Chapter 872
March brought with it a hint of spring as the temperatures climbed. The sunlight
was perfect-warm and comforting as it bathed everything in its glow.
After returning from Pittsbrew, Nadine dedicated herself to organizing the lecture
notes, checking everything over and over to ensure there were no mistakes
before passing it on to her team leader, Seraphina Hawthorn.
Seraphina reviewed her work and was visibly pleased. In fact, she went out of her
way to praise Nadine in front of the entire team. Nadine maintained a professional
smile throughout, though her cheeks ached from the effort.
The sole reason she joined this research group was because of Adam's illness.
Years ago, when she was still a student, she had chosen cardiology as her
elective.
Nadine chose it because Sophie had heart problems and she wanted to learn
things that could be useful if Sophie ever had an episode. Later, she applied that
knowledge to help Brad.
Now, with Adam's health deteriorating by the day, she knew she had to keep
pushing herself and not slack off for a second. She clung to the hope of helping
Adam overcome his ordeal.
The leader of the research group, Seraphina, was seven years older than Nadine
and a trailblazer in the field. Renowned domestically and internationally, she was
an expert in heart diseases.
Impressed with Nadine's efforts, she asked her to stay behind after the meeting
and handed her a set of handwritten notes. "I've gone through your résumé,
Nadine. Your theoretical foundation is solid, but you lack hands-on experience.
These are notes I've accumulated over years of practice. I'll lend them to you."
Nadine was overjoyed, her eyes shining with excitement as she thanked
Seraphina. "Thank you, Seraphina! I-I don't even know how to thank you enough
—"
Seraphina patted her shoulder, cutting her off. "You don't need to thank me. If you
want to thank someone, thank Mr. Hamilton Senior. He was the one who funded
my studies when I went abroad. Also, I've heard about Brad's heart condition. You
might find something useful for his case in those notes."
Nadine was about to tell her that she had nothing to do with him but Seraphina
stopped her. "No need to explain. In my eyes, all patients are equal and deserve
help, no matter who they are.
"I've looked into your background and know about your relationship with Brad, but
to me, he's just a patient who needs help. I hope you'll be more patient with him.
"I didn't give you my notes just for you to read—they're for you to study. If you can
find a way to help Mr. Hamilton Senior from them, it would be a great
accomplishment, right?"
With that, she left, leaving Nadine standing there, lost in thought. For the past few
days, she'd known Brad was in the hospital, but she hadn't gone to see him.
To her, Brad was a stranger—someone she had no reason to care about. But
Seraphina's words had completely shaken her.
Brad was a stranger indeed, but he
was also the stranger who had once
taken a knife for her. He was the
man who stormed into the police
station to pull her out of the
darkness when Lucas had her
thrown in there. Was it really right to
treat someone who had saved her
this way?
Seraphina's words made her feel ashamed. Brad might be a stranger, but he was
also a patient.
Nadine took a deep breath and carefully tucked Seraphina's notes into her bag
before heading toward Brad's hospital room. She kept telling herself inwardly to
just treat him like any other patient.noveldrama
...
Spring had arrived late in Janctera
City that year. Even though it was
already March, the peach and
apricot blossoms had yet to bloom.
Only the plum trees were in full
bloom, their vibrant red flowers
resembling crimson clouds. Several
middle-aged women clung to the
trees, striking various poses for
photos.
Standing before the window in his
hospital room, Brad gazed into the
distance, though his eyes were
heavy with sadness. He had always
been bothered by how Nadine saw
him as nothing more than a
substitute for Jack.
Now that Sean's true identity had been revealed, his resentment toward Jack
Clarke only grew stronger. Yet, there was nothing he could do about someone
who had already passed away.
What do you think?
