Chapter 48
Chapter 48
In the evening, as usual, Cordelia hit the sack in the bedroom next door after getting home.
Ronan didn't beckon her to his bedroom.
Come Saturday morning, when Cordelia woke up, it was already past 10 am.
She was still half asleep. After heading downstairs, she saw Ronan and Barney chit-chatting at the
dining table.
She didn't have a clue what time they had breakfast or how long they'd been chatting.
Cordelia was so hungry her stomach was growling.
Ronan threw her a glance and carried on yakking with Barney.
"Ma'am, are you planning on breakfast or lunch?" Janice joked as she saw Cordelia come downstairs.
"Um, just whip up anything for me to munch on, Janice. Thanks." Cordelia was accustomed to doing
things herself since she was a kid, so she was not quite used to this cushy life. She always felt like she
was putting others out and felt guilty, so her words were always filled with gratitude.
"Sure thing, I've rustled up some spaghetti bolognese for you. It'll be ready in no time.”
"Della, got any plans for today?" Barney asked Cordelia.
Barney's tone with Cordelia was different from when he spoke with Ronan. It was like he was talking to
a kid.
Cordelia turned to Ronan, "I visit my mom every Saturday. I'd like to do so this week too. Is that okay
with you?"
Ever since Adrian Haselwood blackmailed Ronan, he was in the loop about what was happening at
home. So she just laid it out there instead of making up excuses every time she wanted to visit her
mom.
"Go ahead." Ronan said.
"Della's mom is sick? And you're not visiting as the son-in-law?" Barney seemed surprised. "That's not
how we, the Evans family, act."
Cordelia was taken aback. She was happy enough with Ronan agreeing to let her go. She never
expected him to go with her. Or rather, she always knew deep down that their marriage was a sham, so
she never thought of asking Ronan to visit her mom.
"Alright." Ronan agreed without a moment's hesitation.
Cordelia felt a bit uneasy. She couldn't put her finger on it, but she wasn't exactly thrilled.
Janice served up the spaghetti bolognese, pulling Cordelia out of her thoughts. There was an egg in it.
Cordelia had been allergic to egg yolk since she was a kid. Eating it would make her nauseous and
throw up.
Eggs were usually for breakfast. But since she had breakfast with Ronan and Barney, no one would
notice even if she didn't have eggs. She never told Janice about her allergy because she didn't want to
be a pain in the ass.
Cordelia started eating. She finished the spaghetti, leaving only the egg in the bowl.
She originally planned to toss the egg when she washed the dishes. Even though she knew wasting
food wasn't right, she really couldn't eat egg yolk.
"Aren't you eating the yolk? Give it to me." Ronan suddenly said.
"Huh?" Like seeing a lifesaver, Cordelia looked up blankly.
"You don't like the yolk, do you? Give it to me." Ronan repeated with a poker face.
It took Cordelia a while to realize her secret was spilled by Logan's diary.
In Logan's diary, there was a time when Cordelia accidentally ate yolk and got sick. Logan took care of
her for a long time.
Apparently, not only did he check Logan's computer, he even read this.
She couldn't read Ronan's expression. She didn't know whether he really cared for her or was just
messing with her.
"Where do you want me to put the yolk?" Cordelia asked.
He had already finished his breakfast and there were no dishes in front of him.
"Just hand it to me." He said naturally.
Cordelia hesitated. Despite their intimacy in bed, this level of flirtation on sharing food was something
they'd never had.
Cordelia carefully held the yolk with one hand while supporting it with the other, fearing it would fall.
She fed it to Ronan. Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
Then she went back to eating, her heart pounding. She heard Ronan say, "Grandpa, please go on."
She tuned out their conversation. All she could think about was the intimate moment she just had with
Ronan.
