Talented Heiress: A Rose With Thorns

Chapter 867

"Did you receive the gift, Yvie?" Xavier's deep, steady voice came through as Yvette answered the call, pushing Wilson's hands away with a glare.

"I did," she replied, her lips curling into a soft smile. "Thank you, Xavier. It's beautiful."

"As long as you like it," Xavier responded, his tone warm and calm.noveldrama

Just as Yvette opened her mouth to say more, Wilson's hand slid to her waist, giving a teasing squeeze at just the right spot. She sucked in a breath, her body betraying her with a small shiver.

"Stop it," she hissed under her breath, shooting him a sharp look.

Wilson, the picture of innocence, raised his brows. "Sorry, baby. My hand slipped."

Xavier's voice came through again, now slightly more measured, as if he'd caught the undercurrent of tension. "Yvie, there's something I need to tell you."

She glared at Wilson one last time before focusing on the call. "Go ahead."

Wilson, deciding he'd pushed enough for now, focused on gently massaging her waist, though his dark eyes stayed on her intently.

"Mr. Maximillian has discovered the ballistic missile that Shadow Alliance sent me. He's already found out about your relationship with Wilson."

Yvette blinked her big eyes, surprised for only a moment before her expression settled into calm indifference. "It's alright. He was going to find out eventually. I planned to introduce them soon anyway."

Hearing her nonchalant tone, Xavier's gaze darkened further, and his hands subconsciously clenched into fists. He could tell that Yvette was dead set on introducing Wilson to Theodore.

"Xavier, let Mr. Maximillian know that I'll be bringing Wilson to meet him soon."

Xavier's grip on the phone tightened. His voice grew heavier as he said, "Are you sure about this? Yvie, a lifetime is a long time. What if there's someone better out there for you? There's no need to rush."

He didn't bother to lower his voice, ensuring Wilson could hear every word. As expected, Wilson's expression darkened instantly, his sharp features hardening. The air around him seemed to chill as his jaw tightened, and an almost palpable tension filled the room.

But before Wilson could react, Yvette's next words sent a wave of warmth through him, banishing his anger in an instant.

"There isn't anyone better," she said simply, her voice unwavering. "Even if there was, I'd still choose him."

Her tone was casual, but the certainty in her words was unmistakable. It wasn't a declaration—it was a fact.

Xavier felt like the ground had been yanked out from under him. His chest ached, the pain sharp and relentless. For years, he'd stayed by her side, hoping she'd see him in a different light. And yet, Wilson had stepped in to claim her heart completely.

Xavier couldn't understand why Yvette wouldn't give him a chance.

The line went dead abruptly. Yvette frowned at her phone in confusion. Xavier had never hung up on her before. Still, she shrugged it off and slipped the phone into her pocket, her attention shifting back to Wilson.

Her expression lightened as she arched a brow, her voice teasing. "Soon, I'll be

introducing you to Mr. Maximillian. Are you nervous?"

Wilson leaned back slightly, his lips curving into a relaxed smile. "Yeah. I'm terrified."

Wilson was in an exceptionally good mood, his gaze on Yvette filled with indulgent affection as he spoke in an unhurried tone.

"Baby, what if he doesn't like me?"

Yvette clicked her tongue lightly. There he was again with his oh-so-familiar faux sweet talk!
