as he removed the daggers that were stuck into the carpet.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN?" Siegren's eyebrows furrowed in confusion, causing Helga to instinctively take a seat on the sofa in her room. The lights were turned off, but the moonlight seeping through the windows still allowed her to see the features of the Alpha King's face "I've been pondering this for some time, but I have a feeling something is off with the previous candidate's death. While I don't have all the specifics, my instincts are telling me that there is mo to the story." Helga explained. "Especially when the head maid mentioned that both she-wolves chosen in the last Lana sel ded up taking their own lives after having breakfast with you."
"I don't think it's a coincidence that they both committed suicide in same manner," she stated, her eyes following Siegren as he walked towards her and took a seat on the sofa acro com her. He then placed the daggers on the table between them. "If you don't mind my asking, can you tell me how they died exactly?"
"The first one hung herself and the second one took poison," he answered casually, but deep down, the memory of those women's lifeless bodies still haunts him occasionally. He didn't bother investigating much when they died because he knew they didn't want to marry him. Therefore, ending their own lives seemed like the only escape from that inevitable destiny.Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
The weight of guilt gnawed at him, knowing that their deaths were a direct result of his actions. It was an unbearable feeling. Honestly, he decided that this year would be his final attempt at selecting a Luna, and if the she-wolf he chose also ended up taking her life, he would give up on finding a partner who could assist him with his duties and continue the royal bloodline. He believed it was better for the lineage to end with him. But then, Helga unexpectedly volunteered on that fateful night, a plot twist he had never imagined would happen "You mean you didn't investigate their deaths?" Helga's question interrupted Siegren's thoughts, causing him to blink and meet her gaze which was filled with curiosity.
"No, I didn't," he replied, short and simple, causing Helga's brows to furrow slightly. She desperately wanted to maintain a composed expression in front of the Alpha King, but at this point, she couldn't bring herself to care anymore. Their conversation had taken a serious turn, and with her life potentially at risk even within the palace walls-appearances were the least of her concerns
"Why?"
"Because I know that was how desperate they were not to marry a cursed Alpha King, a tyrant," Siegren answered, his voice sounding cold and serious, "Do you think I'm not aware of the rumors surrounding me?"
"But didn't you at least consider that their deaths could have been caused by something other than that?" Helga's voice faltered. She had felt a twinge of disappointment earlier when she discovered he hadn't taken the time to investigate their deaths as if it was none of his concern, but now, realizing that he genuinely believed they had taken their own lives to avoid. marrying him, made her feel a tinge of sadness,
"No, it didn't cross my mind." Siegren let out a heavy sigh and ran his fingers through his hair. "But seeing this happen now, I'm starting to think that what you said could be true. That they didn't commit suicide, that there's a foul play."
"Well, we will find the answer tomorrow once I question the mad," he said as he got up from his sear and turned to face her. He noticed that she was clutching her robe tightly, her hands trembling Despite her strength and ability to defend herself, he knew she must still be shaken from the events of tonight. After all, she had volunteered to be his mate and Luna in order to survive, but even within the safety of the palace walls, her life was still hanging in the balance.
His fist tightened; his jaw clenched. He couldn't believe what was happening and the fact that it was one of his own pack members who had attempted to harm Helga. He had promised to protect her just moments ago, and yet something like this had already occurred. He felt a sense of disappointment in himself for not being able to prevent it. Even though she wasn't harmed, the situation could have turned for the worse if he hadn't reacted quickly to the faint noise he heard. "I won't leave until you fall asleep," he announced, which made Helga's eyes widen in surprise, struggling to believe his
words.

-pardon, Your Majesty?" he stuttered, unsure of what to do as the king approached her. Suddenly, he was standing right in front of her, taking her wrist and making her stand up. He then guided her towards the bed, and she couldn't help but stare at his rough hand that was gently leading her. Before she knew it, she was already lying on the bed with the Alpha King tucking a blanket over her body.
her face grow hot with embarrassment as she pulled the blankets tighter around her body, unsure of what was going on. She struggled to gather her thoughts as she watched Siegren move a chair next to her bed and sit down with ease. The situation felt familiar, and she couldn't t deny that she felt safe in his presence.
She couldn't hold back her question any longer as she blurted out, "Aou worried about me?"
Her a
Her already flushed cheeks turned an
an even deeper shade of red, and sh to respond, causing the intensity in her green eyes to increase as she wit help but stare at him. He took a a moment his answer. "Don't get the wrong i idea, I just can't risk losing a future Luna,"
The words slipped from his lips with a calm authority, but the underlying tension in his posture betrayed his true feelings. Siegren leaned back in the chair, crossing his legs as he regarded her with piercing red eyes. There was a softness to his expression that Helga had never seen before, and it pulled at something deep within her. She could sense his worry, despite the stern facade he presented. Unable to meet his intense gaze, she nodded silently as a small smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. "I appreciate the gesture, Your Majesty but she hesitated, her hands clutching the corner of the blanket as she turned to face him again. "Are you planning on watching me while I sleep?"
"Do you t think I'm a a creep!" "Siegren arched his brow
"I'll simply wait until you're asleep before I take my leave."
"I will also assign a royal guard to stand watch outside your bed chamber to make sure you'll be protected in case of any further attacks"
Helga remained quiet for a few moments, her face
reflecting a mix of confusion and concern as she watched him. She couldn't help but wonder if he insisted on staying because he could see right through her. Perhaps he knew that she was shaken by the sudden attack she experienced earlier, and she didn't want to be alone during this dangerous time. After considering all of this, she made a swift decision to accept his company. She is confident in her ability to defend herself, but what she can't shake off is the fact that this is the first time someone has, tried to kill her while she is asleep. At Incarnadine, her life had been threatened many times through Miranda and the maid's schemes, but no one had ever directly attacked her like this before. So, it's no surprise that she felt a little scared.
"Thank you. Your Majesty," Helga said, her lips curving into a warm smile, causing Siegren's finger to twitch.
"Stop talking and sleep," He ordered, his arms crossed over his chest in a relaxed pose. Helga nodded and flashed him another smile before complying with his command, closing her eyes
"Good night, Alpha."
