My husband, how is he?
There is a red lump on Celino Mondragon’s inner thigh and just as she expected, there are traces of a poisonous needle on his body. But that was only a small percentage and the symptoms were still in the early stages so it was not like Jobert’s wife who was being decomposed alive. She was sure the old man had just been poisoned, about thirty minutes before she entered the room. She fed him a pill that cured Jobert’s people.
She dressed the old man and looked around. The corner of her lips twitched as she approached the ceiling-to-floor curtain. She removed it and let the sunlight enter the room.
“Uhh,” said the old man with his eyes closed.
Jenica watched as the old man slowly regained consciousness. The smell of the hallucinogenic herb was completely gone so his trance returned.
“Uhh! Mmm!”
The old man quickly covered himself to avoid the sunlight. Jenica stood up and approached the bed. She removed the blanket and exposed the trembling old man.
His sharp gaze turned to her and in an instant he suddenly jumped in her direction and raised his long claws to scratch her. Jenica frowned and avoided the old man. She hit his nape and caught him as he dropped from the air.
“Too troublesome,” she whispered when he kicked her before she could catch the old man. Jenica quickly defended as the old man fell to the floor. He gasped suddenly.
Jenica frowned and attended to the old man. She hit his acupoints to stop it from moving and thrashed around. The old man was not in his right mind and it seems that the harmful substance damaged his cognitive ability causing him to act according to his natural instinct to attack the person who opened the curtain.
“Hey, don’t you think you should compensate me for trying to kill me?” she then fed the old man a pill. “Rest first. When you wake up, you’ll be fine, Mr. Mondragon.”
Just then, she carried the old man back to the bed. Suddenly the door opened and Gray entered. “Don’t hurt my father, Doctor Acinea!” he shouted, voice full of anger.
Jenica frowned at the sleeping old man and turned to the newcomer. Gray was followed by his wife Samantha and some maids. There were also two butlers behind them.
Jenica raised her eyebrows and folded her arms. “What’s the meaning of this, Mr. Grey?” she asked.
Gray motioned to the maid in the back. The maid quickly approached Jenica and gave her a phone. She accepted it and watched the CCTV footage where the old man jumped on her direction and she hit him on the back of the head.
“I thought you’re an excellent doctor. You disappoint me, Doctor Acinea!” Gray yelled, his face was reddish due to suppressed rage.
Jenica returned the phone to the maid and secretly looked around the room. There above, firmly planted in the corner of the ceiling, was a small camera. Sh*t. She miscalculated everything! She didn’t notice anyone watching her earlier.
Jenica, you’re being careless!
Sighing, she closed her eyes for a moment. “I didn’t hurt your father, Mr. Grey. It’s part of the treatment process to restrain a mentally ill person.”
“Mentally ill?” His face contorted and he laughed. “Good. Very good! Guards, escort Doctor Acinea out of this mansion!” Gray ordered.
The two guards approached her so Jenica raised her hand. “I can walk on my own,” she said then stepped out of the room. She stopped for a moment and turned to Gray. “I hope you won’t regret it, Mr. Gray Mondragon,” she said then left the room with a smile.
The smile disappeared from her lips and her gaze deepened as she walked down the long hallway. Carlos wasn’t there and he didn’t notify her that Grey’s group was coming. Something’s wrong!
She turned to the two butlers escorting her. “Where’s my assistant?” she asked. But the two did not answer her. Oh well.
When her feet stepped on the road, the huge gate of the mansion closed. Jenica walked away and secretly looked around. After making sure no one was looking, she took out the earpiece and called the assistant.
“Locate Agent C,” she ordered.
“Roger that,” said the assistant.
She didn’t wait long because the assistant immediately gave Carlos’ coordinates. Jenica squinted when she realized that her sidekick was in the hospital.
“This fast?” she whispered and took a taxi to the abandoned parking lot where her car was. She had ordered Carlos to park her car in the abandoned parking lot because she knew this time would come.
The only thing she couldn’t accept was that she was led by the nose! That’s an unfair fight!
She huffed and drove the car to the hospital where Alex was confined and where Carlos was at that time. When she got there, she found her sidekick unconscious in the hospital bed.
“What happened?” she asked the nurse.
The nurse looked at her. “Relative?” Jenica nodded and the woman said, “A man rushed here. He said the patient was seen bruised and bleeding in the vacant lot on the square.”
“Where’s that guy?”
“He bought something for a while,” the nurse replied before she bid goodbye.
Jenica frowned and approached Carlos. She took his pulse and her face darkened. “Fractured bones, injured liver, trauma in the head,” she whispered.
“Yes. He’s crippled now and it’s your fault, Agent J,” a voice suddenly said.
Jenica’s eyes widened. Damn! Someone came behind her and she didn’t notice! Just how did this man did it?
She quickly turned to face him. He was wearing a hoodie and faded pants. And a big smile was plastered on his lips.
“Agent Z,” Jenica greeted with a dark gaze. She’s now sure that the man standing before her was the one who brought Agent C to the hospital.
The smile grew on the man’s lips and Jenica’s eyes squinted.
Agent Z, the HQ’s top 1 agent. Like the other top agents, she does not know the real name of this strange man because the personal information of top agents is confidential. He is the only agent with a 100 percent success rate in every mission. And the number of times it goes back to HQ could only be counted on one hand so she’s not familiar with him.
Agent Z approaches the lying Agent C and folds his arms. “Such a low grade agent. I expect more from you, Agent J.”
“What are you doing here, Agent Z?”
“Got some clean-up mission, sweetheart.” Jenica narrowed her eyes again so Agent Z laughed. “I don’t mean to offend you but I think you need to focus on your mission.”
“I am doing my mission.”
Agent Z shook his head and crouched down to bring his face closer to hers. “The head thinks you need help so I come here to your rescue.”
She clenched her fist and looked away. “What do you mean?”
“Go back to the capital. Focus on Jared’s group and I’ll be the one to find the mastermind behind the poisonous needles.” He looked at her. “Do it now.”
Jenica took a deep breath. “The head wants to transfer my mission to you? Why?”
“You don’t know?” asked Agent Z. He smiled dangerously at her. “You told the enemy about your association with Oriental Alchemist. Do you know that Doctor Acinea’s good reputation is now on the brink of collapse? A doctor shouldn’t associate herself with poisons but you let the enemy find out your weakness.”
“Enemy? You mean Jared?” she asked with a frown.
“It seems like you now realize it? Tsk, tsk.” Agent Z shook his head. “You’re too reckless, Agent J. The head agent wants Doctor Acinea to never appear in public until this issue subsides.”
“Got it,” she said with a clenched fist. Then she left the room and walked away.
She wanted to go and checked Alex’s conditon but she couldn’t. The HQ staff spread out inside that hospital. She knows because Agent Z is here. And where Agent Z is, that’s where the elite assistants are.
So she immediately went to the parking lot and started the car. After a while, she hit the steering wheel. Her teeth clenched tightly and her eyes were red.
Goodness, Jenica! You took the wrong gamble with Jobert!
She quickly took the earpiece and called the assistant. “Why didn’t you warn me? Why did you keep such important information from me?!” she asked.Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
“Agent J, I got the news too late. The head agent clearly warned us not to let the enemy know that Doctor Acinea has something to do with Oriental Alchemist. I was shocked when I received the news.”
Jenica closed her eyes tightly and bit her lower lip. “I don’t mean that! But why didn’t you tell me that Jobert has connections with Jared!”
“I’m sorry, Agent J. It was my fault for finding it too late.”
She breathed deeply. So frustrating yet she couldn’t blame it all to her assistant since it was she who revealed to Jobert the truth about Acinea’s connection with the Oriental Alchemist. “So Jared’s group has a hand behind the poisonous needles?”
“I’m sorry, Agent J. I can’t verify this restricted information since the mission about poisonous needles has been transferred to another agent.”
Jenica cursed. Her hand holding the steering wheel turned white. That’s why Grey Mondragon had the courage to kick her out of his mansion because her reputation in the medical world was ruined. And Samantha must be the one who framed her because she was ordered to discard the services of Doctor Acinea!
Jared knew that Oriental Alchemist has something to do with the HQ. So Jared clearly assumes that Doctor Acinea has a connection to HQ. So he ordered his subordinate, Samantha Mondragon, not to befriend Doctor Acinea and contain her in the country.
Sh*t. She took a wrong step this time!
So the one behind Jobert begging Doctor Acinea to stay in the South was Jared and not the Antonete!
“Find out if Antonete clan is one of Jared’s men,” she ordered.
“This… I can’t confirm it Agent J since the investigation about Antonete Enterprise is not yet done.”
“What the h*ll! Find it out sooner!” she yelled and hung up.
She threw the earpiece on the passenger seat and accelerated the car. Then she took out her phone to call Alex’s personal assistant.
“Mrs. Fuego?” he greeted.
Jenica sighed. “Alex, my husband,… How is he?”
