Mysterious Little Wife

Chapter 34 Truth or Drink?

Chapter 34 Truth or Drink?

Her presence brought the lively atmosphere down to a freezing point.

However, Lacey began to eat as if nothing had happened.

Her behavior amused Theo. "Lacey, this is delicious. Have a taste." He took a large shrimp for her.

Lacey nodded and took a bite.

"Well, if it isn't Lacey Carter?" A scoff rang out at that precise moment. It was Evie Cooper who spoke.

"Those claims about you on Facebook are true, aren't they? I'm curious as to how one could be so

slutty at such a young age."

Others turned to glance at Lacey when they heard the remarks, curious to see how she reacted.

But to their dismay, Lacey did not respond in the slightest. She ate her food with an expressionless Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.

face.

"Once a country bumpkin, always a country bumpkin. All she knows how to do is eat!" Evie's tone grew

sarcastic.

"Stop it, Evie. It's not like she wants to be condemned to a rural woman. Because of that, she hasn't

seen much of the world. She has only recently regained her privileged lifestyle and is still adjusting. We

need to be a little more understanding." Another voice spoke up, but this one was gentler.

Although what was said appeared to be an attempt to comfort Lacey, it was, in fact, a vicious jab.

Lacey's hand, which was holding the cutlery, came to a halt.

A rural woman, she said?

Her lip curled up in a smirk. She stood up and poured herself a glass of red wine as she faced the

crowd.

"As a country bumpkin, I have indeed seen very little of the world. Please bear with me, dear upper-

class." She finished the wine in one gulp.

Her straightforward manner made the two women feel slightly awkward.

"Lacey, stop it. Sit down." Lillianna urged with a frown.

"You are free to say whatever you want about me, but don't drag my mother into this. Otherwise,

there's no guarantee what a country bumpkin might do to you~" Lacey beamed. If one looked closely,

one could notice the chill in her eyes.

"Lacey!" Lillianna abruptly stood up and apologized to the two women, "Please excuse Lacey's

behavior. She didn't mean it. She's not used to the rules here. Please forgive her."

The crowd rolled their eyes. Sure enough, there was a clear difference between the rich and the

country people. How speechless!

The party went on. Despite everyone's displeasure with Lacey, no one said anything else.

Lacey drank by herself. She would glance at Lillianna occasionally.

Unfortunately, she had run into Sam's somber eyes twice.

Lacey frowned, dissatisfied. Why was he staring at her all the time?

"How about we play truth or drink?" Just then, Evie got up and made a suggestion.

She was one of the women who had just mocked Lacey.

"How do we play?" Lillianna giggled.

"Whoever was pointed by the spinning bottle must either drink or tell the truth. What do you guys

think?" Evie said with excitement.

Around the table were all youngsters. They were in their playful age.

Meanwhile, Lacey remained deafeningly silent. Such a game had nothing to do with her. She did

nothing but eat and glare at Sam.

That was right. She was being stared at by Sam for no reason at all. Of course, she had to return the

glare.

On the other hand, the others had already started spinning the bottle.

"Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop!" The crowd grew excited as the empty bottle spun.

"Stop!" The moment the bottle came to a halt, everyone turned their heads at the same time.

Lacey froze. She met the crowd's eyes, then looked at the bottle on the table. So it was pointing at her?

"What a coincidence, Lacey. You're the first to take the field. Do you want to drink, or do you prefer to

answer questions?" Evie proudly raised her brows and said.

Lacey replied, "I choose to drink," with a faint smile.

She took a glass of red wine and gulped it down.

The second round of the game began.

"Lacey, which do you choose? The truth or the drink?" Evie asked again with a smirk.

Lacey frowned. She glanced at Evie and then back at the sneering crowd. Why had she been chosen

again?

"You either go big, or you go home. If you can't drink, pick truth." Evie smirked.

Lacey remained silent. Just as she was about to take another big gulp of wine, Theo intervened.

"I'll have it for you!" He insisted.

"Hey, Mr. Henderson! No can do! It's her round of games. She'd have to drink more if you drank for

her," Evie hurriedly said.

"Yeah!" The crowd agreed.

Without a word, Lacey snatched the glass from Theo's hand and drank it all in one gulp.

She felt woozy.

Her head was already spinning after a couple of glasses of wine, and she couldn't keep her balance.

Before she could cool down, an excited voice sounded.

"Lacey, it's you again!" Evie exclaimed.

The crowd applauded. They all stared at Lacey as if she were a funny monkey. While the men wore

curious expressions, the women looked at Lacey with glee.

"You guys did that on purpose!" Theo was upset.

"Mr. Henderson, it's not like I'm the only one spinning the bottle. She's had bad luck!" Evie said with a

smug on her face.

"That's right. If one is willing to gamble, one should accept defeat. Don't play if you can't afford it. If

Lacey didn't want to drink, she could choose to answer questions." Someone added two cents.

Lillianna, who was on the side, remained silent. There was an inconspicuous smile on her lips.

Propped up on the table, Lacey's hands trembled. Her vision was slightly blurred.

Even so, she subconsciously picked up the glass and slowly placed it to her lips.

Before she could take a sip, however, someone grabbed her wrist.

She lifted an indifferent smile and said, "Theo, I—"

Lacey was stunned before she could finish her sentence.

She closed her eyes and opened them again.

Wait a minute!

He wasn't Theo at all!

Sam grabbed her wrist and stood looking at her from above. His eyes were fixed on the wine glass in

her hand. "You're not allowed to drink anymore!" He exclaimed, excluding a hint of hostility.

Lacey frowned and stared blankly at him.

Sam's actions caught everyone off guard.

Huh?

What was going on?
