Part 103 # Break Time
Mahya looked beautiful with her natural makeup and glossy lips. However, of course, one strange thing made Lara feel sorry. Mahya was now in a wheelchair.
“Miss me?” Mahya asked, winking one eye. Lara nodded, tears streaming down her face. She then rushed towards her friend and hugged her tightly.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
“Damn yes! How are you?” Lara asked hoarsely. Mahya just smiled and patted Lara’s back gently.
“I’m fine, as you can see? The important thing is I woke up from a coma, right?” Mahya said with a smile. Lara loosened her hug and examined every part of her friend’s body. Right. Mahya had regained consciousness, and only her legs still couldn’t walk properly.
“This is just temporary, right?” Lara asked worriedly.
“Of course. I’m a wild horse, you know! How could I lose just like that,” Mahya joked proudly, showing off her bicep muscles. Lara just laughed. Her gaze shifted to two other people on Mahya’s left and right. “James, Carol,” Lara greeted with a nod.
James and Carol-those two siblings-smiled and waved their hands. Lara felt a bit awkward with James’ friendly attitude, but her guess became accurate when he tidied up Mahya’s messy hair due to the wind.
“Are you two dating?” Lara asked, widening her eyes.
“W-well…,” Mahya blushed. For the first time, Lara saw her friend’s strange behavior. “Spill the tea!” Lara urged, shaking Mahya’s body. But James quickly pulled Lara’s hand to prevent her from hurting his sweetheart. “Easy, Miss,” he scolded disapprovingly. Mahya just laughed, and so did Lara.
“Hey! Now there’s her bodyguard!” Lara teased, stepping back to maintain James’ dignity as Mahya’s only man and protector.
“Oh, come on!” Mahya grimaced, just fluttering her eyelashes. She really didn’t expect that today, she would be the center of attention. “Eh! Let’s get in the car first,” Mahya invited.
“Let’s go!” Lara agreed, but she forgot that the lawyer and Andre were still behind.
“If you want an interview, you can talk to me,” the lawyer said, handing out his shiny blue background name card. Andre also nodded, agreeing with the lawyer’s attitude.
“Oh, right. Are we going to interview them exclusively?” Mahya now turned to James and Carol. The boss’s eyes widened. “Of course!” Mahya laughed again and planned a solution that could be accepted by all parties.
“Alright, here’s the deal… James and Carol, please get in the car with the Lawyer. Meanwhile, I’ll go with the Doctor’s car with my friend, okay?” Mahya suggested more like a coercion. Her solution, of course, only favored her because Mahya was currently not working.
“Y-you!”
“I’m on my leave, right? Why do you want to exploit my energy?” Mahya responded casually, sticking out her tongue. James just laughed, as did Carol. The woman two years older than Mahya just shook her head.
“Alright, do what you want to do. We’ll go back to work like horses,” Carol said, reaching out her hand to the lawyer. They then got into the office car and did an exclusive interview inside.
“We can go to a quiet place, James! You bring the car. Look! The bees are moving this way!” Carol pointed to another group of reporters who were trying to catch up with Lara and her team.
“Let’s go!”
“Andre, you should go too!”
“Alright!”
Andre, Lara, and Mahya’s entourage immediately hurried to the parking lot not far from the courthouse terrace. Lara pushed Mahya’s wheelchair with laughter; she never thought that such an activity could be so refreshing for her.
“Be careful, Ra!” Andre warned, turning on the car alarm to unlock the doors. Within seconds, he was in the driver’s seat, ready to drive the car to avoid the pursuit of journalists.
“Yes! We did it!” Mahya exclaimed happily after Lara moved her shrinking body, who had not eaten enough, and pushed her wheelchair into the back trunk.
“Let’s go, Ndre!”
“Okay!”
Andre immediately drove the car at a moderate speed, hoping to escape from the pursuit of the journalists. Some of them chased the Channel Insight van, thinking that Lara was there for an exclusive interview.
“I didn’t expect this case to get so much attention,” Lara muttered, sighing deeply.
“You and Seno, you’ve been celebrities for the past few weeks,” Mahya replied, looking at Lara intently. “Are you… alright?” she asked later. Her facial expression turned gloomy. She knew Lara was hiding something. Mahya also understood that Seno wouldn’t just sit back and accept all the defiance Lara showed.
“Well… long story. But, we’re fine,” Lara replied, glancing at Andre who was driving with full concentration. He smiled and nodded, as if confirming Lara’s words.
“So, are you two dating too?” Mahya blinked and covered her mouth. She didn’t expect that happiness as a couple would hit the two of them.
“Well… it’s like that,” Lara answered, blushing.
“That’s it, May. Lara is indecisive,” Andre joked, chuckling softly.
“Ah, I know that very well. So, Dr., Lara really cares for you,” Mahya said, making Andre’s heart almost burst with happiness.
“Really?” Andre couldn’t believe what Mahya said.
“Yes! Lara is very careful when it comes to matters of the heart. You’re lucky, Doctor. Lara is considering stepping up to the next level-Ouch!” Mahya’s words stopped due to Lara’s elbow. “Stop talking nonsense, May!” Lara glared and covered her face with her hand. Andre and Mahya laughed because of it.
Light conversation flowed freely, breaking the silence that had initially constrained them.
Andre, Lara, and Mahya continued to chat cheerfully during the journey. Andre drove the car carefully, while Mahya and Lara laughed and joked with each other.
Although they faced difficult situations, they could still find happiness in their togetherness.
After a while, the car finally arrived at their destination, a secluded and beautiful beach. They got out of the car and admired the stunning scenery before them.
“Wow, the beach is so beautiful,” Mahya exclaimed in admiration.
“Yes, this place is my favorite spot to relax and unwind. I want Lara to take a break for a moment,” Andre added with a smile. Lara was, of course, very happy. She quickly opened the car door and guided Mahya to get ready at the end of the passenger seat.
“I’ll get the wheelchair,” Lara said as she walked towards the trunk.
Meanwhile, Andre got out of the car to help unfold the wheelchair that had been folded in the trunk. Carefully, Andre took the wheelchair and set it up next to the car. Lara immediately pushed it towards Mahya.
“Thank you, Andre, Lara. Sorry for troubling you,” Mahya said, smiling at her two friends.
“What are you talking about? It’s not trouble at all,” Lara said as she adjusted Mahya’s position in the wheelchair. Andre also helped move Mahya into the wheelchair, he was very worried that Lara might fall while lifting Mahya’s body.
“Are you ready, May?” Lara asked, making sure that Mahya was comfortable in her wheelchair.
“Yes! Let’s explore this beautiful beach!” Mahya exclaimed happily.
The two girls dashed ahead of Andre, who looked satisfied and happy. However, before Andre could catch up with the women, a ringing phone surprised him.
“Shanon?”
