Chapter 58
When Dr. Crowell called me into his office the last time, I had already seen it coming. I just didn't expect it to happen so soon.
After packing up my things, I headed home. I neatly placed the letters of appreciation in the storage room and put away the rest of my belongings.
"Mom. Yes, I'm coming home today."
I got a call from Mom, and we chatted for a while.
After thinking it over, I sent a message to Kourtney, letting her know not to wait for me for dinner. Once that was taken care of, I returned home.
The housekeeper had prepared dinner, and Mom was waiting for me in the living room. Dad was reading, but his eyes kept drifting toward the door.
"My son!"
As soon as Mom saw me, she rushed over and hugged me tightly, tears welling up in her eyes.noveldrama
"That department head is such a jerk! You're an outstanding doctor, and he should be grateful to have you working there! How dare he suspend you? What gives him the right to treat you like that? And the patient's family, how can they blame you? Just because you're a doctor, does that mean you can save everyone? Look at what they did to you! How dare they hit you?"
Mom was really upset. I gently patted her, trying to calm her down. "It's nothing, Mom. They're just superficial injuries. I'm a doctor, so I know what's serious and what's not."
Mom started crying again.
My parents had always kept a close eye on my situation. Whenever there were changes at the hospital, they were always the first to know.
Although my parents had always said they didn't want me to continue working as a doctor, when they heard I had actually resigned, they both looked at me with concern.
"The hospital director's personal life is a mess, and the hospital is full of politics. Honestly, it's probably better to stay away from a place like that," Dad said, setting down his newspaper and looking at me intently.
"Exactly. We're not lacking in money. If it comes down to it, I'll invest in opening a hospital for you. You can be the hospital director, and no one would dare fire you!"
Mom nodded enthusiastically, and Dad smirked slightly at her words.
After everything, I had finally resigned, yet here they were, talking about the hospital again?
"Not long ago, your mom and I went for check-ups. Our health isn't exactly great. You..." Dad carefully chose his words, trying to find a way to convince me.
I looked at him and said, "I just resigned, so I need to take a break for a while. I'll start working at the company in a few days."
As the only child in the family, I had always known it was only a matter of time before I would have to take
over
the company to ensure our
family's assets didn't fall into
someone else's hands.
However, I wanted to spend my youth pursuing what I loved so that I wouldn't have any regrets later on.
Becoming a doctor had always been my dream, but now, that path had come to
an end. I no longer wanted to continue down that path.
This time, both of my parents had tears in their eyes.
Even Dad stood up, clearly excited. He patted the armrest beside him, repeatedly saying, "That's good."
"But in the short term, it'll be difficult for me to take over the company's affairs. Dad, you'll still need to guide me for a while. Once I'm able to manage things on my own and the you
company is running smooth &
and Mom can finally relax and enjoy your retirement," I said.
Mom wiped away her tears. "Kevin, did you hear that? I've always said our son is thoughtful and obedient. He doesn't need you to push him; he knows what to do on his own."
She took my hand and added, "In our company, no one will ever make you feel wronged again!"
"I know, Mom, Dad. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to prove myself and for being patient with me," I said.
Although my parents had always voiced their apposition, their discontent was only ever expressed in words when I decided to attend medical school and pursue a career as a doctor. They had never actually tried to stop me from following my dreams.
What do you think?
