Chapter 1152 Killing Two Birds with One Stone
Tommy left Casper’s office feeling uneasy. Casper had not made it clear how he would deal with Leon, and this made Tommy even more worried. Although Leon had his own agenda, he was still the leader of the group and hadn’t done anything terribly wrong. If Casper no longer trusted him, it would be Tommy’s fault.
Tommy felt guilty about this.
As Tommy walked with his head down, someone suddenly called out to him from beside him. He looked up to see Sage walking towards him from the hallway.
“Sage,” Tommy replied quietly.
“What’s wrong?” Despite limping slightly on his left foot, Sage quickly caught up to Tommy and put his arm around him as he asked, “You look upset. Did Mr. Wood yell at you?”
“No…” Tommy glanced at Sage before speaking softly again.
“You’ve been down for a few days now,” said Sage with concern, “If you consider me your brother, talk to me about what’s going on.”
Having seen how much Sage supported Casper in the past, there was no doubt in Tommy’s mind that he could trust him completely. And since he was feeling overwhelmed by everything that had happened lately, he decided to take a look around before pulling Sage into a corner and telling him,This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
“Sage… do you know if Leon has a personal account?”
“I don’t know,” replied Sage without hesitation, “Why? Is there something strange about it? Having an account isn’t unusual.”
“That may be true,” said Tommy seriously, “But if there is almost twenty million dollars in it, then that is suspicious.”
Sage looked shocked for a moment before finally asking, “Where did Leon get so much money from?”
After hesitating for a while and seeing how worried Sage looked, however, Tommy decided not to doubt himself anymore as he whispered,
“I’ll tell you secretly. Don’t tell anyone else. Leon has been using his position of power for personal gain by secretly transferring company funds into that account! Mr. Wood asked me to investigate this matter earlier today, and I told him my findings. Mr. Wood didn’t seem happy when I told Him. Do you think I might have caused trouble for Leon?”
“Well…” said sage anxiously, “It could be possible. You know what kind of person Mr. Wood is…”
“What should I do?” The thought of having caused harm to Leon made Tommy so anxious that tears welled up in his eyes.
“I understand how you feel,” Sage patted Tommy’s shoulder and said, “Mr. Wood has had to be cautious every step of the way to get where he is today, so he is naturally suspicious and hates betrayal. Leon’s actions will certainly plant a seed of doubt in his mind, but it’s not your fault. You were just being sincere towards Mr. Wood.”
Tommy didn’t feel any better after hearing Sage’s words, but sighed with guilt.
After comforting Tommy for a while, they both went about their business. After reporting on Nia and Kevin’s activities as usual to Casper, Sage went alone to the rooftop of the company building. Once he made sure no one was around him, he sent a long text message from his phone to an unmarked number. Soon after that, the other person replied with only two words, “Protect him.”
Sage contemplated the message for a while, then stubbed out the cigarette, deleted the text, and left the rooftop.
Although Kevin had proposed a gentleman’s agreement at that evening’s party, all of his actions afterwards lacked any trace of gentlemanly conduct whatsoever. Within two weeks’ time, he had sabotaged two projects between StandHill and other companies despite suffering losses himself in doing so. But Kevin enjoyed it all nonetheless! Nia took advantage of this opportunity to promote herself fearlessly within their circle by boasting about how she wasn’t afraid of Casper – an action which was tantamount to inviting trouble upon herself.
“Casper,” Billy who was closest with him came over for tea at StandHill one day saying, “You have got do something now because I can’t bear what Nia has been doing anymore.” During their conversation together over tea, Billy mentioned some rumors that were circulating around town which only served as fueling more fire into Caper’s anger.
Casper clenched tightly onto his teacup when hearing these words; ripples appeared on its previously calm surface.
“You are still the Wood family heir,” Billy hinted, “Your father never showed mercy towards enemies. Don’t let your relationship with Nia stop you from taking action.”
“How could I?” Casper said disgustedly.
“Then show her what you’re made off. Don’t let her become too arrogant!” Billy continued stirring up trouble without hesitation. He was also eager for revenge against Nia since she had crossed him last time round.
“I know what I’m doing,” Casper said calmly as if not influenced by anything at all, but right after Billy left, he immediately called Leon over.
Upon hearing Casper summoning him, Leon eagerly made his way to the office. Lately, he had been feeling that Casper’s attitude towards him had become distant, and he would only call him to his office when there was something important. Therefore, when he received the message this time, he hurriedly rushed over without hesitation.
“Mr. Wood, what can I do for you?” Leon asked boldly as soon as he entered the office.
Casper sat behind his desk and slowly turned around upon hearing Leon’s voice. He stared at him for almost ten seconds, until Leon began to wonder if there was something on his face. Finally, Casper spoke,
“Nia and Kevin have to be taken care of immediately.”
“They should have died a long time ago!” Leon snarled.
“This matter needs to be resolved immediately,” Casper stood up slowly and walked over to Leon, crossing the desk in front of him. He said, “I don’t trust anyone else, so I can only entrust this matter to you personally.”
Leon had always considered himself to be Casper’s most trusted subordinate, and he felt responsible for this matter. Therefore, he immediately declared with great enthusiasm,
“Mr. Wood, leave this to me! You can trust me!”
“Okay, you let…” Casper mentioned the names of a few henchmen and continued,
“They will accompany you on this mission. Get some equipment from Callum. Remember, once it’s done, you need to evacuate quickly. If we have any casualties on our side, we have to be ruthless and leave no trace or bodies. If the mission fails, report it to the authorities yourselves. Just say there was a firefight. I will find a way to protect you. And if you manage to get inside, no one is allowed to leak any information, or else I will make sure they die in prison!”
Leon didn’t think Casper’s words were particularly heartless. People like them were used to living on the edge, and Casper’s considerations were indeed thoughtful. He didn’t even notice that the few guys Casper had just pointed out were the ones who had been drinking with him that night and agreeing with him. So he immediately responded,
“Mr. Wood, rest assured that the bodyguards hired by Nia are all amateurs and their residence is extremely remote, which is advantageous for handling the aftermath. Moreover, Callum’s equipment is fully equipped and they cannot match us.”
