Love’ss 40
Chapter 40
Athena didn’t think Madelyn was behaving oddly at all. If anything, she was thrilled that Madelyn had accepted her offer, for it meant she had. accepted Andrew as being part of her life as well.
Madelyn had been living with the Millers since she was ten years old. Whatever pride or arrogance she had in her had been wrought by the family.
Back when her relationship with Andrew was still frosty, no amount of cajoling or gifts from Athena and Grace could make her warm up to them. It was a deliberate move on her part to distance herself from the family. All content is © N0velDrama.Org.
As such, Athena was reassured by Madelyn’s acceptance of her shares.
Beaming at Andrew, Madelyn said, “Darling, did you hear that? Grandma’s already blessed our child with such a valuable gift, and we haven’t even conceived a baby yet!”
“I heard it, alright.” Andrew stroked her hair indulgently.
Easton looked like he had just swallowed a bug as he stared at the loving couple before him. He had moved into the Miller residence in hopes of swindling those shares from Athena, but Madelyn beat him to it.
He cursed inwardly. Where had he gone wrong? Why had Madelyn’s attitude changed so drastically?
Andrew rose from his seat to leave for work. “Benson will stay with you. I’ll pick you up after work,” he said to Madelyn.
She nodded firmly. “Got it, darling.”
Although she knew Andrew had left her in Benson’s care so that
the gesture.
Madelyn walked Andrew to the car, where they embraced for a long while before he finally got into the vehicle and left for work.
When she turned around and found Benson standing not too far away, she asked, “When did you get back?”
Rowan was notably absent.
Previously, Madelyn had tormented Andrew’s men to the point where they refused to see her as Andrew’s wife. Only Benson was determined to remind her of all the things Andrew had done for her, hoping she would change her mind and give him a second chance.
“I just got back yesterday,” Benson replied.
Madelyn nodded. She glanced at Easton, who was standing under the gazebo not too far away. Lifting a brow, she looked away and said, Thanks for coming, Benson.”
“Have you and Mr. Miller truly made up?” Benson pressed in a deep, hushed voice when Madelyn walked past him. There was a dangerous warning in his undertone. While he hoped she had changed her mind about Andrew, he would not stand for any deceit on her part.
Π
Her gaze flickered to him, and she watched the sunlight play over his features. There was nothing but loyalty and vigilance in his dark eyes.
Instead of answering his question, she asked, “You know what happened, don’t you?”
“What?” Benson looked baffled.
“You knew Elena and Easton had been working together to deceive me, didn’t you? And so did Andrew.”
She took his silence as affirmation. A bitter smile curved her lips. All of them knew, even her best friend. She was the only one who had
been oblivious to Easton and Elena’s ploy.
“You should’ve ended him right there and then, Benson!” Madelyn said as she cast a vicious look in Easton’s direction, her words tinged with hate and venom.
Benson stiffened and followed her gaze.
Easton couldn’t hear what Madelyn said to Benson, but he felt her dangerous gaze on him at that moment.
When Madelyn noticed Easton stiffening and blanching, she smirked. Stick close to me today, Benson.”
“Roger that,” Benson answered with a nod as he swiftly fell in step behind her.
When Easton spotted Madelyn and Andrew saying goodbye earlier, he had hoped to get a chance to talk to her. Naturally, he didn’t want her taking half of Athena’s shares in the company so easily; it would ruin his plans.
But he hadn’t anticipated Andrew to leave Madelyn in Benson’s care.
Benson was a lethal character, and with him watching over Madelyn, Easton did not stand a chance of approaching her.
Easton’s knuckles cracked as he clenched his fists, and the rage he had tried so hard to suppress could no longer be edged.
