No matter the circumstances, she was the mother of his two kids, and maybe because of those memories from when they once loved each other, even if he didn't feel anything for Selena now, he didn't want to see her upset or be in conflict with her. Deep down, he still hoped they could get along.

He wanted to say something, explain perhaps. But Selena wasn't interested anymore. She gazed at Everett's still-handsome face, the man she'd loved so dearly for so long, who'd left countless scars on her heart.

Her voice softened, "Everett, don't worry. I promised to co-parent with you, and I'm sticking to that. We'll raise our kids together, and I won't stop you from seeing them."

"But beyond that, there's nothing left between us. Like I said on the phone last time, we're going our separate ways."

"In the future, if you want to marry and have more kids, that's your choice. And if I... remarry, it's got nothing to do with you!"

She had tried, she had fought, but since nothing seemed to work, it was time to let go. After all these years of back and forth, she was truly worn out...

This wasn't the answer Everett wanted. He grabbed Selena and pulled her up, looking down at her as he stood towering over her.

Selena gave a bitter smile, "Everett, you don't keep me in your heart, yet you expect to be my one and only. Why do you think you deserve that?"

"I'm not that desperate."

Her words were harsh, each one like a dagger to Everett's heart. He had his pride, after all. He couldn't keep getting rejected yet shamelessly keep trying.

Everett stood there, his dark eyes staring at Selena for a long moment before angrily leaving.

Selena let herself fall back onto the bed. Finally, it seemed like everything was coming to an end.

The gossip about Everett and Joy just kept getting juicier by the day. It seemed like every time she opened social media, there was something new about them.

Selena didn't care anymore. She just wanted to wrap up her business in Newport and take her kids back to Northtown. From then on, they'd go their separate ways.
