Chapter 1252
Chapter 1252
“Coffee.”
“loe water.”
Liam opted for coffee.
Celeste paused and glanced at him, “You might as well have water, or else I’ll have to fire up the coffee machine.”
Liam’s face showed a hint of dissatisfaction, but he didn’t argue.
Mason watched this scene, a tiny smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.
Even though getting ice cubes from the fridge was a hassle, Celeste didn’t let Mason make concessions for Liam. It seemed like she was respecting Mason, but in reality, she was a bit aloof with him.
Liam was sitting on the couch nearby. The distance between the two wasn’t much.
Liam asked him, “How’s your wound?”
Mason spread his palm, the wound had healed, but the scar was still noticeable. It needed time to recover. He replied, “It’s okay.”
Liam said nonchalantly, “With your experience, there’s no need to take on such cases. The payoff isn’t high, and there’s a risk.”
Mason chuckled, “I didn’t want to take the case initially. But the man’s family had some clout, and the case was related to domestic violence. These are difficult cases no one really wants to handle.
Moreover, that woman was truly pitiful. She had been to almost all the law firms in J City. I had seen her several times at the firm, and each time, she came in injured. The worst time, her left ear was torn, needing stitches, but she still insisted on the divorce, even if it meant losing everything.
I suddenly wondered why people who strive to live have to endure such hardships. So I took her case. I just didn’t expect her husband to find her new place so quickly, almost getting Celeste hurt too.”
Liam grimaced, “You shouldn’t have brought her along, you shouldn’t have gone yourself, you should have handed it over to the police. Since you took the case, you should have understood the other party’s character, and you should have anticipated. That day was lucky. Nothing major happened. But if that knife had actually cut your throat, have you thought about your parents?” Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.
Mason’s throat caught, his hand involuntarily clenched into a fist. After a while, he said, “You’re right. My judgment was off.”
“Don’t make them worry for you anymore. You might not remember, but I saw with my own eyes how heartbroken they were when you had your accident.” Liam paused, then said gravely, “Mason, no one is forcing you to reach a certain level. You don’t have to be so on edge. You know? Your current state is nowhere near as good as when you were overseas.”
“Is that so?” Mason smiled, “I feel fine.”
Liam pursed his lips, not responding.
When he was abroad, he participated in extreme sports, car racing, and marathons. Even the laid–back Nicolas was envious of him. But once he returned to his home country, he seemed to revert back to how he was seven years ago.
He was gloomy, repressed, and troubled.
After a while, Liam said, “You could meet more girls introduced by your mom. If any are suitable, try dating. Being with someone is always more fun than being alone.”
Mason lowered his head and said, “It’s fun when I’m with Celeste.”
Liam paused, then asked bluntly, “You want to pursue her?”
Mason looked up at him, “Can’t I?”
Liam was silent for a while, then said, “If you really want to pursue her, then compete fairly.” He wasn’t sure if he could have her either, so letting him taste defeat wouldn’t hurt. “But if you’re not brave enough to pursue her, I suggest you maintain the respect between friends. Don’t mess things up to the point where you can’t even remain friends.”
