Reclaiming My Broken Luna 2

Chapter 371: Getting Closer

Nova's POV

The room was silent, save for the crackle of the fire burning low in the hearth.

I sat at the head of the long table, staring at the assortment of documents scattered before me.

Each piece felt like a fragment of a puzzle too shattered to put back together. Drystan stood at the far end of the room, arms crossed, his expression grim.

His wolf had been on edge since our return from the Emberwood ruins. So had mine.

"They planned it," I murmured, breaking the silence. "Liora's death wasn't just a rogue attack. They lured her there, Drystan. And someone helped them."

Drystan's jaw tightened, his golden eyes glowing faintly in the dim light. "We've suspected as much. But we need proof-something that ties this to someone in the Pack. Without it, we have nothing."

I picked up the silver locket we'd found at the ruins, my fingers brushing over its worn surface.

Liora had carried it with her everywhere. Finding it there felt like she'd left it as a breadcrumb, a plea for the truth to be uncovered. But the truth was elusive, always just out of reach.

Drystan moved closer, his presence grounding me as I turned over the next piece of evidence: a ledger recovered from the ruins.

The handwriting was unfamiliar, the ink smudged, but the entries were clear.

"Meet Silvermoon informant-primary target: Liora Duskwatch. Location: Emberwood ruins."

"Why the Emberwood ruins?" I asked, looking up at Drystan. "What's so important about that place?"

"It's isolated, ancient," he replied, his voice clipped. "A place no one would question if someone went missing. It was the perfect trap."

I frowned, my mind spinning with possibilities. "But why Liora? Why target her specifically?"

Drystan's hands clenched into fists at his sides. "She was everything to me. My mate. My strength. Maybe they thought by taking her, they'd weaken me enough to eliminate me as a threat."

My heart ached at his words, but I knew he was right. Liora's death had devastated him, leaving a void no one could fill.

And now, the rogues were using that wound to manipulate us.

I watched Nova and Drystan from across the room, my stomach twisting into knots.

They were so close to the truth, each piece of evidence bringing them closer to Rowena's betrayal.

Every word, every glance they exchanged felt like a dagger aimed at the secret Killian and I were desperately trying to keep hidden.

Killian stood beside me, his posture stiff, his face a mask of neutrality. But I knew him too well. Beneath the surface, he was unraveling.

"We're running out of time," I whispered, my voice low enough for only him to hear.

Killian's jaw tightened, but he didn't respond.

Nova's voice broke through the tension. "This ledger... The handwriting is familiar, but I can't place it. Whoever wrote this had access to Silvermoon."

"Someone high up," Drystan agreed, his tone sharp. "Not just any Pack member could coordinate with the rogues like this."

I exchanged a glance with Killian. He looked away, his golden eyes flickering with guilt.

I reached for his hand beneath the table, squeezing it gently.

Nova turned her gaze to us, her expression conflicted. "Do you think there's someone in Silvermoon who could have done this? Someone who would have betrayed Liora?"

I forced myself to meet her gaze, even as my wolf bristled with unease. "I don't know," I said carefully. "But if there is, we'll help you find them."

Drystan nodded, his eyes narrowing. "We need to search deeper into Liora's past, her connections. There's something we're missing."

Killian and I sat in our room, the fire casting flickering shadows on the walls.noveldrama

The ledger and the locket sat on the table between us, silent reminders of the truth we were burying.

"They're going to find out," Killian said finally, his voice heavy. "It's just a matter of time."

I wrapped my arms around myself, trying to steady the storm ragingz inside me. "Then we have to make sure they don't find out from the rogues. If the truth comes out, it has to come from us."

Killian's head snapped toward me, his eyes blazing. "Do you know what that will

do to them? To Drystan? To Nova?"

"Yes," I said quietly, my throat

tightening. "But do you know what it

will do if they find out we hid it from

them? That we knew Rowena was behind Liora's death and said nothing?"

Killian looked away, his hands gripping the arms of his chair so tightly I thought the wood might splinter. "We're trapped, Astrid. No matter what we do, we lose."

I reached for his hand, my voice soft but firm. "Then we focus on the Rogue King.

If we can take him down, maybe... maybe we can find a way to make this right."

Killian nodded, though his expression remained grim. The truth was like a ticking bomb, and we were running out of time to defuse it.

Nova's POV

I couldn't sleep. The pieces of the puzzle kept spinning in my mind, fragments of a truth just out of reach.

The locket, the ledger, the ruins-it all pointed to someone within Silvermoon. But who?

Drystan stirred beside me, his breathing heavy and uneven. Even in sleep, the weight of Liora's death haunted him.

I brushed a hand over his arm, my heart aching for him, for us.

"I'll find the truth," I whispered into the darkness. "No matter what it takes."

As the firelight dimmed, I vowed to keep searching, to uncover the person who had betrayed Liora.

Because whoever they were, they hadn't just taken her from Drystan. They'd taken her from me too.
