Chapter 35
The Billionaire’s Ex-Wife (Her Ex-Husband’s Regret) Chapter 35
Kayden
Present time.
I slowly open my eyes, the harsh fluorescent lights of the hospital room blinding me for a moment before my vision adjusts.
“Good, you’re awake,” our family doctor, doctor Gordon, says to me. He raises a brow at me. “I don’t think I need to specify that shoulder surgeries can also be critical. It can lead to many complications like infections, or permanent nerve damage.”
“I know, I know,” I sigh, struggling to sit up before the doctor adjusts my bed.
“For now, we managed to close up the surgical wound. Do another stunt like what you just did, and you just might permanently damage some nerves there.”
“Okay, I get it.”
When the doctor left, I am also left alone with my thoughts.
Cassic.
I wonder if she’s okay now. I’m sure Sullivan couldn’t punch that strongly, so she’s just knocked out. I know unch was
meant for me, but still, I want to cripple Sullivan for causing her pain.
And Kai had to see his mother like that.
“Fuck it!”
Things had gotten out of hand. When I went to her hotel room, was sure I was doing the right thing. I would do anything to win her back. But then. I should have considered Kai’s feelings. He may be a genius, but he’s too young to understand adult drama.
NA test came f

When I first saw Kai, I was certain that he was mine. But Sullivan’s DNA day. He is Kai’s father.
“Damn it! Kai isn’t mine!
til I met him, I didn’t realize that I’m ready to be a father, and how much I wanted it until I met and held Kai in my arms. When I saw the DNA test results, I must admit that it broke my heart.
But maybe in a way, I am a bit relieved. If Kai was indeed my son, then that would mean Cassie was already pregnant when I asked her for a divorce when I chose to keep my promise to Megan. If Cassie was pregnant at the time of the fire, then it would mean that she was pregnant with my child and yet I chose to carry Megan out of that burning house.
“What a terrible husband… no… a terrible person am I?”
How could I expect Cassie to forgive me when I won’t even forgive myself?
Tears roll down my cheeks. I rarely cry, but now, I just can’t help myself. I have so many things I need to make up for to Cassie. And if I’ll be given a chance, I will spend the rest of my life, making her forget what a monster I have been to her. Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.
The door opens, and I wipe the tears quickly. Megan walks inside the room.

“Good, you’re still alive!” she rolls her eyes sarcastically.
As she takes a step closer, I cannot help but remember what she did to me and to Cassie. Now that I know that she isn’t the one who saved me when I was a boy, I begin to see her in a different light.
“Why are you here?” I ask.
“What do you mean why am I here?” she asks back. “You mean right after
‘Date
you left me in the middle of our date?”
Oh, right! I took her out on a date because I was feeling guilty that I neglected her. I thought that maybe we just needed to reconnect and things will go back to how they should be.
But some things were off with her. She doesn’t know how to swim, and she doesn’t even remember the playhouse. I suspected that she lied about saving me. I guess she was the sister that ran and decided to leave me for dead. And Cassie was the sister who braved the deep waters to save my life. And yet, Megan was the one I treated well, and Cassie was the one I treated like shit!
“I told the manager to make sure you get home safely,” I say.
“But you left me there alone, and where were you? You were with your ex-wife! Tell me! Why were you together?” She is livid.
But then again, so am I. Now that I see her for who she really is, can barely tolerate her tantrums.
“Before I answer your question, perhaps, you can show me my mother’s ring
Her eyes widen in surprise. “Wh-why do you need to see it?”
“Technically, it’s mine. My mother gave it to me me. I have the night to take it anytime I want.”
“Are you taking it back?”
“I just want to see it.”
Reluctantly, she takes off the ring and gives it to me, her hand trembling.
I stare at the ring. This one seems lighter. I’m pretty sure it’s made of silver or white gold. My mother’s ring was platinum. I raise it to my eye level so I can study the inside. And just as I suspected, it’s blank. There is no inscription.
“Wh-what’s wrong?” Megan asks nervously.
I put the ring on my palm and hand it to her. “You can take this. It’s not mine.”
Her eyes widen. She takes the ring from me. “What do you mean it’s not yours?”
“Seriously! She’s going to play innocent?
“Tin saying you’ve been lying to me since we were kids, Megan. That mother’s at all. It’s a fake.”
She stares at me nervously. “Okay, you caught me

“I know how important that rings was to you. Back in college, I lost somebody stole the ring from me. But I didn’t want you to get mad, so… I asked my mother to find a replacement. I’m sorry, Kayden.” She approaches me, sporting a puppy face. She reaches for my hand and gives it a squeeze. “Please! I will make it up to you. I didn’t mean to lose your ring and replace it with a fake one.”
“Really? You’re still not going to admit to it?”
“What else do you want me to admit? I already apologized for the ring!”
I pull my hand away, “You’re a lying. scheming impostor! I already know the truth! You’re not the one who saved me in the
lake.”
“Kayden, who told you that? Did Cassie tell you that? Because that bitch is the biggest scheming liar on the face of the planet!”
That statement irritates me more. I now see how cruel she was to Cassie. “You have no right to talk about my wife like that!”
“Wife?”
I nod. “Cassic has always been the one that I wanted to marry. She was the one who saved me from drowning. You ran away and didn’t even tell anyone that we were trapped in the shed!”
“You don’t have proof of that!”
“Really? Why don’t we go back to the lake house now, and you go jump into the water. I’d like to see what a strong swimmer you are! Because the girl who saved me said that she wanted to be a mermaid. But you..” I shake my head in disbelief. “You can’t even swim, can you?”
Megan purses her lips, unable to say anything.
“That ring has an inscription. My mother had it engraved there. Only the real person I gave it to will know what that inscription means. Can you tell me what it is?”
Silence.
I heave a frustrated sigh. “Why, Megan? What have I done to you? Why did you lie to me?”
Tears run down her cheeks. “At first, it was just my mother. She wanted to get the reward from

Dad.”
“Then later, I see that it was the only way for me to get close to you. You won’t even look at me twice until you found out that I was the one who saved you.”
Megan’s voice cracks as she struggles to explain herself, “Kayden, I promise, I’ve always wanted to tell you. But I just didn’t know how. I’m sorry. But whether I was the one who saved you or not shouldn’t matter, right? Because we’ve known each other for years. And all those years, it was me who is with you. Not Cassie. You’ve gotten to know me for who I really am. It was me that you loved. Not her.”
“That was it, Megan. I trusted you! I built my world around the fact that you were the one I promised to take care of for the rest of my life… because I owed you my life!”
“Is that all? In all our time together, did you not even fall for me at all? For ME! Not for the girl who saved your life all those years ago!”
Hlook at her now, and I feel nothing for her. Maybe only a sense of loathing. Over the years, without the privilege of being

my savior, I remember Megan as a spoiled prima donna who is used to getting everything she wants.
“Come on, Kayden! Tell me! What did you really think of ME? Didn’t you love ME at all?” Megan’s tears flow freely, her guilt and deception lay bare before me.
“Don’t ask me questions you will not like the answers to,” I say bluntly.
“Damn you, Kayden! And what now? Will you go after Cassie? Because she’s the one who saved you? Don’t our time together ever make you fall in love with me at all??
I close my eyes for a moment. “I was in love with the girl who saved me. When I married Cassie I think I was in love with my wife. And yet… I chose to ignore my feelings for her. I lost her. And that would be my punishment for being so foolish.”
“But Kayden, can’t you even try? Try to love me! Try to see me for who I really am!”
I give her a rueful smile. “That’s the problem, Megan. I don’t think it’s ever going to work out between us.”
“But why?”
“Because believe it or not. I actually see you for who really are now.” There! I said it. As painful as it may be, she needs to hear the truth. It’s over between us. She need to stop pretending to be somebody else. And I need to stop pretending that she is the one I can be happy with. “Goodbye, Megan. Please close the door when you leave.”
