Chapter 1284
Jenna took a moment to think before saying, "Mr. Angelo's task is definitely tougher than ours!"
Angelo's eyes lit up at her words.
Jenna gave Angelo a friendly pat on the shoulder and said, "The Tredgold family's chef isn't exactly a culinary genius. You're in charge of making us a fantastic dinner for when we get back!"
Angelo's smile quickly turned into a frown. "You call that a tough task?"
"Absolutely! Good logistics are crucial!"
With a cheeky grin, Jenna turned to Adler beside her and said, "Mr. Adler, let's go. Time to visit the home you've been dreaming about."
The last place Adler wanted to go was home. The last person he wanted to see was his dad.
But with Jenna standing right there, Adler could only say, "I'm doing this just for you. If it were Colby asking, even if he got down on his knees and begged, I'd still say no!"
Colby, with a casual tone, added, "Honestly, my plan to raid the Tredgold family's ledger doesn't sound so bad now, does it?"
"Don't! Please, I'm begging you all! If you storm into the family chapel in front of my old man, he might not do anything to you, but he'd definitely make my life hell!"Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.
Adler knew Colby could pull it off. Colby always did whatever he wanted, leading his two best friends into all sorts of trouble. Would he be afraid to add one more to the list? That evening, Adler and Jenna were already prepped and headed to the Tredgold family estate.
During the drive, Jenna glanced at Adler, who was behind the wheel, and asked, "Why are you shaking?"
From the backseat, Sophie chimed in, "Yeah, the car feels a bit wobbly."
"It's not the car; it's me," Adler
admitted, his lips a bit pale. "I haven't been home in over six months, and suddenly showing up tonight.. can't even imagine the stormI'm walking into."
"Are you really that scared of your old man?"
"Scared? He's practically inhuman!" Adler corrected himself, "He's just... a total nightmare!"
Still not quite right.
"He's just. well, he's a stubborn old goat, with a temper as hard as a
rock in
a latrine! We've modernized
as acountry, right? Yet, he still clings to those outdated rules!"
Sophie asked, "What kind of rules? We're almost there, and I don't want to say the wrong thing."
"Talking? Forget it, you absolutely can't speak during dinner in front of him," Adler warned. "When I was a kid, I got slapped across the mouth plenty of times for that."
"I know!" Jenna interjected. "Once, when I was little, I accidentally knocked my chopsticks against a bowl at his house, and Adler's dad just stormed off without eating!"
Adler explained, "That's because
knocking chopsticks against the bowl is considered extremely rude; traditionally, only beggars would do that to ask for food. He thought you were being disrespectful."
"But it was an accident!"
"That's why I say he's unreasonable!"
Jenna quipped sarcastically, "Yeah, I bet he doesn't want a 'disrespectful' daughter-in-law like me."
Adler countered, "What does my marriage have to do with him? It's me getting married, not him! Even if he doesn't agree, I'd cut ties with him just to marry you!" Hearing this, Jenna couldn't help but giggle.
Sophie remarked, "No wonder my parents and the Tredgold family never really got along."
"No! There was some interaction, just once! Only that one time!"
