Chapter 977: Two Hundred and Seventy-One: Righteousness, Evil
Chapter 977: Chapter Two Hundred and Seventy-One: Righteousness, Evil
Feeling the rapidly approaching formidable presence, Tang Luo turned his head to see a streak of black light closing in at an astonishing speed, arriving right before him.
As the black light dissipated, it revealed the monk, Gu Han, his complexion ashen like that of a Corpse Refiner. He stood in the void, pressed his palms together in a salute to Tang Luo, and said with a smile, “Just now, I divined a hexagram, which indicated that a noble person would come from the north, traveling through the sky. As expected, I have met Tang Tianjiao.”
“Looking for me?” Tang Luo crossed his arms and, with an air of ease, looked at the large monk, tilting his head in confusion, “May I know what brings the esteemed master to me?”
Gu Han, the monk, responded with a beaming smile, “Nothing much, I wish to make a business proposition with Tianjiao!”noveldrama
“Now that Ancient Blood Tower is being chased all around the world by the Heavenly Patrol Envoy, you still have the mind to do business?”
Tang Luo grinned and said, “The Longxi Alliance is a legitimate power recognized by the Heavenly Patrol Envoy. Aren’t you afraid I’ll report you to him?”
“If so, what benefit would that bring to Tianjiao or even to the Longxi Alliance?”
Gu Han remained unflustered, still smiling, “Even if the Longxi Alliance were to help the Heavenly Patrol Envoy capture the monk, the stingy Holy Land’s hounds would at best offer some verbal praise. However, no power would be foolish enough to tangle with Ancient Blood Tower for such empty honor.”
“Well, that’s true,” Tang Luo nodded seriously, then continued with puzzlement, “Even if I don’t report you, I still see no reason to do business with you. After all, being associated with a fugitive—if the Heavenly Patrol Envoy grows suspicious, my Tang Clan of Longxi can’t avoid trouble as easily as Blood Tower can.”
“Tang Tianjiao is too modest,” Gu Han waved his hand, nonchalantly speaking, “While the Tang Clan is indeed thriving in Longxi, you are not so significant in Blood Tower’s eyes. This transaction is not between Blood Tower and the Longxi Alliance, but a personal negotiation between myself and Tianjiao. Does Tianjiao know why the Ancient Blood Tower is wanted by the Heavenly Patrol Envoy?”
Many truths in the world are buried beneath grit, and this grit is exactly what the victors want you to see. After all, everyone wishes to see their victories as glorious and honorable.
Every intelligence agency knows the feud between the Heavenly Patrol Envoy and Ancient Blood Tower began when Corpse Monk, Gu Han, and Bone Taoist, You Feng, two heaven-level assassins, attempted to kill a member of the An Clan at the peak of Fierce Realm, a formidable figure nearly reaching the status of master, thus starting an inexplicable hatred.
But there were far too many mysteries surrounding this incident. Although Ancient Blood Tower was an organization of assassins, its main focus was digging up ancient sites and trading in ill-gotten goods, trading secret methods forbidden to be passed outside the sects to strengthen itself.
You would think such an organization must have committed some stupidity to brazenly kill an envoy, especially one from the most powerful Holy Land of the An Clan.
The case was filled with peculiarities, yet everyone pretended not to notice. Would the Corpse Monk speak so candidly about it upon their first encounter?
Tang Luo was highly skeptical, hence his expressionless face and crossed arms that remained in place as he simply stated, “I would like to hear the details.”
“Ever since Ancient Blood Tower was established, we have adhered to the principle of sharing secret techniques and lifting martial prohibitions. This is the fundamental reason why the Human Race has thrived in martial arts!”
Gu Han’s face showed an unprecedented seriousness, “Tang Tianjiao must have also realized that in the later stages of martial arts cultivation, everyone’s needs are different, secret techniques are different, paths are different, even if it is the same sect’s inherited techniques, two different individuals practicing it would yield vastly different results!”
“Even the resources of the sect are limited, once disciples need specific resources and secret techniques, unless one has profound heritage and exceptional talent, otherwise one can only wait agonizingly for their turn. Sometimes, even after waiting for their turn, the sect might not be able to fulfill the proper allocation of resources.”
“So, many sect disciples are not unable to progress further, but are held back by resource limitations and thus have no choice but to stagnate. Is this not the greatest waste?!”
Corpse Monk spoke passionately while Tang Luo seemed uninterested and said indifferently, “Does walking on an untrodden path guarantee that it’s not a waste? The reason a sect is a sect, a holy land is a holy land, is because sages and predecessors went through countless wrong paths to find one correct path.”
“I think, if these disciples were to follow the orthodox path, the sect should not lack resources to provide for them. But if one insists on blazing a new trail, what’s wrong with the sect adopting an experimental mindset, allocating resources in batches?”
“Experiments also need to speak of returns. To pay for the ideas of a ‘genius,’ do you know how much resources, how much time it would cost?”
Pointing at Gu Han, Tang Luo continued, “If indeed you are a prodigal genius, then the resources needed on this path, please acquire them yourself, why rely on others? If you’re not, even giving resources would be a waste. If you were the sect, would you be willing to give them like this? You really think sect resources are rain from the sky?”
“Take a huge step back, even if you do succeed in the end, find another way out, are you sure this path would be superior to the existing one? Which sect holy land lacks a research institute, with martial arts grandmasters leading scores of martial arts masters day and night, their results wouldn’t be better than a disciple’s whimsical thoughts?”
“Are you, joking with me?”
There was nothing more satisfying than putting someone in their place. Tang Luo’s irritation from the arranged marriage vanished after dealing with Gu Han, leaving him feeling refreshed and clearheaded.
And the complexion of Corpse Monk had darkened like the bottom of a pot, originally he thought that a youth Tang Luo’s age would typically have the passion to criticize the mighty and question authority, so he chose such a point to start the conversation. However, he didn’t expect that Tang Luo, a twenty-year-old young man, would be much more mature than he had imagined, causing himself to fall into a passive state in the discussion.
The opening lines he had prepared all became useless, not to mention he had to salvage his image from the radical ideas he had just expressed.
Corpse Monk inwardly complained bitterly, but his face remained impassive. He even chuckled and said, “What Tang Tianjiao said is the true reasoning of martial arts; however, these disciples’ boundless ideas always need someone to help them realize them, hence the Ancient Blood Tower came into existence.”
“We provide these disciples with the resources they need, while they exchange their sect’s techniques, secret techniques, strength arts, spirit weapons, beast spirits, Dao Jade. As long as they can name it, we can provide it, mutual exchange of what’s needed!”
“In the end, Ancient Blood Tower even became a place for these regulars to exchange secret techniques, strength arts, and resources. Many disciples who were originally inconspicuous in their sects have now become elders of the sect, or even those in charge!”
At this point, Gu Han cast a triumphant look towards Tang Luo, because he felt that he had made his point clear enough.
