Chapter 547 He Knew What Was Going On
It was also on this day that Chanel went to Eden Investment Corporation to see Charles.
He didn’t know her.
“You are…?” Charles had only seen Chanel’s figure from the foot of the building. He hadn’t gotten a
proper look at her face.
“I’m Chanel Kirk, Clarissa’s colleague. I came to apologize to you today. I honestly didn’t think things
through—the only thing that occurred to me was that Clarissa was working here, so I came here. I
didn’t think about how it would affect you.”
Charles was still unsettled at the thought of what had happened yesterday. If the worth of his office
building had been affected, he would really jump off a building.
He was polite to Chanel. Perhaps he felt that since she had the nerve to do something like that the day
before, there was a chance that she would do it again.
“What happened to you yesterday?” he asked.
“Oh, it’s nothing, really. I had an argument with someone because my past was exposed, so I wanted
to get revenge. I acted impulsively, but we made up in the end. Once that urge passed, she advised me
not to do it again, and I told her that I’d try,” Chanel said woefully.
Though her tone was gentle, Charles still understood her underlying meaning—she would try not to do
it again, but there was still a possibility of future occurrences.
This flustered Charles. He didn’t know what to do.
After Chanel left, Charles kept thinking about whether to let Clarissa stay at Eden Investment or not.
Logically speaking, Clarissa had performed well throughout her tenure here, but he was still afraid.
What if it happened again? Ashland was pegged as the largest neighborhood in Florin, and if
something like someone jumping off a building were to happen, it would ruin the whole project. He
could still remember vividly how Patrick had ended up.
Clarissa had a relationship with Damien, though. He had to discuss all of this with Damien.
Damien had gone back to Genovia on this day, and it wasn’t convenient to discuss this over the phone.
He had to find a way to bring it up.
After Bethany went back to Genovia, Clarissa had a few days of peace.
On Saturday, as per Bethany’s “instructions”, she went back to Genovia. She didn’t let Damien know
beforehand.
Mrs. Faber was surprised when she answered the door, but it was obvious that she was also
maintaining her distance.
“You’re back, Madam?” Mrs. Faber asked.
“Yeah.”
Damien happened to come downstairs at this moment. He was also a little surprised to see Clarissa.
“Wow, did the sun rise in the west today? You actually took the initiative to come home.” He smiled
faintly. “Back to see your son?”
“I missed you and Neil, so I came back. Where’s Neil?” Clarissa put her things on the sofa. Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
“He’s upstairs, playing.” Damien turned and called, “Neil, your mother’s back!”
Then, he sat down and picked a book up.
Clarissa sat down next to him.
She heard the stomping of footsteps. Then, Neil threw himself into her arms.
“Mommy, you’re back? Daddy said you weren’t coming back for the time being.” He beamed. Clarissa’s
heart melted at this sight.
“Well, I’m back now, aren’t I? I bought you this. Go and play, alright?” She rubbed him on the head and
handed him a box of Legos.
Neil ran up to his room happily.
Clarissa had woken up early, and it wasn’t even noon yet.
Her phone chimed.
Bethany: [Babe, are you back in Genovia already?]
Clarissa: [I just arrived.]
Bethany: [Great. I’ll be right there.]
Clarissa thought, ‘Bethany’s actually being serious.’
As expected, Bethany arrived after a short while with a handful of things.
The moment Damien saw her, he knew what was going on.
