. I’m very clear I'm your mistress, aren’t 1?”

Hamilton sneered. “If you're so clear, then Ms. Jenkins, you better make things clear with those other men. Don’t spend one day chatting with one and the next having lunch with another. Do you really think | have infinite patience?”

Natalia’s lips quivered. “I just sought Lionel’s advice on the termination agreement. Didn't you say | could take it to court, Mr. Fowler?”

“Is that really all you discussed?” Hamilton obviously didn’t believe her; his eyes still held a chilling skepticism. “Yes, just the termination agreement.”

Of course, Lionel's international case also came up, but Natalia saw no need to explain that to Hamilton. Hamilton huffed. “With so many lawyers out there, why did you have to seek Lionel?”

“Because he’s the only lawyer | know!” Natalia laughed. “We're just friends! Don’t you trust me, Mr. Fowler?”

Hamilton's laughter was hollow. “Whether | trust you or not isn’t the point. The point is, Ms. Jenkins, what exactly did you do today?”

Natalia’s brow furrowed. What had she done? She had merely shared a meal with Lionel, nothing more.

Suddenly, Natalia recalled the moment she felt dizzy upon standing up from their meal, and Lionel had steadied her. That was the full extent of their physical contact today.

But she couldn't believe that Hamilton would suspect anything untoward from that brief touch. Her face paled as she faced Hamilton. “Are you having me followed, Mr. Fowler?”

Hamilton's laughter was cold. “Rest assured, Ms. Jenkins, | don’t have that much idle time. But from now on, | think it’s best to have someone keep an eye on you. Otherwise, | might be cuckolded without even knowing It!”

Natalia’s lips whitened as she glared at Hamilton. “What are you Implying?”

Hamilton glanced at her and tossed his phone onto the table in front of her. “See for yourself, Ms. Jenkins.”

She picked up the phone, unlocked the screen, and saw a photo.

In the picture, not only was there the moment when Lionel supported her but also several misleading snapshots.

In the afternoon light of the restaurant, a woman sat by the window with a serene smile while the man opposite her seemed on the verge of a kiss.

Beyond that photo, there were more, all captured from cunning angles. Natalia’s fingers trembled. She tapped the photo, curious to see who sent it.

Upon opening it, she was surprised to find that it was from Victor, sent in a group chat-a group filled with Hamilton’s fair—weather friends.

Her finger scrolled down involuntarily. Then, she saw the message from Victor

A buzzing filled Natalia’s head.

Her lips quivered as she looked at Hamilton. “The photos are all misleading. If you don’t believe me, you can check the restaurant’s security footage. Lionel and | are just friends. As for the child...

Tears streamed down her face unexpectedly. “Do you suspect the child isn’t yours, Mr. Fowler?”

Hamilton's profile was a mask of icy resolve. He turned to look at Natalia, his gaze steely and piercing as he spoke, his words cutting through the air and stabbing straight into Natalia’s heart.

“That’s a question for you, isn’t it?”

Natalia felt as if she could literally hear the sound of her heart shattering into pieces.

With pain clenching her insides, she mustered the strength to ask again, “So, you're really doubting whether that child is yours?” Hamilton fixed his eyes on her. “What’s the matter? Feeling guilty?”

Tears trickled down Natalia’s cheeks, relentless in their descent.

It seemed like an eternity before she managed to speak. “Hamilton Fowler, | have never been with another man besides you!” Finally, Hamilton's expression softened slightly. “Good. | hope you will continue this way.”

Natalia fought back her tears and managed a smile. “Sure, Mr. Fowler, you can count on me. Is there anything else? If not, you can leave; I’d like some rest,”

“There is actually one more thing.”

Natalia took a deep breath, her fingers digging into her palms to keep herself composed. “What is it, Mr. Fowler? Just say it.” Hamilton glanced at Natalia, then abruptly pulled her into the bathroom.

The shower came on suddenly, drenching her without warning.

Hamilton simply stood aside, watching.

“Sorry, I’m a bit of a clean freak. Anywhere that Lionel has touched... I'd appreciate it if you could wash it off yourself!”
