Chapter 107
"Athena," I said in a whisper. Immediately I woke up, wondering if that was my real name.
Yes, I could not remember what I was called from childhood. The earliest memory I had was from when I was fifteen. I remember waking up in an old barn deep in the woods. After walking a little, I saw an abandoned female pup and I decided to take her as mine even though I had nothing to eat or nowhere to sleep.
I decided to cater for the both of us. We encountered a rogue, but luckily for us, the warriors from Noctus Umbra found us and decided to take us along with them. They dyed my blonde hair brown, because according to them, my blonde hair will draw too much attention. I was given a new job as a maid in the Alpha's mansion. As at then, Alpha Leo and Luna Rita were the ones in power. Emma was taken care of. When I turned eighteen, I was given guardian rights over her and Alpha Atlas got crowned as the new Alpha of the pack. I had never encountered him, until recently when I found out he was my fated mate.
Alpha Atlas being my fated mate was something I believe was a mistake from the part of the moon goddess, even though everyone believed that she could never make a mistake, so I expected a rejection from Alpha Atlas.
But, when I got rejected, I could not take it as well as I thought I would. My mind drifted back to when he visited yesterday. He seemed different from when he rejected me and I was confused.
This mixed signals of his was annoying, but I should care less, because I would never see him again. At least, I hoped to not. My heart squeezed in pain a little and it made me wonder if I truly wanted to stop seeing Alpha Atlas. He rejected me, but yesterday when he came around, I still felt a small bond with him.
My hand wandered to the five-spot birthmark at the top back of my shoulder. I felt a sharp pain there and that was strange, because from what I knew, birthmarks don't hurt.
"Is this just a dream? Or, is this a memory of mine?" I wondered. "Is my name really Athena?"
I sighed and got out of the bed.
I had to go to the coffee shop early. My boss was planning on bringing his daughter to work today and he might be late, so I had to go early today.
I took Emma along with me, hoping that she will get along with my boss's daughter.
Emma helped me in ways that she could when I got to the coffee shop until my boss, his daughter and two of her friends joined us.
"Good morning, sir," Emma and I greeted my boss in unison. I turned to his daughter and her friend and flashed them a smile. "Good morning, angels," I greeted.
They glanced at each other, then at me, snorted and walked awayUpstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
My face turned red in embarrassment.
These children were about Emma's age and they were already this disrespectful.

"Enough!" My boss lashed out and I beckoned on Emma to stop. She stopped talking, but she kept on glaring at the brats. "Elaina, if you can't warn your ward, you will have to leave your place."

I said nothing in reply. bit my lower lip to stop myself from talking. If I let myself talk, I was definitely losing this shitty job and my boss would definitely not be selling any coffee today.
I kept Emma near my side the whole day. As I worked, I thought of locations to find jobs. I had to leave this one. I was not
who disrespects me. ready to work for someon
"Mom, can I get myself
sweets?" Emma asked, pouting and I decided to let her get the sweets she wanted to get.
Thirty minutes later, I heard a loud noise and I rushed out of the kitchen to see what was going on. My Emma was on the ground and my boss's daughter and her friend were towering over her. My blood boiled hot and I growled.
"Freak," One of the girls said and I froze. I tried to move but I was unable to.
'Freak'. That word sounded familiar.
My mind went back to the dream I had this morning and beyond to my...
Childhood memories. The same childhood memories that I could not have access to.
'Athena, Why can't you talk?' I recalled the words of a neighbor to a four year old me, eighteen years ago. Most human children can talk by this age. How much more a werewolf should be able to speak fluently at the age of one? 'Heard, she's an animal all through with no feelings. She is unaware. She could tear off our flesh if we let her to. She's a freak.
Athena is a freak. I can never be friends with her.'
"Emma, you're a nobody. Your mom is a slave to my dad and that makes you a slave to me. You are under me." My boss's daughter's voice brought me back to reality, but I still was not snapped out completely from the memories I was having. Her words were triggering. 'You're under me.' I have heard that before.
'Athena is an animal. We are above and she is way below us.' My mind flickered back to eighteen years ago.
Hot tears ran down my cheeks. I hated it.
I hated these memories. I hated the fact that I was watching Emma getting bullied, but could not do anything about it, because of how traumatized I was.
"I am not under you," Emma snarled and one of those brats grabbed her by the hair.
I wanted to go to her and stop her, but I was fighting my own battles. My memories were rushing in by the second and they were just too much for me to process.
"You are. We all have well to do parents. You only have a poor mother who is a slave to my father. And, you don't even have a father."
"Brat, who told you Emma does not have a father? How dare you call her fatherless when I am here?"
I looked in the direction of the thick, intimidating male voice.
Who I saw shocked me.
