The True Lady Strikes Back novel (Cecilia and Christopher)

Chapter 246

Chapter 246

During Christopher’s time in the Peacekeeping Forces, they occasionally employed truth serum to

extract information from adversaries.

However, the serum proved to be less effective on outlaws with strong willpower.

Nevertheless, Christopher believed it could work on Jeffrey, given the latter’s fear of death.

Cecilia had indeed considered using truth serum on Jeffrey, but the bureaucratic process for approval

in Clusia was sluggish.

Additionally, individuals of higher status, such as Aiden, were obligated to set a stringent example and

adhere to the rules, making

unconventional methods challenging to pursue.

“Jeffrey is terrified of death. He doesn’t need a truth serum to compel him to speak the truth.”

Christopher believed in Cecilia’s judgment and made no further comment about it.

He donned the hospital gown and requested, “Ceci, can you arrange for the hospital to send Evan and

me back to the Shaw residence for our recovery?”

Being in the hospital meant he had to maintain the façade of illness constantly, restricting his actions.

In contrast, staying at the Shaw residence would afford him more freedom.

Besides, he had an essential task that required his personal attention.

Cecilia nodded and replied, “I’ll go has

check on Evan first. Hic. worsened. I’m not sure if he’s stable enough to be moved.”

“He was already protesting the last time he was moved back to the Shaw “He was already protesting

the last time h residence. I can imagine he will be even more vocal this time,” Cecilia thought.

“Alright, you go check on Evan first. If he isn’t fit to be moved, I’ll head back to the Shaw residence

first,” Christopher agreed.

“Alright. I won’t join you for breakfast today. Have the nurse fetch something for you later,” Cecilia said

as she rose from her seat.

With that, she proceeded to Evan’s ward.

Aiden, who had managed to get only three hours of sleep, was roused by

the creaking of the door.

He promptly rose and, upon seeing Cecilia, inquired, “Ceci, are you feeling better?”

“I’m alright. Why are you sleeping here, Aiden? Did something happen to Evan last night?”

“Evan is doing well. There’s an extra bed here, so I decided to take a nap here. Please have a seat. I’ll

freshen up and discuss something urgent with you in a moment,” Aiden explained.

Cecilia, upon observing Aiden’s solemn countenance, responded with an equally earnest nod. “Okay.”

Following Aiden’s departure to the bathroom, Cecilia promptly examined Evan’s physical condition.

By morning, Evan had significantly improved.

His prolonged unconsciousness was not due to a coma but rather a result of deep slumber.

The realization of this fact nearly compelled Cecilia to chuckle. “Evan, I must say, I’m quite impressed.”

Aiden emerged from the bathroom shortly thereafter. Upon noticing Cecilia’s chuckles, he inquired,

“What’s the matter? What has brought such joy to your face?”

“Evan is doing well. With a few more days of rest, he will make a full recovery.”

“I know. The doctor has conducted ward rounds early in the morning. Evan’s resilience is remarkable,

and he is recuperating swiftly. There’s no need to worry about him.”

Having spoken that, Aiden settled across from Cecilia and got straight to the point.

“Ceci, could you install a program on Charlie’s phone to ensure that his communication with us remains

concealed from ‘Wolf Killer?“”

If she could accomplish that, contacting Charlie in the future would be considerably more

straightforward.

Regrettably, Cecilia shook her head and replied, “Aiden, Charlie’s phone is under comprehensive

surveillance. Any deviation would trigger alarms, preventing the installation of the program.”

She managed to install the program on Jeffrey’s phone because he was a

shareholder and his phone escaped scrutiny.

“In that case, let’s abandon the plan. I’ll gather more information from Jeffrey promptly to prepare for NôvelDrama.Org owns all © content.

our infiltration into the ‘Wolf Killer.”

“Aiden, did Jeffrey say anything?”

Aiden didn’t respond to Cecilia. Instead, he stated, “Once Grandma wakes up, we shall discuss this

matter thoroughly back home.”

“Okay. Let’s have some breakfast first. There’s much work to attend to afterward.”

“Okay.”

The siblings proceeded to the hospital cafeteria. Following breakfast, they strolled through the garden

and encountered Charlie, who had just arrived at the hospital.

As Aiden gazed at Charlie, the emotions he had been suppressing were on the verge of overflowing.

In the end, he successfully reined in his emotions and greeted Charlie politely, “Zachary, what brings

you here so carly? Have you had breakfast yet?”

Charlie keenly perceived the emotions of heartache and guilt that Aiden harbored toward him.

“It appears Aiden might have learned something from Jeffrey,” Charlie thought.

Nevertheless, he pretended not to notice the emotions and explained, “Professor Farsons had no

family. With his passing, I am tasked with arranging for his cremation and sending his ashes back to his

hometown.”

Aiden discerned the underlying message in Charlie’s words and inquired, “When do you plan to

depart?”

“It hinges on the progress of the police investigation. I intend to arrange for Professor Farsons‘

cremation first. We cannot keep him in the morgue indefinitely,” Charlie replied.

“You should consult the police first to confirm that Professor Farsons‘ death was indeed accidental

before proceeding with the cremation,” Aiden advised.

“Okay, I will inquire about the results of the police investigation later. By the way, how is Mrs. Shaw?

Has the poison been completely eradicated?”

As Charlie spoke, he discreetly touched his ear, signaling that he posed this question on behalf of the

“Wolf Killer” shareholders.

Despite witnessing “Jeffrey’s” body, the shareholders remained skeptical. Charlie was uncertain

whether their doubt stemmed from a reluctance to believe or genuine suspicion.

Aiden shook his head. “Not yet, but her condition has stabilized.”

After these words, Aiden’s gaze turned piercing.

“Zachary, it’s highly likely that Jeffrey poisoned Grandma. Are you truly unaware of anything?”

“I genuinely don’t know anything about it. Despite being the CEO of biopharmaceutical companies, I

am not involved in drug research. The police investigation can confirm that.”

Aiden averted his gaze and remarked in a solemn tone, “With Jeffrey gone, I’m uncertain who else

possesses the ability to cure Grandma.”

In uttering these words, he subtly indicated to the “Wolf Killer” shareholders that they could send

another emissary for negotiation.

Yet, as long as anyone dared to come, he wouldn’t hesitate to eliminate them one after another.

“Fortune favors the kind–hearted. Mrs. Shaw will undoubtedly recover. I shall take my leave now,

Aiden.”

Following Charlie’s departure, Cecilia and Aiden made their way the inpatient building.

By then, Evan was awake.

back to

He had enjoyed a restful night’s sleep and was in high spirits that day.

However, when Cecilia suggested that he go home to continue his recovery, Evan immediately feigned

illness.

“Ceci, I’m in pain all over. I truly don’t want to move around,” he protested.

“Alright, Evan. You can continue resting in the hospital. I’ll arrange for Christopher’s discharge first,”

Cecilia replied.

“Where is Grandma How is her?”

“Grandma Elaine is doing well, but similar to your situation, she needs to stay in the hospital for a few

more days for observation,” Cecilia

explained.

“That’s wonderful. I’ll head home with Grandma then.”

Cecilia had no objections, so she arranged for someone to escort Christopher back to the Shaw

residence.

Meanwhile, she stayed by Elaine’s side while Aiden headed to the laboratory to meet Jeffrey.

After a night had elapsed, Jeffrey appeared even more haggard.

When he spotted Aiden, he clung to the latter as if he had found his savior.

“Please, give me some painkillers. I can’t bear being confined here any longer. I need a bed. I just want

to rest!”

His eyes were deeply sunken, a clear indication that he hadn’t slept a wink all night.

His internal injuries were severe, and his physical trauma was equally significant. It was undoubtedly

challenging for him to find any semblance of sleep.

Aiden nodded without hesitation. “I can agree to the conditions you mentioned, but what do you offer in

return?”
