Chapter 874
Selena stood there quietly, waiting for him to say something. The man's
handsome face turned serious. "Mateo's growing up, and he needs to start his heir training. Since we're still not back together, he should stay with me during the week. I'll bring him over on weekends."
Selena's eyebrows knitted slightly. Deep down, she didn't want to be separated from her child. But Mateo was a Bennett, the eldest of this generation, and he couldn't be just hers.
Even though her relationship with Everett had come to this point and they might never be a couple again, their kids would always tie them together. Right now, she had to admit Everett's foresight was impressive.
Back then, his insistence on having children was spot on. Selena felt a mix of frustration and acceptance.
"Did you ask Mateo?" she inquired.
Everett nodded, "Yeah, he said he's okay with it if you are."
As a mom, she couldn't hold back her child's growth. The Bennett heir training was truly top-notch. Even if Everett could be a jerk, his talent, insight, and vision were exceptional. Mateo would have a bright future with him, maybe even exceed expectations.
Selena couldn't let her personal issues with Everett stop Mateo from getting the best. She bit her lip lightly and agreed, "Alright."
Everett noticed and couldn't help but grin. He knew exactly what her agreement implied. As long as their son stayed in Newport, Selena might also consider staying for her career. Plus, she was doing great at Irwin Enterprises.
With his goal met, Everett decided not to push Selena further, though he'd like to stick around. "I should get going. Haley's been really clingy lately. If I'm late, she'll start fussing.” He paused, lowering his voice playfully, "Just like you."
The words took Selena back to when she was the clingy one, making her both embarrassed and annoyed. She quickly showed him the door. "You should leave!" Everett chuckled softly, deciding not to tease her more, and headed out. Driving back to Lakeside Mansion, he stepped into the foyer to find two little heads eagerly waiting. Seeing only their dad, disappointment was all over their faces.
Mateo didn't hold back, "Dad, you still haven't managed to win Mom over. You're hopeless!"noveldrama
Everett was taken aback, "??"
Haley echoed her brother, "Daddy's hopeless!"
Those words hit hard. Even a powerful CEO couldn't escape his kids' mockery at home. The staff watching nearby tried to stifle their laughter. It seemed the family hierarchy was clear.
Everett swapped his shoes and approached his son, looking down from above,
"Wipe that look off your face. I promise, I'll win your mom back, okay?"
Mateo, acting all grown-up, rubbed his chin, "Mom doesn't even want to talk to you, Dad. How can you be so sure?"
He had called Ava that day, and spilled the beans. Everett felt his heart shatter. Was this really son? Maybe he should double-check
DNA test.
Haley clung to her dad's leg, trying to comfort him, "Daddy, get Mommy back, get Mommy back."
Everett bent down, picked up his little girl, and kissed her rosy cheek. At least his little sweetheart was on his side.
"Alright, Daddy promises we'll get Mommy back, and soon we'll all be together."
Late at night, a sleek black car quietly pulled up to the detention center. Unlike his last grand entrance, Abraham was discreet this time, meeting Joy in a small room.
Joy's treatment was a far cry from last time; no luxuries or comforts this go-around.
