Chapter 44 Grandpa Has Gone

“Yes, I can.”

Nicholas nodded and added, “Grandpa, I promise you.”

“Okay.” Grandpa was so happy that he smiled and said, “Then, I am rest assured now,”

“Go and bring Nancy in.”

Nancy was the last to enter.

When she reached the doorway, she desperately wiped away her tears.

She knew Grandpa wanted to see her smile, and he didn’t want her to cry,

So she had to hold it in, she shouldn’t cry, she absolutely shouldn’t.

After struggling to adjust her emotions, Nancy tried to smile and walked up to Grandpa, holding

his hand.

“Grandpa, it’s me, Nancy.”

Nancy kept on forcing herself, telling herself to smile. Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.

She had to show her best side to Grandpa, make him happy, and not let him worry.

But she couldn’t hold back her tears as soon as she spoke.

“Nancy, don’t cry. Birth, old age, sickness, and death are the laws of humanity. Everyone will eventually reach this stage. It’s just that I got there a little earlier. After I’m gone, what worries me the most is you.”

Nancy held his hand and desperately shook her head, “No, Grandpa. I don’t want you to pass away. I want you to always be by my side.”

“We made a promise, didn’t we? I still have to take you to travel. I still need to fulfill that promise. How can you leave me all alone?”

Nancy cried so hard that she could hardly catch her breath. She couldn’t accept it.

She even felt like everything in front of her was just a dream.

She thought that when she woke up, the dream would be over.

“Nancy, I know you’ve always harbored doubts about your marriage to Nicholas. You thought he wasn’t voluntary, so you were disappointed. But I want to tell you that sometimes the process isn’t

important, the result is.”

“Did you always think I let you marry Nicholas out of gratitude?”

Nancy nodded. “Yes.”

Indeed, she had always thought that way.

Grandpa shook his head and said, “Back then, your mother saved me, and everyone thought I let you marry Nicholas just because I wanted to repay my favor and to ease my conscience. But, if it was only about gratitude, I had a thousand ways to do it. I could have given you money, luxury cars, villas, shares, and many more. But do you know why I specifically chose this path?”

Nancy shook her head and listened quietly.

“Because only this way can you ensure your lifelong happiness. Only when everything about you is tied to Nicholas can it be more reliable.

“Of course, I had some selfishness, too. Over the years, there have been a lot of things. I’ve seen many girls, but you are the most suitable for Nicholas. Madelline is not the one for him. They will not be happy together. Her thoughts aren’t pure, and she wants too much.”

“But Nancy, you are different. You’re kind and pure, and you’ve never been one to compete,”

“You need to remember my words. One day, Nicholas will discover your kindness. He will have a change of heart and fall in love with you. You’ll have many chubby little kids, and when that time. comes, remember to tell me and share a drink with me.”

Nancy smiled and promised, “Sure, Grandpa. I’ll remember it.”

Grandpa patted her hand, hanging onto his last breath, and continued to speak.

“Perhaps it’s difficult now. But you guys are husband and wife. In this life, you should go hand in hand, share joys, and face difficulties together. Trust me, you will surely find your happiness.”

“I built the Sallows from the scratch. You probably have yet to hear me mention Grandma much. She passed away many years ago, but she was the woman I loved most. She was intelligent, elegant, wise, and kind. I could make the Sallows this big, and it’s all because of her support.”

“For all these years, as long as she was here, I felt at ease.”

“But later on, as our conditions improved, her illness worsened. I couldn’t keep her with me in the end. After hanging on for so long, it’s time for me to go and accompany her

At this point, Grandpa smiled gently.

After many years, this was the first time Nancy had seen such an indulgent and happy expression on Grandpa’s face.

“Grandpa, you must have loved Grandma very, very much.”

“Yes. Grandpa nodded thoughtfully, his thoughts drifting far away. “Yes, I loved her very much.

“I’m just like you guys. I miss Grandma. So, I also want to pursue my love. I feel pleased when I can accompany Grandma.”

After saying this, Grandpa looked highly exhausted.

Nancy poured him a glass of water, and after he drank it, he closed his eyes to rest.

Nancy watched him with his closed eyes, suddenly feeling very afraid.

But she didn’t dare to say anything.

And also dare not move.

She was waiting in silence.

An agonizing wait.

Several minutes later, Grandpa slowly opened his eyes again and spoke with great effort, “Nancy, I’ve left a key with your mother. Use it to open the second drawer. There’s a letter I’ve written for you. I can’t speak anymore, so I wrote everything in the letter.”

“Okay, Grandpa. I will surely take a look as soon as I get home.”

Nancy nodded vigorously, but her tears continued to flow uncontrollably.

“Nancy, don’t cry. I’m not in pain.”

“Okay,” Nancy quickly wiped the tears from her face. “I’ll listen to you. I won’t cry.”

“Grandpa, I have a secret that I want to tell you.”

“Oh?” Grandpa was quite surprised.

Nancy leaned closer to Grandpa’s ear and whispered, “Grandpa, I’ve loved Nicholas for many years, and I love him very much. Don’t worry. I will cherish our marriage,

many,

“And… Nancy placed her hand on her abdomen, her gaze gentle and radiant as she said, “Grandpa, I’m pregnant.”

When Grandpa heard this, his eyes sparkled with excitement, showing an unusual enthusiasm.

Perhaps he was too excited. His lips trembled, and he didn’t speak for a while.

But it was clear that he was pleased.

Nancy knew what he wanted to ask and quickly grabbed his hand, explaining earnestly, “It’s true, Grandpa. I didn’t lie to you. It’s been almost two months.”

“Grandpa, don’t worry. I will follow your advice and protect the baby and our home.”

“Good.” Grandpa was ecstatic, and saying this word took him a while.

After the excitement, Grandpa took a deep breath and looked extremely tired.

Nancy knew that the moment was approaching.

The medical equipment started making intense noises, and everyone rushed in.

Grandpa smiled at everyone, then lowered his hands, closing his eyes forever.

When he left, there was a faint smile on his lips.

The doctor made every effort to save him, but it was futile.

Finally, the doctor announced the time of death.

The doctor said that Grandpa passed away peacefully, without pain, and must have felt content in

his heart.

However, this couldn’t alleviate the grief and emptiness in her heart.

Nancy sat there blankly, like a lifeless statue, completely motionless.

Her hands didn’t move.

Her entire body remained still.

Her eyelids didn’t blink, and her whole person was like a sculpture.

For a long, long time, she couldn’t come to terms with this reality.

It was until Sarah hugged her, crying loudly, “Nancy, please say something. Don’t scare me.
