Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Seeing the frustration etched on Jaime's face, his fists clenched instinctively, barely holding back the urge to knock some sense into his friend. In the days that followed, it seemed Everett had actually listened to Selena that night; he hadn't reached out to her since. Though Selena felt a twinge of sadness, she reassured herself that time would mend everything.

Meanwhile, another issue cropped up-Abraham persistently found excuses to invite her to dinner. After enduring a couple of obligatory meals, she started turning him down. By now, Selena could clearly see Abraham's intentions-he was interested in her in a way she didn't reciprocate.

Never mind the fact that Abraham was technically still married, despite being separated for years. His status made a divorce unlikely. Plus, he was Joy's brother, so any romantic involvement was out of the question. Not that she had any interest—she was, in fact, quite repulsed.

Yet, Abraham's influence in Newport made it tricky for her to maintain her position and complete her project without rubbing him the wrong way, so she had to tread carefully. Holt was aware of the situation too, and it worried him.

With other suitors, Selena had the freedom to choose. If she was interested, she could give it a shot; if not, no problem. But Abraham was different. Upsetting him could have unforeseen consequences.

Abraham wasn't exactly a stand-up guy either. He seemed fixated on Ms. Selena's beauty, wanting to keep her as a secret mistress. Holt couldn't help but vent, "These powerful men are all messed up in the head!"

Selena rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on.

She had turned Abraham down several times, and it was clear he wasn't pleased. During their last dinner, she saw through his facade-Abraham was a man obsessed with control, and any kindness or humility was just for show.

"Don't worry," Selena said coolly. "Today, I really do have plans. I have to attend the jewelry exhibition and auction tonight. Blaine mentioned that our family, the Irwin's, have a heirloom that got sold off when we went bankrupt, and it's going to be displayed and auctioned tonight. I need to get it back."
