Chapter 26: Unexpected visitor
Hearing the sound of the door, Adams walks into the living room, and glances around suspiciously for a long moment. Turning around to leave when Alexandra enters back into the house, she jumps, meeting his cold eyes.
"You're there" she whispers, wishing she could smack herself for using such an unstructured line.
"Yea. I heard the door open".
"I went out"
"For what? You are sick, you should be in bed resting"
"I was but then I started to feel suffocated so I went to get some fresh breeze"
"You should have told me, I would have come with you"
"That's precisely why I didn't tell you"
"What?"
"You will certainly disturb my thoughts and make me talk every second, is tiring"
Adams laughs. "I don't".
Alexandra rolls her eyes.
"By the way, where you the one the first time"
"I don't understand"
"I heard footsteps and I felt it was suspicious so I came to check but strangely I didn't see anyone" he chuckled
"You must have had a lot to drink"
"I didn't drink last night"
"Then try improving your hearing"
"Improving my hearing"
"Olivia's not at home and I was in my bedroom, just came down now so who did you hear?".
Adams ran his hand through his hair.
"Maybe I didn't hear right"
Alexandra smiles. "Anyway I will just be in my bedroom"
"Didn't you say it was suffocating up there?"
"I did however it's chilly outside"
Adam raises his brow, confused. "The weather is scorching hot, how come you are chilly?"
Alexandra scoffs, pissed off. "What's with the question?".
"Why are you pissed off? I was only asking to make sure you are alright"
"I'm alright" Alexandra snaps, trying to walk past him when he holds her hand.
"I'm sorry, I wasn't stating otherwise just wanted to make sure you are alright"
"I'm alright, I will just be in my bedroom" she runs up the stairs into her bedroom, exhaling deeply, relieved.
"That was so close"
She falls to the bed, tossing and turning around with a triumphant smile on her face, imagining the look on Olivia's face tomorrow when she meets her fate. Feeling her hand itching to play the violin, Alexandra pushes the thought aside hating to draw unnecessary attention.
"When will he leave?" She groans, almost frustrated, sitting up.
Alexandra wonders what Adam was still doing In her kitchen, she had only sent him to cook so he would take advantage of the opportunity and run but she hadn't expected him to put on an apron and start preparing her meal. Lost in thoughts, a soft knock comes on the door and Adams enters with the pack doctor causing Alexandra's eyes to widen.
"I heard someone's not feeling fine and refusing to come to see me"
Alexandra sits up and glances around trying to figure out what to do next.
"I know you said you don't need to see a doctor but I got worried. First, you feel suffocated and then chilly. I think you should let an expert examine you, you might be coming down with the flu or something"
"I don't want" she stands up
"Alexandra this isn't your first time coming to see me. You are not even scared of needles so what seems to be the problem?"
"There is no problem, I just don't need a doctor"
"What sort of sickness doesn't need a doctor? The doctor walks closer to her and touches her forehead, feeling her temperature. "Your temperature isn't high"
Alexandra quickly shoves his hand away, aware that he would expose that she was faking her sickness and that would ruin her plans.
"Please leave"
Bewildered, Adams and the pack doctor glances at each other.
"What do you mean?"
"Leave. Go. I don't need a doctor, my sort of sickness doesn't need a doctor, there
is absolutely nothing you can do for me so please leave"
Feeling humiliated and belittled, the pack doctor glares at Adams and leaves slamming the door.
"What the hell is wrong with you?"
"What the hell is wrong with me? What the hell is wrong with you? Doing things I didn't ask you to do, coming uninvited and now you invite a doctor to my house"
"What's wrong with that? What's wrong with helping you out?"noveldrama
"Did I ask for your help?"
"No"
"Did I tell you to bring that doctor over?"
"No"
"Are you trying to annoy me or maybe you have a motive for doing this"
"I didn't, what motive will I have? All I saw is a damsel in distress and all I wanted to do was to save her"
Alexandra laughs. "A damsel in distress. How many times have I told you that I don't need your petty act of chivalry, it doesn't move me and even if I'm sick I can take care of myself, and more importantly, I have a mate who should worry about me"
Hearing those words, Adam felt blow to his face, he had thought she would be thrilled but he doesn't realize that Alexandra isn't the same girl who loved him dearly yet he ruined her, tearing her heart out of her chest.
"I'm sorry, I was only trying to help"
"The problem with you is that you think you know it all. You think you know me and what I want but you don't Adam so before you do any other thing that you feel is right, I would like for you to leave"
"But lunch"
"Screw it, do you honestly think I will have the appetite to eat after what you just did. I won't"
"I'm sorry, do you need any other thing before I leave"
"I don't"
"Will you still meet up with me tomorrow?"
Alexandra's eyes soften. "Yes"
Adam smiles, her eyes assured her that he would get the desired answer.
"I will wait so please do not be late"
"Rest assured, I will be there"
Adam nods affirmatively, walking out and shutting the door, Alexandra flings the pillow, smirking, Adam and Olivia will be in for a big surprise tomorrow. She laughs sinisterly, her eyes dark.
What do you think?
