The Day Our Promise Breaks

When Evelyn realized something was wrong, it was already too late.

She stared at Aaron in utter disbelief.

She never imagined that someone Brooks considered a friend would drug her.

This was her first time meeting Aaron; Evelyn couldn't fathom why he would do this to her.

She staggered to her feet, but her body felt weak and unsteady. The world spun around her, and she collapsed back onto the plush sofa.

"Relax. I know she means everything to you. The drug is safe. As long as you give her the antidote, she'll be fine. It won't harm her at all."

At that, Brooks realized exactly what Aaron had done.

Fury surged through him. Without thinking, he punched Aaron hard across the jaw.
