“You ordered takeout?” Jean’s eyes lit up with surprise, a smile breaking across her face.

“Nope. Had my manager do a quick food run,” Easton said casually, pulling everything out and setting it neatly on the coffee table. “You’ve got to be starving,” he added, settling onto the couch. across from her. His eyes met hers with a smirk. “I was going to cook for you–make up for that disaster the other day. Total fail.” He chuckled, his grin growing. “But then I figured, after everything you’ve been through, you probably don’t want to risk eating my cooking. So I had my manager pick up a bunch of stuff kids your age actually eat.”

The warm glow from the ceiling lights washed over Easton’s face, softening his features. His smile was easy, quiet–but unmistakably charming.
