Chapter 33: Miss You So Much
Chapter 33: Miss You So Much
It was getting late. Lauren was so tired that she fell asleep, murmuring something in her dream. Alfred leaned closer and listened carefully, only to realize that Lauren had dreamed of her family.
Alfred stretched out his arm to hold Lauren, taking her into his arms. His baby had suffered so much. It was time to get justice for her.
In the early morning, a ray of sunlight came in through the blinds. Lauren rarely had a good sleep, stretched herself contentedly, and sat up from the bed.
But the other side of the bed was empty. Alfred was standing naked in front of the mirror and started dressing.
Lauren looked at him, just thinking that the man was very good-looking when he dressed up. "What kind of beautiful girl are you going to meet by dressing so nice?"
Seeing that Lauren was awake, Alfred quickly sorted out his clothes, walked up to her, and gave her morning kisses.
"Today, I will take you to a place." Alfred didn't say too much. He told the people of the company that he would take a day off, and then he got into the car with Lauren who looked puzzled.
When they arrived at the destination, Lauren got out of the car and had mixed feelings while seeing the things in front of her.
This was the mansion of the Jones family, where she had lived for several years. It carried her childhood memories and her favorite family members.
However, things had changed, so did the house. There was only the house, but it was dilapidated. Even the wall had been demolished. Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
She suddenly felt sad. "What did you bring me here for?" The person Lauren missed the most was gone, and coming here again would only make her feel distressed.
Alfred didn't answer and took her into the room. A stale smell came over. Lauren sneezed a few times.
"Who is it?" A hoarse voice was heard. At first, it sounded like the hoarse sound made by old-fashioned bellows, which seemed a bit terrifying in the empty and old mansion.
Since she moved out, only Tina lived alone in this house. Why did she look so miserable?
While in doubt, Lauren took a step closer and found an aging figure in the kitchen.
A woman was stooping with gray hair and pudding in her clothes. When she turned around, Lauren covered her mouth in surprise.
"Lauren, you are back."
It was Tina Mill, her stepmother. How did she end up like this? In her memory, Tina was mean and jealous. What she cared about most were her image and money. She had always hated herself, but what she said just now sounded somewhat amicable.
"The Jones Group was in the charge of me. She didn’t get a single share. All the inheritance left by
your father was squandered by her. Even the dowry left by your mother was also occupied by her. Later, in order to pay off the debt, she took everything in the house to pay for it. Only this house was left."
Alfred told Lauren what had happened. She was not surprised that Tina ended up like this, but the Jones Group was her home after all.
Tina kept her head down. She was no longer arrogant as she was when facing her before.
Lauren couldn't bear to see her lonely look. "Mom."
Maybe Tina didn't expect Lauren to call her again. Her eyes were red, and she staggered towards Lauren.
"Lauren, Mr. Kent was right. I was too greedy, which hurt your dad and also myself. I was wrong. The one I feel most sorry for is you." Tina burst into tears.
Lauren glanced at Alfred and didn't know what to do. She wanted to step forward to help Tina up, but Alfred took her hand.
"She deserves it, Lauren, don't sympathize with her." Alfred pulled Lauren to walk away, but Lauren was unable to move her feet.
In the beginning, she really hated Tina, but after she had experienced so much, she also moved on from the past. Tina failed, but it didn't mean Lauren had to gloat over her misfortune.
"Tina, to be honest, I can’t be totally over it. I know everything you have done. But I don’t hate you anymore, and I won’t trouble you. Give me my mother’s memorial tablet, please."
Lauren helped the aging woman up, and then under her lead, she found her mother's tablet.
Lauren's mother smiled gently in the photo, but unfortunately, it could only be seen in the photo. Lauren held the tablet covered with dust in her arms, feeling rather gloomy.
Alfred knelt down with Lauren. What Lauren said just now could actually be regarded as talking to him.
He did no less wrong to Lauren than to her stepmother, but he would make it up for her for the rest of his life!
"Mother-in-law, don't worry, I will take care of Lauren for you in the future." Alfred hugged Lauren, his eyes determined.
After relocating the tablet of Lauren's mother, Alfred specially prepared a room to place her tablet.
Lauren occasionally visited her mother and talked with her. But the answer to her was always only her mother's smile and silence.
Lauren couldn't help feeling a little sad. The tree would like to be quiet but the wind is blowing while children would like to support but parents can't wait. Before she could repay her mother, her mother passed away.
"Mom, I miss you so much." Lauren stroked her mother's tablet as her voice was hoarse.
This scene fell in the eyes of Alfred. He knew that Lauren was upset, so he naturally wanted to solve the problem for his wife.
Alfred walked up to Lauren and wiped her cheeks, "Lauren, let's go traveling."
Lauren thought that she was too tense lately and it would be a good idea to go traveling to relax, so she quickly agreed. Only when they were traveling did she realize that she remained tense all the time while she was with Alfred.
