When fate plays its hand

Chapter 693

Paul knew the password to her lock screen and mobile payment…

Paul replied in an indifferent tone without even sparing them a glance, “She told me.”

Sam and Hansel were both stunned to silence.

When Miranda woke up, it seemed to be daytime when she looked out the window. There was no sunshine, but it wasn’t raining either. The cold wind rustled the bare tree branches, which had no leaves left to shed.

She sat up, wrinkling her nose at the sharp scent of hospital disinfectant.

She looked at her injured ankle. It was now wrapped tightly in bandages, so she couldn’t see how bad it was. Miranda tried moving it gently. Fortunately, although it still hurt, it wasn’t as intense as before.

Winter came in with a thermos of warm water. She was shocked to see Miranda sitting up. “Why are you up? Lie down immediately. The doctor said you have to be on bed rest and shouldn’t move unnecessarily! You have no idea how scared I was when I got the call at work. Luckily, you’re fine.”

Winter seemed to be busy lately. The two of them hadn’t seen each other in a while. One was always occupied with work, while the other with academic studies. Their chats had become less frequent.

However, true friends didn’t need to be in contact all the time. They would be there when one needed them the most, like Miranda right now.

“Winter, how long have I been asleep?”

“A whole day and night. It’s the next morning.”

Miranda opened her mouth as if to say something, but she hesitated. Winter knew what she wanted to ask and said, “I saw three men keeping watch at your bedside the moment I got to the hospital. I was fine with Paul, but Sam and Hansel were squabbling like cats and dogs.

“I found them annoying, so I chased them all out! Oh, and two of your classmates were here too. One called Madison, and the other Seb. I noticed that they had waited for a long time, so I sent them home to rest before they collapsed out of exhaustion.”

Miranda asked, “Where’s my phone? Did my parents call? They would be so worried if I didn’t pick up…”

Winter chided her lightly, “You should worry about yourself first. Your ankle injury is quite serious. The doctor said you nearly hurt your bones, so you’ll need at least a week of rest. As for your parents, don’t worry. I took the call for you, and I didn’t mention your hospitalization.”

Miranda reached out and hugged her tightly. “Winter, you’re the best!”

She had thought of everything.

“Wait, Winter. Did you change your perfume?”

“Yes, is it nice?” Winter batted her eyes.

“When did you start liking subtle scents like this?”

יד

Winter had always preferred bold and passionate fragrances that resembled her personality. “Ah, someone gave it to me. I just sprayed it on before leaving the house. What do you think? Does the scent remind you of the misty feeling of rain or the elegance of flowers in spring?

“Well, I love whatever perfume you wear,” Miranda answered. Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

Winter said teasingly, “You’re such a sweet talker. Come here, let me give you a kiss!”

“No, no!” Miranda quickly covered her mouth, “Someone, help me!”

Winter pounced on Miranda, but she was careful not to jostle her injured ankle. Although her motions seemed exaggerated on the surface, she was actually being very gentle.

Suddenly, a man’s voice called out as the door to the ward opened from outside, “Winter, I bought the wash basin you wanted…”

He gulped in shock. After opening the door, Zach was stunned when he saw the scene before him.

Winter was leaning over Miranda, pouting her lips as if about to kiss her. Miranda was smiling and trying to fend her off with her hands.

From every angle, it looked like…

They were flirting with each other!
