Chapter 19
The voices belonged to Finlay and Analise. Since Scott stepped into the cell, Analise had awakened and only pretended to be asleep.
Now that they have brought up the main point, Analise decided to stop pretending.
"I was injured because of this..." Derek rolled his eyes at Finlay before shifting his gaze to Analise. "Ms. Chamber, thank you for calming me yesterday."
"You can thank me later. Get back to the main point first." Analise waved dismissively and got up from Finlay's furry body.
Meanwhile, Finlay shifted to his human form and stood beside Analise.
When Derek heard Analise's words, he decided to save his speech and recounted the main points, "A month ago, someone discovered traces of The Reclaimers on a lower-class planet.
"Commander Hopkins sent me on a secret mission to investigate their base so we could take them down in one go. When I arrived, I found out by accident that someone from Stormclaw Alliance was working with The Reclaimers.
"I followed them secretly—that's how I knew about this. Apparently, the materials used to make these robots aren't easy to find. So far, there are only five of them.
"I destroyed one of them. The other four might've been taken to the base of those working with The Reclaimers. At that time, there were many people there. I didn't want to alert them, so I kept following them secretly.
"When I reached Stormclaw Alliance's turf, I captured the traitor. The traitor and I were evenly matched in strength, but I never expected him to activate the robot to protect himself.
"For Stormclaw Alliance's safety, I had no choice but to destroy the robot. In the end, the traitor escaped."
Derek sighed before continuing, "Ms. Chamber, I'm not suspecting you. The reason I want to check your back is that I want to prove your innocence. After all, words prove nothing."
"Okay." Analise frowned for a moment before relaxing her brows. "But there are strangers here. At least, get me something to cover myself."
Derek pursed his lips. He said, "The interrogation room is enclosed. It's just that you'll need to bear with it."
Just as they were about to leave, the male munching on the dry grass approached the metal bars and asked, "Hey, Derek. That guy who worked with The Reclaimers is the youngest son of the Khielson family, right?"
Derek turned around and studied the male in the cell. His eyes widened as if he recognized the prisoner. "Are you Mark Sutton?"
"Yup. That's me." Mark spat out the dry grass and grabbed the hairs in front of his face to reveal his grimy face.
"Why are you-"
"Oh. Two weeks after you left, I killed that evil female. That's probably three months ago." Mark pinched his chin as he pondered the timeline.
Three months ago, Derek wasnoveldrama
ordered to purchase Astral Amber at Ethereal Fang Alliance's mining
planet. Ethereal Fang Alliance was located far from their place.
Even with the fastest starship, it would take around 20 days to reach the mining planet, making the round trip over a month.
Moreover, negotiating prices with Ethereal Fang Alliance was a part of purchasing Astral Amber. Hence, it took Derek around two months.
When Derek returned, he was instantly summoned to Hopkins Galaxy Lodge by Scott and dispatched to the lower-class planet to look into The Reclaimers' base.
However, Derek never expected to see his cheerful neighbor in the dungeon after being away for only three months. "You-"
Before Derek could continue, Mark explained, "Because my brother's dead. She beat him to death. My only brother is gone. She's amevil female, and she deserved to die."
Derek pursed his lips, his expression becoming grim.
"You could've gotten help from Hopkins Galaxy Lodge instead of killing the female." No one noticed the slight change in Scott's expression.
Mark scoffed, "Help? Once a male bonds with a female, he is hers for life. That
so-called help is nothing but a meaningless compromise.
"My brother's dead, but she was not given a single punishment. What kind of punishment is scolding? A
female might be important, but we shouldn't ignore the males
"An unmated male only needs to take care of his assigned guardian. He won't even be randomly abused.
"But once he's mated, it's no different from signing a lifelong slave contract-no freedom, constant abuse, and with no one to care even if he dies."
Analise asked, "Perhaps they can dissolve the bond? Just like humans hundreds
of years ago, they can get a divorce after getting married."
Suddenly, everyone's gaze fell on Analise. A silence hung in the air.
"That's impossible," said Scott without hesitation.
What do you think?
