The Day Our Promise Breaks

Chapter 520

That day, Wesley claimed he had evidence that Dahlia had hired someone to commit murder. Reflecting on that day's events, it seemed Wesley really had something substantial-proof he intended to use to expose Dahlia. But later, in Dahlia's hospital room, Wesley suddenly changed his story, claiming there was no evidence and that Eve had paid someone off to falsely accuse Dahlia. It was all very confusing. Why the sudden change?

Charles remembered the first time he stumbled upon Wesley and Dahlia at Greenrose. Dahlia accused Wesley of coercing her. Wesley denied it vehemently and, trying to take Sandy away, exposed Dahlia's abuse of her. He insisted that Sandy couldn't stay with Dahlia because she'd harm her. Charles recalled the genuine affection in Wesley's eyes when he spoke about Sandy.

After leaving Eve today, Charles replayed everything that had happened. Wesley's disappointment in Dahlia and his desire to expose her crimes were all driven by his wish to take Sandy away. So, why the sudden about-face? Why would he be willing to take the fall for Dahlia? It could only be because of Sandy. Sandy was Wesley's Achilles' heel.

Today, Charles was there to cut a deal with Wesley. The car pulled up at the prison gates. The guard at the entrance respectfully addressed Charles, "Mr. Jenkins, we've located Wesley, but he refuses to see anyone." Forcing Wesley out wasn't an option, and Charles had anticipated this. "Give him the phone. I have something to tell him."

Instead of having Wesley dragged out, Charles had the guard deliver a phone to him. Letting Wesley take the call in front of the guards wouldn't complicate their duties. The guard promptly went inside and handed the phone to Wesley. Hearing the guard hand the phone to Wesley, Charles, after confirming Wesley was listening, said directly, "Wesley, come out and see me immediately, or Sandy won't have a single good day."

"Charles, how dare you!" Wesley shouted, agitated at the mention of Sandy. Charles' single sentence confirmed his suspicions: Wesley's actions were all for Sandy. He had found Wesley's weak spot. "Wanna bet?" Charles coolly retorted and hung up the phone. Then, he waited.

It wasn't long before Wesley himself requested to be brought over, his hurried steps betraying his anxiety. The moment he saw Charles, he rushed over, only to be held back by a guard who warned him, "Calm down!" Wesley was seated in a chair opposite Charles.

"Mr. Jenkins wants to speak

privately with Wesley. I'll stay here and keep an eye on things, alright? Aiden, standing by the guard, indicated a spot. Wesley remained within view but out of earshot. The guard had no objections. Once they stepped aside, Charles didn't speak immediately; he simply regarded Wesley coldly.

In terms of keeping his cool, Wesley was no match for Charles. Driven by affection and anxiety, Wesley broke the silence first, "What did you mean by what you just said?" Didn't Charles care for Sandy, treating her like his own? Wesley's love for Sandy was obvious, and he could see that Charles genuinely cared for her too. So why the sudden change?

"Wesley, I've seen through Dahlia. I know you have evidence of her hiringnoveldrama

someone to murder John." "Give me the evidence, and I can look after Sandy until you're out." Charles only mentioned looking after Sandy, without elaborating on how.

Wesley, having seen how Charles cared for Sandy-treating her like a little princess and giving her the best of everything-assumed it meant the same level of care. He didn't realize that sending her to the worst boarding school and neglecting her, as long as she was fed, was also a form of care until Wesley's release. This kind of care could easily exchange for the evidence Wesley held.

Upon hearing Charles mention Dahlia hiring a killer again, Wesley's eyes flickered slightly. His reaction further convinced Charles that he truly had the evidence. Wesley pressed his lips together, neither denying the evidence nor agreeing to the proposal. He silently lowered his eyes, weighing his options.

Inside, he didn't know what was happening outside. But seeing Charles come to him for evidence suggested he truly saw through Dahlia's façade and wouldn't trust her again. If so, Charles wouldn't continue caring for his daughter because of Dahlia. There was even a chance he might take it out on Sandy.

Everything Wesley did was for Sandy. If Dahlia couldn't rely on Charles and had offended him, Sandy staying with her would only make things worse. But how could he be sure Charles would truly care for Sandy? Wesley was torn, caught in an internal struggle. To trust Charles or not?
