Chapter 1723
She shot the question right back at him, her gaze steady, not a hint of hesitation. Aurora never saw the point in dodging anything with Craig-not anymore.
After all, she wasn't the one at fault when they split up.
Craig hadn't expected her to turn the tables like that, so he just stood there, awkward and silent.
If his secretary saw him like this, she'd probably be floored. Normally, Craig was the strong, silent type. He'd rather eat cold leftovers for a week than waste words on small talk. He had a handsome face, that was for sure, but he always seemed distant, almost chilly.
But now, he just looked lost.
"Did you get the tire changed?" Aurora finally asked, her voice cool, making it clear she didn't want to draw this out any longer. "Thanks. How much do I owe you for swapping the spare? I'll Venmo you."
"Aurora, I just... I came because I was worried about you." Craig tried.
"Well," she shrugged, "you don't have to worry. I'm fine."
He fell silent again.noveldrama
Aurora pulled out her phone and sent him a thousand bucks on WhatsApp, then looked up. "Thanks for coming out. Normally, changing a tire costs, what, a hundred? But it's pouring, you drove out here in a Mercedes, probably burned a ton of gas, so I sent you a thousand. That should cover it."
Her tone was as detached as if she were talking to a stranger at a Jiffy Lube. Aurora was always like this...
She didn't give Craig even half a chance.
For a guy who was never good with words, it was hopeless.
"I—"
"Craig, we're divorced. I'd appreciate it if you remembered that."
Her words snuffed out whatever light had been left in his eyes.
That was it.
They were divorced.
Aurora didn't bother to look at his face. She just deleted his chat, started her car, and drove off.
Craig watched her tail lights fade away until they vanished in the rain. His grip loosened, and the umbrella he'd been holding caught the wind and tumbled down the empty street.
He stood there alone as the rain soaked through his shirt, clinging to his skin.
He knew he deserved it.
He'd had her once, and didn't take care of her the way he should have. Now, this was the price he paid.
He had it coming.
By the time Miles picked up Felicity, she was so pale from throwing up she looked almost translucent.
She tried to play it cool, but it was obvious she had nothing left in the tank. "Langston..." she mumbled.
Miles didn't hesitate. He scooped her up and carried her to the car, bridal style.
He'd brought the SUV, not his usual sports car, so she could lie down for the ride home.
"We're going straight to the hospital," he said, his tone brooking no argument.
To him, nothing mattered more than Felicity's health.
Miles had considered taking her to his mom's house-maybe she'd know some home remedy, or at least figure out if Felicity really was pregnant. But seeing how miserable Felicity looked, he figured a doctor was the best call.
"Langston, I'm really fine..." Felicity protested weakly. "We've already been to the ER, run every test they said¶m okay. I just don't want to go back. Please?"
She'd developed a serious aversion to hospitals-the smell of antiseptic alone made her queasy.
"But you're not feeling well."
He reached out to check her forehead, only for her to grab his wrist.
“Langston, I just want to go home, take a hot bath, and get some sleep. That's all I need."
She looked so worn out and pitiful, Miles felt his resolve crumble.
"Alright," he said gently. "But I'm calling the family doctor. She can come over, and if you feel worse, she'll be there."
Felicity managed a tiny, grateful smile as she sank back into the seat, finally able to relax.
What do you think?
