At The Entrance
THE COLD breeze of the wind shoves inside the window, waking up the sleeping beauty. The surrounding is still calm and could be deafening. Zoe stretched her arms upward and smiled before opening her eyes. Her eyes blinked twice, thrice, until she adjusted her vision to the light coming from the window. “What a lovely day,” she stated when she got up and sat. She looked pat through the window and saw the shades of the sky turning orange in delight. The sun is rising and ready to say HI to the world. Zoe knew today was a busy day. Of course, her first day of work. However, she couldn’t help but sigh as she got off of her bed. She opened the window and wandered her eyes around. And she let out a soft chuckle when she remembers that the AC is on. She then pulled back the window and waved the curtain to see the view. The trees are still calm this morning. She also saw birds flying as if they were also in a hurry for something, maybe finding a portion of food to eat. And, of course, she could see some vehicles traveling on the road. She knew some of those were employees who stayed overnight, like people who worked 24/7 or got a shift at night. Zoe then realizes that she was blessed, staying in a luxurious penthouse at the top of a building that cost millions of dollars. However, why can’t she feel total happiness? It may be because this wasn’t her dream life. Say, she’s lucky with Helios, but the thing is, chances that came for an instant may vanish in an instant. She doesn’t know if this kind of life will last. She can’t just risk her life, her freedom. If marrying Helios would make him happy. How about her? Zoe took a deep breath and flashed a smile. ‘Whatever might happen, I must deal with my actions,’ she pondered. After a few moments of feeling the great ambiance, Zoe started to prepare for her first day as Helios’s secretary.
The fact that she was Helios’s secretary means to say she needs to be patient and work with professionalism. She must not let their situation ruin their jobs. This means she also needs to deal with Helios's cold treatment. Just what had happened the past few days, she knew Helios would give her a stern demeanor, which she believed that she could ignore. After a few minutes of getting ready, she went down, and Nana Milky saw her. “What a lovely lady,” the old woman said when Zoe approached the kitchen. Zoe smiled and was grateful for the old lady’s words. “Thank you, Nana.” Nana smiled at her and gestured for her to take a seat. “Coffee or milk?” Zoe’s eyes slightly widened when she realized. She stood up. “Oh, Nana, I am sorry. I can handle it —” “Oops. Sit down.” Nana gave her an authoritative look. “But—” “No, buts. Just tell me what you want, dear,” Nana said. Zoe knew that she couldn’t change the old lady’s mind, so she just told her what she wanted. After a few minutes, she thought of something—more of someone. “Where’s—” “You might be wondering, dear. However, Helios had already left for work,” Nana said, and she seemed to read what was inside Zoe’s mind. Zoe gulped, bit her lower lip, and nodded. Nana looked at her with a teasing smile visible on her lips. “Nana, it’s not what you think.” Nana shrugged and nodded. Zoe’s shoulders fell in disbelief, but she still continued to eat the meal Nana served. And after a few moments, she stood up. She grabbed her plate and cup and was about to walk toward the sink when Nana stopped her. “Leave it there, and the driver is waiting for you,” Nana said. Zoe was surprised, but she knew she couldn’t oppose the lady. So, she left and went back to her
room to cleanse her teeth. After that, off she goes. While sitting in the car, she then realizes that she must not let Helios spend her living. She needs to make it on her own. Later, she will talk with her mother. She sighed and looked past through the window to calm her thoughts. Suddenly, she looked down at herself, at what she wore. It was black trousers, paired with white Chanel Sastre polo and open-toe Dior heels. She paired it also with a black saddlebag. But all of it came from Helios. So, it shouts luxury. She doesn’t want to wear them, but she has no choice—all she needs to do is to choose the simple attire for her. Minutes later, the car stopped in front of the building, and Zoe was a little bit anxious. It’s her first day anyway. “Ma’am, we’re here,” the driver asserted, and he was standing on the side. ‘Oh, thank God, the men in black are not present,’ she thought. Well, she talked to Helios about it. “Uhm… thanks,” she said and climbed into the car. She wandered her eyes around. She took a deep breath and sighed to calm herself—not letting anxiety take over. “You got this, Zoe,” she whispered and started to walk towards the entrance. “Good day, Miss. I.D, please.” Zoe’s eyes widened. “I apologize, but I don’t have one… yet. I am Mr. Lincoln’s secretary,” she replied and managed not to stutter. The two guards looked at each other. One of them smiled mockingly. “Mr. Lincoln never hires—” “I’m sorry for cutting you off, but you can call him and tell Zoe Levine is here. Thank you,” she said politely. Rendering the two speechless. One guard then went to his post and grabbed a telephone. While waiting, Zoe bit her lower lip and started to scan the place once again. Still, she couldn’t believe she was entering the world of tycoons.
Well, luck has been on her side since she met Helios. Also unfortunate because she seems to hurt him. “We’re sorry, ma’am. You can enter now. Top floor, please,” the man said, making Zoe smile, and even her thought told them… “See. I told you.”Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
