months after signing. Thirty two million in pre-development vanished. Olivier called it a sunk cost. The state called it procurement fraud."

Olivier slammed his hand on the table, rising to his feet.

"Where did you get these files?" Olivier demanded. "You-this is slander. None of this is public. You had no right to access private communications-"

"I had every right," Liam cut in. "And so does this board. If they do their own due diligence, they'll find everything in those files is accurate. These aren't rumors. These are losses. Documented,"

Olivier pointed at him. "You have no idea how corporate risk management works. Do you think this company was built without missteps? You're a startup kid playing legacy games-"

Liam didn't blink. "No one expects perfection. But this isn't about risk. It's about carelessness. One mistake, and you'll drag the company down with you."

For a moment, no one spoke. Then Reinhardt set his folder down slowly.

"If that's the case," Reinhardt said, "then I'll give my vote to Liam. The company's exposure under Olivier's past decisions was never reviewed properly. That stops today."

Olivier turned sharply. "You're going to turn on me over one set of spreadsheets?"

Reinhardt shrugged. "You knew this meeting was coming. You should've come prepared with your own numbers."

Olivier looked at the rest of the board. "Don't be hasty. This is a smear. These are old deals, some of them were greenlit by my own father-"

"Not the ones in Alabama," said a man two seats down. It was Victor Chen, one of the quieter but more numbers-driven board members. “I remember that deal. You pushed it without proper vendor due diligence. The only reason we didn't review it further was that the chairman covered the loss personally. If the scandal hadn't broken last week, I wouldn't even have come here. But seeing the numbers again?" He closed the folder. "That's enough for me. I'm upholding your father's designation."

Olivier's heart pounded. His fingers curled slightly at his sides.

He could feel it slipping. The momentum was gone. He scanned the room, but the looks that met his eyes weren't undecided anymore. They were calculating. Reassessing. He could feel himself getting dizzy. How did this happen? Didn't he release that scandal on time to sway them? That scandal should have been the nail to the coffin!

His gaze shifted to the head of the table, where his father's chair remained empty.

No one reached for the ballot. Not yet. But the outcome was already written across their faces. And for the first time in a long time, Olivier couldn't talk his way out of it.

And just as he feared, the others immediately expressed their opinions of

upholding what the old man wanted.
