The Day Our Promise Breaks

Chapter 388

"Where's the evidence?" Evelyn was the most on edge among the three. The moment she saw Wesley, she couldn't help but stride forward. She had been waiting for this moment for what felt like an eternity.

Wesley reached into his pocket and handed her the evidence. Evelyn clutched it tightly, tears brimming in her eyes. Slowly, she turned her gaze, burning with anger, toward Dahlia, then shifted to Charles, her voice icy and firm, "Charles, don't forget what you said at Charlie's grave."

"I stand by my word. If Wesley's claims against Dahlia are true, I won't cover it up," Charles replied, though his eyes were fixed on Dahlia. She lay on the hospital bed, looking frail and pale after her recent suicide attempt. Despite her weakened state, Dahlia met his gaze head-on, showing no sign of guilt or panic-just a raw sense of being wronged.

Charles' expression darkened as Evelyn began to play the recording. It was an audio clip. Without hesitation, she pressed play.

"Wesley, you know what would've happened to you today if I hadn't whisked you away."

"You know what I want. Take a day to mull it over and see what you can offer to keep my help."

"If not, I've got no reason to protect you anymore."

"Think it over and call me."

This was Dahlia's ploy, framing Wesley for assault when she brought him back to the Brooks estate and spoke these words. Initially, Evelyn thought Wesley had brought the wrong evidence. She quickly turned to him and asked, "Where's the evidence against Dahlia?"

"Ms. Evelyn, there is no evidence," Wesley replied, locking eyes with her.

Those words made Evelyn's face fall as she realized something was wrong. It wasn't an accident-Wesley had done it on purpose. Her eyes darted to Dahlia on the bed, just catching a fleeting, smug smile.

It was Dahlia pulling the strings.

Fighting back the surge of emotions, Evelyn tried to keep her cool, "Did Dahlia threaten you?"

"What threat? You know there never was any evidence. How could Dahlia possibly threaten me?" Wesley replied, flat-out denying it.

"Ms. Evelyn, have you told these lies so often that you've started believing them yourself?" Wesley continued "Remember? You were the one who concocted the story about Dahlia stealing your daughter's kidney and causing her death. You even claimed she silenced witnesses to cover it up." swnovelnoveldrama

"You hate Dahlia and Mr. Jenkins. You think they're to blame for your daughter's death."

"Ms. Evelyn, I know about the kidney drama with Charlie two years ago. Dahlia and Mr. Jenkins messed up, but they don't deserve to die for it."

"Two years ago, you stabbed Mr. Jenkins, nearly ending him. And Dahlia? You pushed her off a

"You know your daughter's death was an accident. Are you really ready to have blood on your hands over an accident?"

"If Dahlia had died last night, an innocent life lost because of you, wouldn't you be haunted by nightmares every night?"

"Ms. Evelyn, let it end here. Let Dahlia and Mr. Jenkins go, and free yourself as well."
