Every Bit
Anders brought his car to a slow halt opposite Veil’s house and reclined his chair to wait. It was getting pretty dark, but she wasn’t home yet, as the lights on her porch were off.
“I still don’t know what I’m doing here,” Anders muttered to himself as he closed his eyes, counting one to a hundred in his head. His phone rang, but he ignored it. Kingston group contracts could wait for a few hours.
He must have fallen asleep at some point, because the next time he opened his eyes, there was another car parked directly on Veil’s driveway, like it had every right to be there. His eyes ran over the plates, not recognizing it from anywhere.
It was the latest model of the Bugatti Mistral. Anders could tell because he had one of those parked in his garage. It was worth 9. 3 million dollars and only the wealthiest could afford it.
This piqued Anders’ curiosity.
Moving his gaze from the car, he checked the lawn for the rider. He wasn’t sure if he had gotten out of the car, but the engine had been turned off already. Coming up empty, Anders was about to make the short trip across the road himself when his eyes zeroed in on a figure sitting by the steps leading to the porch.
Although Anders couldn’t see his face clearly because the street lights didn’t reflect to that point, he had a strong feeling he knew who it was. It was probably the hair, but then again, a lot of people had the same haircut in Mexico.
The person got off the steps and moved to his car, retrieving something from it. He was closer to the lights now, and Anders’ suspicions were confirmed.
“What the fuck is he doing here?”
Anders repressed the urge to get out of his car to get an answer to his question. Veil had already told him that Orleans wasn’t her boyfriend, but it was clearly headed that way if he didn’t do anything about it.
And the last thing he would watch is someone else putting a claim to the woman he wanted.
A lot of thoughts ran through Anders’ head as he sat there like a hawk, watching Orleans. He toyed with the idea of adding a new contract clause that his secretary was prohibited from seeing anyone throughout her stay in Kingston group. That was sure to scare her away, wasn’t it?
And there was that fucker, Simon, in the office, who kept gazing at her longingly. Anders would have sacked him on the spot if he hadn’t remembered all of Simon’s qualifications. But that didn’t mean he had the right to look at something he wanted for himself.
Anders noted that Orleans made no move to leave as he returned to the porch. His phone rang again, and in annoyance, Anders received the call and said in a harsh tone, “Speak.”
“I found Master Orleans,” the voice said curtly, cutting to the chase. “It wasn’t a hard find. He is the President of JK corporations.”
A loud silence rang in Anders’ ears as he tried to take in what he had just heard. “The same JK?”
“Yes sir. The same one you’re in a partnership with over the pharmaceutical matters.”
Anders looked out his window again, seeing Orleans in a whole different light. Usually, he wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize the company’s relationship with other corporations. But Anders didn’t think he was interested in letting this be.
Orleans was a strong contender, even though Anders had no clue what they were contending for in the first place. Maybe Orleans knew, but as for Anders, Veil’s response to him at the club months ago was the only element needed to pique his interest.
That, and the fact that she looked so beautiful, that it was almost ethereal.
Ending the call without saying anything else, Anders made to open the door of his car, but at the exact moment, he saw Veil approaching slowly in the distance. She hadn’t seen his car yet, and he doubted she would.
Veil looked so distracted and drained that she barely took note of her surroundings. It made Anders wish he could do something about it, but with the wall he had built from the day she started working for him, Veil wouldn’t want to disclose a thing.
At least, not yet.
He watched Orleans get off the steps again and approach Veil carefully. Half of him thought they would talk out there, and bid each other a wonderful night. But when Veil walked up to the porch and opened her doors to usher Orleans in, Anders wasn’t sure he could take any of that.
His knuckles almost turned white from the amount of pressure he kept on them as he watched them disappear behind the door. In a second, the lights on the porch came on, but all Anders could see were shadows behind the curtains. They soon became nonexistent, leaving Anders to himself out in the night.
Every bone in Anders shook with anger, but rather than confront the situation, he turned on his engine, and stepped on the gas, driving away from Veil’s house. He couldn’t seem to get the image of Veil welcoming Orleans into her house out of his head, and it only made him madder.
Red flashed in his eyes as he drove on the highway at an impossible speed, but he still wouldn’t slow down. He needed to feel something other than anger, and even if the ride wasn’t totally suppressing his emotions, it was a good distraction. All content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
When he finally made the decision to go home, it was already 1 AM and he had imagined every possible scenario of what could have been going on in Veil’s house. Fighting the urge to return there, he pulled up on his driveway, tossed the keys to one of his bodyguards, and went straight for a shower.
As the warm water hit his flesh, he knew he had to make Veil feel every bit of what she had made him feel that night.
