When fate plays its hand

Chapter 1005

Paul’s eyes were like two liquid pools, dark and deep like an endless abyss. The desire that burned within them was like a lurking beast.

“Goodnight, Dr. Jefferson,” Miranda said.

Taking a deep breath, Paul’s hand lingered on her skin before finally withdrawing it with a gentle pinch on her slender waist.

“Goodnight, Mimi.” He opened the door to leave.

Suddenly, Miranda called

Paul turned to look at her. She retrieved something from the shoe cabinet and dropped it in his hand. He opened his palm to find a key lying quietly in it.

Miranda said, “I’m sorry for coming home late today and making you wait at the door. Next time, just open the door and wait for me inside.”

“Alright.”

Miranda said to wait for her inside her home….

Paul accepted the key. The smile on his face wouldn’t fade even after he had taken a shower. Lying in bed, he finally had the time to reply to his messages.

He sent a message to Silas, “Let’s pause and figure out what’s wrong since the data in the third phase of the experiment has issues.” noveldrama

Silas replied instantly, “Okay! Paul, is everything okay at home lately?”

Paul responded, “Nothing unusual.”

“Then why are you leaving so early every day? You seem to be replying slower to your messages too.”

Paul was about to type, “I’m spending time with my girlfriend.” However, he chuckled to himself before sending it out.

Just as he was about to hit the send button, Silas‘ message came in. “Hey, let me ask you something. What does Miranda’s post mean?”

Her post?

Paul deleted the message he was about to send and retyped, “What post?”

“Go check it yourself. She just posted it.”

Paul opened his social media account and refreshed his feed. Then, he saw her post, “p=a*sin(ne).”

It was a rose curve!

Since he had sent her the Cartesian heart–shaped curve, she replied with the polar coordinates rose

curve.

Paul liked her post immediately.

Silas‘ message popped up simultaneously. “What does it mean? Did you like it without knowing the meaning?”

Paul replied, “I know what it means.‘

Silas was puzzled. “What, are you two competing over coordinate functions now? Or… are you working on some interdisciplinary project?”

Paul typed quickly and sent a reply, “We’re together.”

The other side went silent.

Paul could already imagine Silas staring wide–eyed at his screen, muttering a string of curses. It would be a while before he remembered to reply to the message.

Sure enough, Silas replied, “What the hell! Are you serious?”

Paul smirked knowingly. It was just as he expected.

The next second, Silas followed up with another message. “You mean to tell me that you went to Miranda’s place this late to discuss an experiment? Are you a tyrant? Even if you don’t need sleep, a young woman like her needs to sleep! Is this even humane?”

Paul was surprised by his reply. He scrolled up the chat and realized he had made a mistake. In his haste, he had mistyped “We’re together” as “We’re talking.

Now that he found the reason, Paul carefully retyped his message in order to fix the misunderstanding. He double–checked it once more before sending it out. “We’re together now.”

Silas replied, “And then what? Do you mean to say that since you’re already at her place and she is already up, you two might as well finish the discussion before leaving?”

After that, he sent a barrage of memes and emoticons showing his shock and disbelief at Paul’s actions.

Paul sighed. Sometimes, he really felt like calling the police on Silas.

At that moment, another message came in. It was a meme saying, “You’ve been visited by the meme police.”

Paul was once again at a loss for words.

That night, a post appeared on a well–known forum online. The IP address of the poster showed that it was from Jandersville. The title of the post was, “How Do I Subtly Hint and Low–Key Brag to My Buddies That I’ve Got a Girlfriend?”

The top–voted answer on the forum was, “You’re too flamboyant!“
