Chapter 11
Azaire POV
She looked gorgeous. The second she stepped out of her car and her scent entered the air my cock swelled. She caught me staring at her but I didn’t care. I’d never been a fan of red but damn, it looked amazing on her.
I imagined the satin falling off her curves in front of me. She was gone as quickly as she appeared. I wanted to turn and go after her like a man caught in a trance.
“Are you listening!” Megan snapped.
I blinked. “Yeah of course. Everything’s fine.”
“That’s not what I said, Azaire.”
I exhaled deeply. I was on a job where I couldn’t lose focus and mess up my work. I couldn’t lose focus because of Elaine. It already happened once. The first time was reasonable. She was drunk and could barely walk.
Now she was surrounded by her brothers and other members of her rotten pack.
“You know Alpha Laiken never takes his daughter to important events.”
“You want to gossip, Megan?” I grumbled.
I adjusted my shirt collar. If it weren’t for my Mom, I wouldn’t be wearing this thing. It was so restricting.
Megan sighed. “No, we were trained to believe that nothing our enemies did was a coincidence.”ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
This was the second person who believed Laiken was using his daughter to conspire against us. When I looked into her eyes I didn’t believe it. She was a teenager; she had dreams why would she be her Father’s pawn?
“Keep your eyes, pealed. I’m going inside,” Megan said and I nodded in response.
The night I took Elaine to my apartment the betas ransacked the mansion but supposedly didn’t find any wolf drugs. After that, our spies reported wolf enhancers being sold in Black Claw bars. It’s either we missed the exchange or someone in my army is lying.
I hated to admit it but I suspected Oliver. He gave me the report and insisted I didn’t speak to the others. You never want to suspect your own family so I needed more evidence.
“Looking for a babe? The one in the short black dress is hot,” Richmond said, drinking up the girl next to Elaine.
“Mom’s going to be really happy,” I smirked.
Rich frowned and looked over his shoulder. “She’s trying to marry me off. Cover me.”
My brother darted off. I shouldn’t have been in here but my wolf wanted our mate. She was breath-taking. Her smile melted my icy heart. Her laughter was infectious.
Alpha Neel slithered beside her and slammed her petite frame against his body. Elaine bit her bottom lip. Who the hell did he think he was? The woman beside Elaine showed disdain and despite Elaine’s discomfort Neel kept touching her.
He kept touching my mate!
He was too drunk to care that he looked like a fool. Why did anyone think he was a powerful Alpha? One drink and the fucker was fucked. I could blow in his face and he’d be out.
Elaine laughed softly at the guests staring at them. She pulled herself free and walked off with her head held high. She wouldn’t let anyone see her embarrassment. I on the other hand wanted everyone to watch me give Neel a black eye.
Down boy, I told my wolf.
I had a feeling where she was going. I found her just before she opened the bathroom on the second floor. I opened the door and shoved her inside.
“Hey!”
“It’s me.” I locked the door behind me.
“I could smell you a mile away. What if someone saw you?”
“Like Neel? I’ll break his face.”
Her eyes turned to saucers. I backed her into the wall and caged her between my chest and the floral tiles.
“Next time he gropes you like that I’ll rip his fingers off his hand one by one.”
Her breathing hiked but something in her eyes told me she wouldn’t mind.
“Your girlfriend won’t like that?”
I raised my brow. She turned away but her blushed cheeks got pinker.
“Megan?” I asked.
“I don’t know what your girlfriend’s name is,” she scowled.
I laughed. “Are you jealous, sweetheart?”
“No,” she frowned.
“I can smell it. It’s a nice scent on you.”
I leaned in and ran my nose down her neck. I stopped at her chest. She pressed her back into the wall and exhaled deeply. My rage boiled like a volcano about to erupt when I thought about Neel’s hands on her.
“Why?” I demanded.
“Why what?” She panted.
Her hand came around my back and smoothed my hair. This little she-wolf was a dangerous distraction. She made me want to strip her naked and devour her right there. I didn’t care who heard including her brothers.
“Why did he touch you? Why didn’t you tell him to fuck off?”
“Oh…” she stiffened.
Her sudden movement made me stop and straighten.
“Neel is technically my fiance.”
I felt like I’d been punched in the gut.
“Technically? What the hell is that supposed to mean?”
“It’s an arranged marriage. I don’t want him!” She yelled and panted heavily.
That’s why I saw Nik and Neel together at the bar. They’d formed an alliance. Oliver was right, Laiken was using his daughter to take us out but not in the way Oliver insinuated.
The game changed, Elaine was my mate now.
I couldn’t let Laiken use her. I couldn’t let the Black Claw pack take something else from me.
“Are you mad? I don’t have a choice.”
Her confession made it worse. My wolf was on the edge of my skin and it wanted Neel’s blood.
“Of course I’m pissed.”
I unlocked the door. I needed to get out of here, blow off some steam and think about my next move.
“You might want to stay in here until my scent wears off.”
Her shock melted into annoyance and frustration. I was starting to think I brought out the worst in Elaine but she didn’t understand. She was too young to remember when I lost my brother if she even knew. Laiken kept a lot from his pack.
I left my mate standing alone in the bathroom and marched off.
