Chapter 469
Dahlia was putting on quite the performance, tears pouring down her cheeks. She was desperately trying to rekindle Charles's feelings by reminiscing about their past, convinced that at some point, Charles must have cared for her. After all, how could such an incredible man base his entire life decision on just six months with a little five-year-old girl?
Noticing that Charles hadn't interrupted her, Dahlia felt even more assured in her belief. Her sobs grew more intense as she laid her emotions bare before him. "Day in and day out, I wanted so badly to tell you. But when faced with someone as amazing as you, I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I kept promising myself that once the real Debbie showed up, I'd return her identity to her..."
"Heh."
Dahlia's speech was cut short by Josephine's cold, mocking laugh. From afar, Josephine shot her a frosty glare. This woman really knew no bounds. Dahlia was momentarily at a loss. She was so engrossed in getting Charles to believe her feelings and reignite his emotions that she completely overlooked the presence of this old crone.
Josephine didn't give her a chance to gather her thoughts, her voice icy as she spoke, "Dahlia, do you ever speak the truth?"
"Addicted to your own drama, aren't you? Claiming you remind yourself daily to return the identity when the real Debbie appears..."
"Remember the day I found the locket, and you learned from me that Eve was the real Debbie? What did you do? You shoved me down the stairs, trying to shut me up!"
As Josephine's words sunk in, the chill surrounding Charles seemed to deepen. Dahlia swallowed nervously, shaking her head in frantic defense, "Charles, I didn't... I admit I lied about being Debbie."
"But Ms. Josephine isn't telling the truth. You know how guilty I feel about Evelyn. How could I ever hurt her mother? Ms. Josephine is just slandering me."
In her panic, Dahlia flung herself from the wheelchair, disregarding everything. She still had a distance to cover before reaching Charles. She crawled, tears streaming, pleading her case at his feet.
"Charles, I was the one who called for help that day to save Ms. Josephine. There are so many witnesses. If I had pushed her, why would I have called for help?"
She hoped her pitiful state and tearful pleas would soften Charles's heart and make him believe her. They shared years of history.
Whereas Charles had only kinet
Josephine for six short months.
Surely, he would side with her.
Dahlia was sure of it. With every ounce of Strength, she finally reached Charles's feet. She lifted her tear-streaked face, looking up at him with a pitiful expression. "Charles, you believe me, don't you?
As she spoke she cautiously reached for the hem of Charles's trousers, hoping to pull herself up and fall into his arms, continuing her mission to win him over. Charles always fell for this act. As long as she cried and appeared vulnerable, he couldn't help but feel sorry for her and protect her.
But just as her fingers brushed his pant leg, Charles lifted his foot and delivered a harsh kick, sending her sprawling.noveldrama
